If you ask me where the most memorable place in Vang Vieng is, I would answer without hesitation, There was a lot to say and a lot of trouble, but it was really beautiful!!⛰️ You can enjoy the beautiful 360-degree view of Vang Vieng. However, the path up and down is covered with mud, and it is steep and only one path, so it was a really difficult journey😭 As someone who has been there, here are some tips: 1. Please, please, please, please, please bring gloves!!!! If my friend hadn't brought these gloves from Korea to climb the viewpoint, wow... it's really scary just imagining it. Looking around, we were the only ones wearing gloves, but every foreigner I met looked at me with envious eyes, calling me a 'genius', and my friend was a lifesaver at that moment🥲 2. Make sure to wear sneakers!! I went there wearing sandals and slippers.. and got bitten badly.. If you have sneakers to throw away, I highly recommend them. 3. Even if you spray mosquito repellent, you'll still get bitten a lot... Mosquito food.. It's so hard that I don't even have the strength to wave my hands.. (Just eat your fill of mosquitoes!!!!!) Even if you take them off when you go up, wearing thin long pants & long-sleeved outerwear is the best way to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes. 4. I recommend clothes that you can throw away. When you come down, you almost have to slide(?), so your whole body gets covered in mud.. and when you get that mud on, it doesn't dry well. ㅠㅠ The white T-shirt in the picture doesn't dry well, and the pants are ripped at the bottom, so I was like, "Bye, bye" 😂 (They're my favorite pants.. but they're dirty) But the view I saw when I got to the top, the air, made me forget all about the hardships. But I think this once in a lifetime is enough.. If anyone comes to Vang Vieng and doesn't come here, it's a mistake! Nam Sai Cliff Climbing is another landmark that you shouldn't miss. For this trip, we chose a very convenient way to travel by asking the hotel to contact a songthaew for us, which was great. The driver took us to the place and even waited to pick us up. We didn't have to worry about the transportation at all. Transportation & Atmosphere Along the Way: I must say that the atmosphere along the way by songthaew was very good! Both sides of the road were full of natural scenery and the air was very fresh. It was an impressive start to the trip even before reaching the destination. Tips & Experiences: I would recommend going early in the morning. It's the best! We arrived at around 7 am. There weren't many people, so we could walk up comfortably without having to squeeze in with anyone. Most importantly, the photos came out very beautiful because there were no people in the frame. We spent time at the top and walked down at around 9 am. When we walked down, there were a lot of people walking up. If we had gone later, There might be a lot of queueing or jostling. It’s a laid-back, hippie-style town with plenty of activities — you can even take a hot air balloon ride. There are many hiking trails and around 7–9 lagoons in the area. I visited Lagoons 1, 2, 3, and 4 where you can swim or just relax and sunbathe. I rented a motorbike from my hostel for 180,000 kip/day, while a friend rented one from outside for 170,000 kip. Lagoons: Lagoon 1: The most crowded one, especially with Korean tourists — likely due to a 2014 Korean travel show that featured it along with the nearby Sakura Bar. Mostly middle-aged tour groups. There's also a cave above the lagoon you can explore (around 200m in). Lagoon 2: Loses sunlight after 11:20 AM, so plan your visit earlier if you want to swim. Lagoon 3: Sun disappears around 11:30 AM. It has a younger, livelier crowd. There’s a cave here too — although the entrance looks narrow, it’s easy to navigate inside. Lagoon 4: A 30-minute motorbike ride away. Quiet, sunny all day, and not crowded. Near here is the Loup Cave, worth visiting if you have extra time. Tham Nam (Water Cave): One of the most unique cave experiences I had. You float inside the cave on a tube for around 300 meters. Near the end, the water actually starts to feel warmer. Viewpoints: Vang Vieng is full of scenic viewpoints. I climbed two mountains and visited three viewpoints in total, but there are 4–5 options around the town. Nam Xay Viewpoint: The most famous one. Many people go here to take photos with motorbikes at the top — sometimes you may have to wait in line for a picture. Phapoungkham Cave & Viewpoint: There are two viewpoints and one cave here. Be sure to bring a flashlight for any cave visits. Elevate 9: Perfect for watching sunset and hot air balloons. Surprisingly affordable despite its great view. Bars & Nightlife: Sakura Bar: The biggest and most popular — especially with Korean tourists. Irish Bar and Full Moon Bar are also lively spots worth checking out. Transportation: I traveled from Vang Vieng to Vientiane in 1.5 hours by minivan. The train takes even less — around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Unlike the rough roads in northern Laos, this route is a proper highway, so vehicles move fast. The minivan picked me up directly from my hostel and cost 140,000 kip.

Vang Vieng is a small town surrounded by nature. Since the tourist spots are a little outside the city, most people join tours or rent mopeds. However, the roads are surprisingly busy and the suburbs are bumpy😨 I was very worried about whether to rent a moped and risk death, or to walk around and risk passing out...🤔 While walking around the city, I found a rental bicycle! I could choose between a mountain bike or a mamachari, but I chose the mamachari because I was used to riding it. It was ₭80,000 for a day. (I was told the return time was 6pm, but I hesitated and returned it at 7pm, and there was no additional charge.) I also wanted to use the bike the next day, so I paid an additional ₭80,000 and rented it until the next day. The staff at this shop spoke English, so communication was smooth. 📍Location: Tee motorbike forent ຮ້ານເຊົ່າລົດຈັກ-ລົດຖີບທ້າວຕີ ⭐️Blue Lagoon 1 Leaving the city around 10am🚲💨 On the way, I was impressed by the nature, taking pictures of animals and scenery, and arrived around 11:30am. There were quite a lot of people and the water wasn't as clean as I thought it would be. I just took pictures and finished. ⭐️Tham Phu Kham Cave I walked past people swimming and headed to the Tham Phu Kham Cave in the back. The road was too rough😱 With the help of a man walking in front of me, I managed to reach the place where I could see the Buddha statue, but I was sweating and scared so I couldn't go any further. ⭐️Nam Xay Viewpoint This is a viewpoint right next to Blue Lagoon 1, but I didn't go there that day (I got lost) and came back by bicycle the next morning. The climb up and down here was also too hard and scary, but the view was amazing! It rained the night before, so the path up was muddy and slippery and really dangerous😨 I gave up on keeping my jeans and sneakers clean and went down the mountain. After this, I had them washed at a dry cleaner in town. If you rent a bicycle in the morning, you can easily get around the main tourist spots in the suburbs!
