From Nagoya Station, rent a car and head to Red Hill Hisaya Forest in Takanoo, Tsu City. This expansive 130,000㎡ area features a "Flower Area" with attractions like a rose garden and water lily pond, as well as a "Forest Area" with natural landscapes. The Plum Garden boasts 45 plum trees, including weeping and upright varieties. Some trees exceed 3 meters in height, with the most impressive weeping plum trees reaching over 5 meters, such as the "Shoryu" tree, known for its thick trunk and cascading blossoms. The Sakura Plaza also had early-blooming cherry blossoms, allowing visitors to enjoy both plum and cherry blossoms. Next, drive to Suzuka Forest Garden, home to approximately 200 weeping plum trees, which are considered masterpieces of Japanese horticulture. Unlike Red Hill Hisaya Forest, this garden focuses solely on plum trees and serves as a research and cultivation farm to preserve and promote weeping plum tree training techniques. Note that photography near the main shrine is prohibited, though distant shots are allowed. Security staff will remind visitors to follow the rules. Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. Hotel Econo Tsu Ekimae is located in front of Tsu Station. I stayed there the other day. It's in an excellent location, just a short walk from Tsu Station. There are many izakayas (Japanese pubs) near the station, so I was happy to have no trouble finding dinner. The price was very reasonable, and the room was clean and comfortable. A refrigerator and kettle were provided, which was very convenient. There was also a washing machine and dryer on site. The bathroom and toilet had unit bidets. The shampoo and conditioner provided are basic, so if you're concerned about this, it's best to bring your own. The room was neither too spacious nor too small, so we had a comfortable stay. We shared a room with two people, so the price was ¥3,150 per person, including breakfast. Breakfast was both Japanese and Western, and while the selection wasn't extensive, it was delicious. The Manto Mitama Festival is a summer festival where approximately 6,000 paper and paper lanterns are hoisted to console the spirits of the war dead. 🏮 We ask each and every deity to offer their "proof" to the great god of national defense, who sacrificed his life as a shield to protect his family, hometown, and country during times of national crisis. 🤲 During the festival, many food trucks, festivals, and night bubble shows are held, attracting many visitors. 🫧 Of all the Mitama festivals across the country, the wall of lanterns at Mie's Gokoku Shrine is the most impressive. 🏮🏮🏮 [Mie Prefecture Manto Mitama Festival] ⚫︎Dates: August 13-15, 2025 ⚫︎Location: Mie Prefecture Gokoku Shrine, 387 Hiroaki-cho, Tsu City, Mie Prefecture 514-0006 ⚫︎Access: By Car🚗◎By Expressway: Ise Expressway, approximately 15 minutes from Tsu Interchange. ◎By Route 23: Turn west at the "Sakaemachi Ni" intersection and turn 5 minutes. Public Transportation🚃◎By JR Central or Kintetsu: Approximately 5 minutes walk from the west exit of Tsu Station. There is a torii gate on the south side of the temple grounds. ◎By Mie Kotsu: Approximately 5 minutes walk from the west exit of Tsu Station or approximately 8 minutes walk from the east exit of Tsu Station.⚫︎Parking: Located within the temple grounds, but closed during the festival.
