York is a beautiful walled city in northeast England, founded by the ancient Romans. York Minster with its massive 13th century Gothic cathedral features medieval stained glass and 2 bell towers. The city walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. Inside the gates of Monk Bar there is an exhibition tracing the life of the 15th century Plantagenet King Richard III. Transportation Tips- It only takes 23 minutes by train from Leeds Station. 1.5 hours by train from Manchester Victoria Station. When visiting York, the first stop after getting off the train is the British Railway Museum, located in YO26 4XJ. I walked around and took photos with my friends for a long time. There were all kinds of trains in there, both ancient and modern, which were very photogenic. The retro locomotives and the combination of green and red looked really nice in photos. There are also many rest areas where you can have afternoon tea, and many parents bring their children to visit. It is not far from Butcher Street, so you can walk there after visiting here and enjoy the scenery. #UK #York #Overseas Travel

It's no exaggeration to say that I went all the way to York to visit the railway museum in the country where railways originated. You can spend hours here learning about the history of railways and seeing vehicles from various eras and countries that don't disappoint! It's located right next to York Station, and it's free (you can make a donation at the entrance). What was interesting was the introduction to the school train that used to run in time for the new term of the boarding school in the past. The city of York dates back to the Roman Times and also played an important role during the era of Vikings when the city was renamed Jorvik and became a big trading centre for the Vikings. York continued to prosper in the Middle Ages and is the time when the world famous York Minster was constructed. York is easy to get to as it is on the East Coast Mainline, a trainline that runs from London to Edinburgh. It only takes 2 hours from London, less than an hour from Newcastle or Manchester and about 2 hours from Edinburgh too. The train station is a hugely imposing Victorian structure and is still a major hub in the UK’s train network today. Driving into the city is a little more difficult and I would highly recommend using a park and ride to get into the city. The multi storey car parks are narrow and the streets are often very congested. Some of my highlights to visit in York as a local: York Minster: York Minster is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe, and the stained-glass windows are absolutely stunning. Consider climbing the tower if you have energy for an amazing view of the city. The Shambles: This is the name of a medieval street and is like stepping back in time or being on a Harry Potter set. JORVIK Viking Centre: This interactive museum is built on the site of a Viking settlement and offers a different look into York's past, focused on the times the Vikings settled in the city.
