The majestic Mt. Matutum! Mt. Matutum is situated at Tupi, South Cotabato, with a height of 2,286 masl. I personally rate the trail with a difficulty of 7/9. The day hike was divided into two phases, with the first phase featuring gradual slopes amidst small vegetable farms and medium density forets. We started the trek at 12:00 am and after about 4 hours of hike, we arrived at the campsite. Since this was a dayhike, we left our packs and only brought sufficient sustenance for the assault to the summit. The hike to the summit was grueling, with steep elevation gains and monkey trails that will test your physical fitness. The ascent took us almost 4 hours, and ETA was 7:50 am. There are 3 peaks in Mt. Matutum, with the first one offering the lowest visibility of the surrounding area. The second and third peaks offer a better view with a sea of clouds if the weather permits. The descent to the camp site was equally challenging, but we were greeted upon arrival with the smell of spicy Chicken Tinola amongst other equally sumptous fares, which warmed our cold and tired bodies. After a short nap, we descended the camp site at about 2:00pm. We ended the hike with a dip at a local cold spring pool to relax our aching muscles and enjoyed ice-cold beer! #dayhike #diehike #climb #mountaineering

General Santos, formerly known as Dadiangas, is a coastal highly urbanized city in the SOCCSKSARGEN region. Although administratively independent due to its distinction as highly urbanized city, General Santos is commonly grouped with the province of South Cotabato. The South Cotabato province has a big celebration every year known as T’nalak Festival. Every July, the festival is a week-long celebration held in Koronadal City, the capital of South Cotabato. The festival gets its name from “t’nalak,” a colorful abaca cloth, created and woven by the women of the T’boli tribe of South Cotabato. The design of the cloth is unique and “dreamed up” by the person who creates it. That’s why the province is known as “The Land of the Dreamweavers.” The T’nalak fabric serves as the festival icon because it symbolizes the blending of the culture, strength, and unity of the various ethnic groups living in the province. The T’nalak Festival also commemorates the works of Lang Dulay, a T’boli princess from Lake Sebu who was the best weaver of her time. She was awarded the “Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan” or the “National Living Treasure Award” in 1998.
