Nanxiang Brick Pagoda is also known as "Nanxiang Twin Pagodas" because it is a pair of "twin" ancient brick pagodas, and has now become a landmark attraction in Nanxiang Ancient Town. The two brick towers are not far from the ground. At first glance, they are nothing special, and the towers are not high, but these two small towers are the "old birthday stars" among the ancient towers in Shanghai, and they are treasures among the brick towers in my country. The pagoda is small and exquisite, made of blue bricks, with flame-shaped pot doors, simple mullioned windows, exquisite bucket arches, delicate railings and tall pagodas, showing the typical architectural style of the Tang and Song Dynasties. Nanxiang Five Dynasties Brick Pagoda was built from the Five Dynasties to the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty. It was originally built inside the gate of Baihe Nanxiang Temple. It is the old birthday star in the Shanghai Brick Pagoda. In the 31st year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1766), a fire destroyed the ancient temple. Only the brick pagoda after the disaster has become an ancient ground cultural relic in Nanxiang Ancient Town. There are ancient wells next to the towers, all of which are blocked by glass, and there are old temple ruins next to them.

Nanxiang Brick Tower - Shanghai 🇨🇳
Nanxiang Twin Towers (Brick Tower) is a place that you can’t miss if you are in the city of Shanghai.
Although they are not as big or impressive as other twin towers in China they are still beautiful and an archeological treasure for the country as they are very old.
It is so convenient that this site was walking distance from the metro station, and also it is close to other places of interest.
The recommended sightseeing time is half an hour or maximum one hour.
The structure is really well preserved and is a pleasure to see in person. After the visit, you can also enjoy some shopping or nice food as there are many restaurants and shops around the area.

Nanxiang Twin Towers
Nanxiang Twin Towers
The two brick towers were built in the Northern Song Dynasty, destroyed by fire in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and rebuilt on the original site in the 1980s. The Nanxiang Twin Towers are a famous landmark in Shanghai.
🛕The brick towers are modeled after wooden bracket structures, with a height of 11 meters, eight sides and seven floors, a stone base, and four doors and four straight windows on each side of the tower body. The railings, eaves, and brackets are all carved from blue bricks. The octagonal top is composed of a wheel, a pole, and a bead.
The Nanxiang Twin Towers, together with the surrounding old streets, ancient wells, and Buddhist temples, are witnesses to the history of Nanxiang Ancient Town.

A food-filled trip to Nanxiang Ancient Town!
Finally, I arrived at the intersection of Suzhou and Nanxiang Ancient Town, and I couldn't wait to find a restaurant to taste the mouth-watering Nanxiang Xiaolongbao. The Nanxiang Xiaolongbao here is really famous, with thin skin and fresh filling, full of soup, and when you bite it down, the taste is simply intoxicating!
Nanxiang Town is located in the southeast of Jiading District, Shanghai. As early as the Southern Dynasty in 505 AD, the Baihe Nanxiang Temple was built, named after the temple, and the town was established because of the temple. The ancient wells and pagodas here have been standing for a thousand years from the Five Dynasties to the present, which is simply a living history museum!
The most famous of Nanxiang Old Street is the Twin Towers. Although these two towers are not large, they are rare in Chinese brick towers. They are the best representatives of Nanxiang, witnessing the vicissitudes of this ancient town for a thousand years.
