Ban She Café is hidden in one of Shanghai’s old lane compounds off of Nanchang Road. It can be a bit hard to find, but here’s how to make your way into this hidden gem: Walking along Nanchang Road towards street number 254, you’ll see the mint green door of Ban She restaurant. Next to the restaurant is a small door leading into the lane complex. Pass through the door, look to the right at the first intersection, and you’ll see Ban She Café. The shop itself has a traditional Chinese vibe, with antique furniture, a courtyard, and lots of greenery. As you might expect from the surroundings, it’s pretty tiny overall – there are just a few tables spread out across the shop. Books line the walls as rays of sunshine pass through the large windows. With two floors in total, the first floor is a quiet space fit for reading and coffee sipping, while light meals and chatter are better suited for the second floor. The entrance of the store on Nanchang Road is very distinctive and the design is very avant-garde. There are not many seats inside and sometimes you need to wait. | ttax A good place for a drink. Nanchang Road is so "drinkable"! There are many new restaurants. Taxx is quite special. They make their own base liquor. They also have new research and development. You can't get it in many bars outside. That's why it's called the research institute. It feels like a winemaking laboratory. I really want to learn. Different liquors are released in each period. Recently, I saw a few on the menu. My favorites are Tom Yum Goong and Tan Dao. The former makes you wonder whether you are drinking soup or wine. Haha. It's super special. The latter has a more refreshing feeling overall. I will ask friends to try new ones later.

On the 1.6-kilometer Nanchang Road, it carries the memories of several generations. It's really hard not to love this B&B just by looking at the photos. The price is less than 800/night, and it can accommodate 4 people. It's very cost-effective~ but, I booked 3 nights in a row, but I couldn't hold on in the end, so I moved to a hotel on the last night! Now I am writing this review on the plane for your reference~ 🍂 First of all advantage 1⃣️The location is very good, just on Nanchang Road, very close to Anfu Road, Urumqi Middle Road, and Huaihai Middle Road, very suitable for city walks and city cycling! 2⃣️The downstairs is very convenient, with restaurants, flower shops, supermarkets and everything else, very lively 3⃣️The room is still very suitable for taking pictures after the renovation. When the weather is good, you can take pictures in front of the window in minutes, which completely satisfies the beautiful fantasy of the old house. 4⃣️Room 5 doesn’t look big in the photo, but it is actually quite spacious. In addition to the bed in the living room, there is also a small room with a double bed. It costs less than 800 yuan a night and can accommodate 4 people. The price-performance ratio is really very high. 🪑 Don’t rush to book after seeing this. In addition to the advantages, there are actually many minefields in this kind of old house B&B! 1⃣️ Poor sound insulation. Old houses are usually located along the street and poor sound insulation is a common problem. This one is in the downtown area. The location of the small room still has the sound of traffic at 2 a.m. If you are a light sleeper like me, be careful! This is also the biggest reason why I checked out early. 2⃣️The aesthetics of the B&B landlord's renovation are still good, but the quality of the furniture used is not high. Many cabinets are shaky and feel like shooting props😂 3⃣️The toilet in the bathroom is always leaking, the door handle is broken, and the small details are not ok... 4⃣️Give 75 points for overall hygiene! At least the bedding is clean and the room smells fresh, but the details are deducted, such as the mirrors and windows, which are very dusty. It would be more comfortable if they were cleaned. The above subjective shortcomings are just my personal experience. Everyone has different acceptance levels. It is not easy for a landlord to run a homestay. I still recommend that you choose to book according to your own preferences.
