Córdoba, Spain - Roman Catholic church in Islamic mosque style
#church #100 ways to travel
Have you ever seen a mosque-style church? Located in Cordoba, southern Spain, there is such a unique #mosquemainchurch.
Southern Spain was once ruled by the Moors, who also brought Islamic architectural styles. The Cordoba Mosque was originally built by Islamic forces, and was gradually converted into a Roman Catholic church after it was recovered by Spain. However, it retained the original domes, arches, and red and white Islamic architecture, perfectly blending the essence of the two cultures. Characteristic.
The main church of Cordoba Mosque is located in the old city. It can be easily reached by taking a bus from Cordoba Station, or you can walk through the atrium green park and the old city wall, which takes about 15-20 minutes. The outer garden is full of citrus trees, with golden citrus trees growing there. It is really beautiful to take photos with the clock tower wall as the background.
You need to buy a ticket to visit the main church of the mosque. The entrance to the church is €11, the tower is €2, and the night guided tour is €18. According to online information, if you want to visit for free, you can visit the free area between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning.
The streets in the old town of Cordoba are also quite unique. Every household will put potted flowers on the window sill to compete with each other to see who has the most beautiful display. There are also many beautiful Islamic-style gardens to visit, and it is worth arranging a day trip.

The Most Unique Church in Spain—Córdoba Cathedral.
Did you know that there is a church in Spain with distinct mosque features? During this trip to Europe, I visited many different churches. Although they were beautiful, most of them looked quite similar, which led to a bit of aesthetic fatigue 🫠. However, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba (Catedral de Córdoba) in the Andalusia region of southern Spain is truly unique! It was a refreshing sight 🤍.
This church was originally built as a mosque by Muslims in 785 AD and was later converted into a church in the 16th century after the Christian conquest. It combines Islamic and Christian architectural styles, especially its famous red and white arches and the magnificent Baroque-style altar.
As soon as we walked in, we saw many red and white arches. Initially, I thought there were only a few, but it turns out the entire church is filled with arches. Under the sunlight, the colors of the arches become even more striking. It's perfect for photography 🤍. The church also houses many artworks and grand altars, making it well worth a visit!
We visited twenty different churches, and we unanimously agreed that this is one of the must-visit churches! It retains the features of a mosque while incorporating Christian elements. You won't feel any sense of discord; it's truly magical! If you visit Spain, I highly recommend heading to the south to see this culturally blended church ⛪️🕌.

The Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba (Spanish: Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba), officially known by its ecclesiastical name, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (Spanish: Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Córdoba dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and located in the Spanish region of Andalusia.. Due to its status as a former Islamic mosque, it is also known as the Mezquita and as the Great Mosque of Córdoba (Spanish: Mezquita de Córdoba
The mosque structure is regarded as an important monument in the history of Islamic architecture and is considered by many scholars to have been highly influential on the subsequent "Moorish" architecture of the western Mediterranean regions of the Muslim world. It is also one of Spain's major hostoric monuments and tourist attractions, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984.
The mosque cathedral of Cordoba is a unique building which has been a place of worship for the world’s two major faiths.
Built over 1200 years ago in a moorish style during the Islamic emirate that once covered southern Spain, it was converted to Christianity around 500 years later following the reconquista.
Today the building is testament to the Islamic architecture that was highly influential within Andalusia as well as an important place of worship for the city’s Catholics.

Come to Cordoba and admire the beauty of Cordoba!
I especially love this small town full of flowers, which is also one of the typical cities of cultural fusion. You can tell from its most famous Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, which has engulfed a large cathedral.
🚗 About Transportation
Cordoba is not big, and all attractions are basically within walking distance.
Attraction Recommendations
📍Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba: The famous Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba. Before coming here, I wondered how impressive a cathedral could be, but after visiting, I feel it is definitely one of the most unique and worthwhile cathedrals to visit in Europe. It was originally the second-largest mosque in the world, later transformed into a cathedral. They didn't want to demolish the mosque, so they built the cathedral inside it. It's hard to imagine the wonder of this building without seeing it with your own eyes. The 860 columns that remain also make one curious about the past splendor of the mosque.
📍Calleja de las Flores: The famous Flower Alley, where many flower pots hang on the walls of the alley, but actually, the whole town is full of flowers, not just here.
📍Roman Bridge of Córdoba: South of the Mosque-Cathedral is the famous Roman Bridge, with 16 arches, very spectacular.
📍Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs: The castle of Cordoba.
📍Viana Palace: Cordoba is famous for its courtyards, and this is one of the most worth visiting.

