Mount Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) has an important role in the history of conservation in Indonesia. It was established as a national park in 1980. With an area of 22,851.03 hectares, the National Park is covered by mountainous tropical rainforest, only 2 hours (100 km) from Jakarta. In this place you can see the beautiful forest, besides that you can also hike the mountains and camp at the camp area (surya kencana). Gunung Gede is a mountain in West Java that has a very high attraction for the hikers on the island of Java. Mount Gede has three official gates, namely National Gede-Pangrango Park (Cibodas) Halimun-Gede National Park (Sukabumi), & Gunung Putri (Cipanas). This time I will review through Cibodas. Normally trip to cibodas approximately 3 hours from Jakarta if you were not got the traffic jammed. If you are from Jakarta city, you can use public transportation to Bogor city (bus). From Bogor, you can continue the journey to Cianjur using a small vehicle, a colt or angkot, until Cibodas intersection. From there you can continue using the angkot to the gate or basecamp or PHPA Cibodas office to take care of the permits. Please note, if you want to hike Mount Gede you have to take care of the permit 3 days earlier & if you have never climbed before, it is advisable to use the services of a guide or porter to anticipate the worst, although actually the signs on this route is quite clear. Gunung Gede has beautiful scenery at its peak, duration for beginners approximately 10 hours. So prepare yourself as well as you can to enjoy the hike. A must visited campsite in Mount Gede is Surya Kencana. Needs 6-8 hours from mountain feet to Surya Kencana. This campsite is surrounded by Edelweiss flower (anaphalis javanica). Hikers are prohibited to pick this flower because it's conserved and only found above 2000 metre height. Only need 30 minute - 1 hour to see sunrise on the mountain peak from surya kencana. Cibereum hotspring is an additional gift for hikers when they go down from mountain and want to relax for a while.
