New Year, go to Yangon "Ngatatgyi Big Buddha Temple"
When traveling in Burma, you can’t miss temples. Today, I went to Nga Htat Gyi Big Buddha Temple, located opposite the Nga Htat Gyi Reclining Buddha Temple.
As I mentioned, I took a bus here. It was very cheap. When I got off the bus, I crossed the street to Nga Htat Gyi Big Buddha Temple.
I walked up the stairs and when I was out of breath, I reached the Big Buddha Temple’s chapel. It was a Burmese-style Buddha in royal regalia. It was a large white seated Buddha. The surrounding area had small, beautiful white marble Buddhas.
The temple’s male lay disciples were preparing for some kind of ceremony. I guessed that there was a ceremony going on at the temple. Many Buddhists, both Thai and foreign, came to make merit at this temple. You can see from the nameplates of donors, including Chinese and Thais.
Almost every temple in Burma has murals telling stories of Jataka tales, sutras, or the life of the Buddha. This temple has a statue of the Buddha when he descended from the Tavatimsa heaven after teaching his mother.
When it was time, we said goodbye to the Buddha and continued walking to the Nga Htat Gyi Reclining Buddha Temple.
