Our friendly horse guide captured many photos and videos for us, preserving these precious memories. Along the way, we stopped at a small station offering Tibetan costume dressing and archery experiences at minimal charges, adding an authentic cultural touch to our adventure. This area is also a haven for birdwatching; however, the red-crowned cranes we hoped to see only arrive in winter. Despite this, we were delighted by other birds and a beautiful white yak named "Bei Bei," whose snowy-white coat was truly captivating. This ride was more than just a physical activity—it was a soulful escape, immersing us in the pure serenity of this highland paradise.

Gorgeous Shangri-La - Napa Lake

Getting There - Arriving in Shangri-La, I decided to hitchhike to a local pasture land - Napa Sea, just to see how campable it is. It took about 10 minutes of walking along the road with my thumb up before a car pulled over and offered me a ride. As the driver and I started to talk more I learned that he is a local and lives right next to where I was heading. One thing that struck me was how kind he was. He kept pulling over at various picturesque stops so that I could really see, take pictures and generally enjoy the ride. Knowing that I wanted to camp out, he right away offered to drive me to an area of highland grasslands where he believed to be a great campsite. When we arrived, I was totally amazed - it overlooks the vast green meadows against the backdrop of mountains with a flat, well-drained area for pitching a tent. It’s everything that I was looking for. Things about Meili Snow Mountain in Shangri-La that tourists don't know...

I'm so lazy, but I finally decided to write a guide to Shangri-La! Keep these tips in mind! (After coming down from Meili, I heard from other tourists that a car went up the mountain in the early morning two days ago, rolled down the mountain, and everyone died 😭😭😭 So scary. I also went up the mountain at 3 am.) I was scared when I thought about it! - About Shangri-La: Drive to Shangri-La Ancient Town in the afternoon (visit the ancient town and eat delicious food). Drive to Feilai Temple at 3 am the next day to see Meili Snow Mountain. Go down the mountain at 2 pm (check in at Napa Sea and take photos). Return on the third day. 1⃣️ ⬆️Meili Snow Mountain It's actually quite dangerous to go up the mountain in the early morning. 150 km, 4 hours on the road. Most carpooling costs CNY 160 per person (9–11 people). We were lucky to get a ride with a guy driving an Audi, 4 seats. Since I just heard about the car rolling down the mountain, I still recommend that you go up the mountain during the day and stay at Feilai Temple for safety. If you really want to see the beautiful scenery, talk to the driver more when you take the car in the early morning to avoid the driver dozing off! 2⃣️ About the itinerary I drove from Lijiang to Shangri-La (the scenery along the way is beautiful).