Entered "Game of Thrones" 🇪🇸 Cordoba Mosque-Cathedral
🇪🇸Cordoba, standing alongside Granada and Seville, is one of the three shining pearls and world-renowned tourist destinations in the Andalusia region of southern Spain.
🎈Cordoba's reputation has spread far and wide, largely due to the preservation of the Great Mosque, a world cultural heritage site.
📣 The Great Mosque was first built in 786 and, through continuous expansion under Moorish rulers, became the most famous of over 300 mosques in Cordoba.
🚩 After 1236, it took 260 years of construction to transform it into a cathedral. The Moorish style of Arabia and the Gothic and Renaissance styles of Spain blend together, creating the architectural masterpiece of Cordoba.
💎 The Great Mosque of Cordoba, located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, covers an area of over 23,000 square meters with a building area of over 4,000 square meters. It is magnificent and grand.
💗In the early 16th century renovation project, one-third of the stone pillars and arches in the main hall were demolished, and the height of the arches was raised. A Renaissance-style cathedral was built in the center of the mosque (Figure 3 shows the panoramic view of the Grand Mosque, and the dark green spire is the arch of the cathedral).
👣 Strolling among them, towering domes, intricate ceilings, colorful murals, elegant platforms and chairs, sturdy staffs and swords, delicate sculptures... magnificent and luxurious, as if entering the world of the American drama "Game of Thrones" .

Crdoba Mosque
If the Siena Cathedral in Italy is one of the most special churches I have ever seen, then the Grand Mosque of Cordoba that I came today is also the most special mosque I have ever seen. A
1984 The Cordoba Mosque was selected as a World Heritage Site. It is the pilgrimage site after Mecca and Jerusalem. It has been converted back and forth between the Catholic Church and the mosque, so it has a unique culture. After the integration, the 18 rows of pillars are alternately lined by red bricks and dolomites. It is very stunning
In such a long history, the great mosque is more magnificent and the decoration is more refined; but the most special It is still the Grand Mosque of Cordoba, a building that combines Islamic mosques and Christian churches. In this building, there are places where Islam believers worship God, and the middle part is where Christian believers pray for God. In addition to the separate time periods of worship, they are co-existing in a building. The mosque that is so mixed is rare in the world and can be said to be the most unique existence in the world.
NianXiao Yi.
Life is full of contradictions and conflicts, and what we can do is to find harmony and coexistence.
Crdoba Mosque - a building where Islam and Christian culture coexist, a mixture of contradictions and conflicts.
The church was renamed the mosque because it was not called a church. It was because of its mixed ethnic Islamic style.
is a rare building in the world where Catholicism and Islam are mixed, and it breaks the mindset of Catholicism and Islam that are inherent in people's minds.
Although the Great Mosque has been going through a thousand years, the stone pillar walls have been mottled, but the tall Golden Gate is still golden.
The mosque is divided into two parts: the courtyard and the temple: the outer courtyard is free to visit, and the entrance to the monastery requires the purchase of tickets.

Crdoba is the capital of the province of Crdoba, Spain, with Granada and Seville, and is the three pearls of the southern Andalusian region. Crdoba was once one of the main cities of Islam. In the old town of Crdoba, there are many historic sites. The most famous is the Grand Mosque of Cordoba. When Crdoba was once governed by Muslims, the former Catholic Church was transformed into a mosque, and when the Christians regained their lost ground, the mosque was converted into a Catholic church. So this is a Catholic church MIX mosque. The overall style of the interior reveals the correct character of the mosque, and the partial details reveal the spirit of God. In front of the mosque is a large block of orange gardens. The Spanish have a special preference for orange trees. The ground is full of ripe oranges.
