Blue Moon Valley (Figures 4, 10, 11) The lake is like a sapphire inlaid between the snow-capped mountains and forests. It has an unreal beauty. The light before 2 pm is the best. 4. Yunshanping (Figures 5, 12, 13) It is recommended to walk along the wooden plank road. The forest meadows and herds of cattle and sheep under the snow-capped mountains make you feel like you have traveled to Northern Europe. 5. Black Dragon Pool Park (Figure 6) There is no entrance fee if you enter before 7:30 in the morning. The Suocui Bridge near the West/South Gate is a great place to take photos of the sunrise over Jinshan Mountain. You can also take photos of Heilongtan, Deyue Tower and Yulong Snow Mountain in the same frame. 6. Lion Mountain Scenic Area (Figure 7) The Lion Mountain Observation Deck offers a panoramic view of the ancient city of Lijiang. Tickets are 35 yuan per person. Climbing up to the Wangu Tower will give you a wider view. 7. Baisha Ancient Town (Figure 14) is an original Naxi village at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain. The architecture here has ethnic characteristics and you can also take close-up photos of the snow-capped mountains. 8. Lijiang Ancient Town (Figure 15) There are many scenic spots in the ancient city, including Sifang Street, the big waterwheel, the Sakura Restaurant and the Paper Umbrella Alley, which are suitable for strolling slowly until the evening.

Head over the Mufu Palace for the best view of Lijiang Old Town! There are plenty of paid viewpoints in the old town, most of which need to be paid for with an entrance ticket or by purchasing food. Because of the TV series "Legend of Mu's Residence", we had to visit Mu's Residence during our trip to Lijiang. After walking through the streets and alleys of the ancient city, we arrived at the outer area of Mu's Residence. To enter Mu's Residence, you need to pass through three gates: "Guanmenkou", "Tianyu Liufang", and "Zhongyi" stone archway. It is said that the words "Zhongyi" were bestowed by the emperor during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. Opposite the archway is a wall with the words "Gongshi Zhi Li, Niyu Wangzhe" written by Xu Xiake. Passing through the "Zhongyi" stone archway, you will reach the main entrance of Mu's Residence. From here, you officially enter Mu's Residence. Remember, there are free guided tours in Mu's Residence, which last about 1 hour. Mu is the family name of the first and suceeding generations of the leaders who governed the ethnic minority of the Naxi. The place provides a free guided tour with a clear and well thought-out explanation from a Naxi local about the history of government administration from its early days. Here, visitors will learn about the wisdom of the first Naxi leaders in ensuring survival, harmony, protection and continuity in a land and time when the number of its ethnic population was small and conflicts could trigger feudal wars and the risk of annihilation. Acceptance of different cultures and religions also improved their chances of ethnic survival and progress. I am awed at their intelligence and wisdom.
