…Navigator is doing harm..in Montserrat😰
Arrived at #Barcelona #Spain airport around 1pm. Passed through immigration easily. The immigration officer was a handsome young man, dark-skinned, as handsome as rumored, with a good figure and not too old, able to be a movie star at any counter. And the female officers who took care of the orderliness around there were all beautiful and sharp-featured, making tourists like me and many others excited (guessing) that we would meet handsome young men and women all over the country (but what we met all over Spain...wasn't like that. Here, the most handsome and beautiful 😂 They probably select their immigration officers based on looks 😄)
Go straight to the Sixt car rental counter. There were only 4-5 customers, no need to wait at all. The staff informed me that the small Smart for 2 car I rented was not finished cleaning yet. I had to wait for about half an hour. At first, I agreed to wait. He offered to buy additional insurance with him. I didn't buy it before because I intended to buy it here, so I agreed. In case the car had a little scratch, I wouldn't have to argue and get annoyed. Negotiate the insurance price. I got a big discount (I'll tell you). While he was filling in the information, I talked. While waiting, he offered to change cars. I don't have to wait and will upgrade for me. Plus free navigators in the car. He showed me pictures of many cars to choose from. I couldn't decide, so I told him to choose for me. Let's choose the one that suits me. He said that I was traveling alone and needed a small car to travel to many cities for more than 2 weeks. There must be no limit on the distance traveled per day and no limit on the total distance traveled. He said that changing the car would not change the conditions that were previously agreed upon, so don't worry. He chose an Audi Q2. It didn't look big in the picture, so I agreed.
When I got down to pick up the car...OMG, the car was bigger than I thought. I asked the delivery guy downstairs if I could change it because the car was too big. He asked where you were going to drive and said that small cars are not suitable for long distances. This car is the most suitable for me. Okay, I don't want anyone to have a hard time.
He taught me how to use the Navigator. I didn't understand it clearly. He told me to set the route to the accommodation in #montserrat first. I thought I would study it myself later at the accommodation (I was wrong😒). After getting used to the car for a while, I drove out of the parking building and got on the expressway. It was very convenient. It was comfortable to drive and get used to the car and the road. And the habits of fellow road users first
From the airport to Montserrat, look at Google, the distance is 58 km, it takes 49 minutes, the expressway road is very good, there are quite a lot of cars. When it's close, it turns off the expressway. This time it's a narrow road like the entrance to the village, going up the hill a little bit, and then you reach the accommodation.
The accommodation is a youth center, there is a large swimming pool, there is a spacious parking lot, it's a large building, there is a restaurant, there are places to do activities. It seems that most of the customers are students, athletes and families. There are very few tourists like me.
I asked the receptionist if I would like to go to Montserrat tomorrow. She suggested that I should go now because there will be fewer people, no need to queue, it's only about 5 km away. She suggested to park the car and take the tram up to the top of the mountain. If you go now, you should make it in time. So I followed her suggestion.
The way to Montserrat from the accommodation, you have to drive through the mountain. The road is a narrow road, winding along the side of the mountain, winding back and forth. You have to drive slowly and be very careful because there will be many sharp curves. One side is a mountain, the other side is a view of the plain below. The trees are unfamiliar, it looks comfortable and beautiful. When you break through the mountain, you will reach the city. It's a small city. It is a tram stop, the second station before going up to the top of the mountain. Actually, you can drive up to the top of the mountain, but they (various websites) recommend that there is limited parking on the top of the mountain and you have to pay a high parking fee. There may not be any parking, so it is better not to risk it.
I read the advice that you have to park your car in the parking building (free) and then buy a round-trip ticket. There was no one at the station. I knocked on the window to buy a ticket and waited at the station. Not long after, the tram came. The view on both sides of the way up is very beautiful. It is a mountain with strange shapes, lumps like durian. It is quite far. It should take about half an hour to reach the last station on the top of the mountain.
On the top of the mountain is a small town with a church, a hotel, restaurants, and shops. It is a town for tourists only. Walk to see the church and see the surrounding town. Some tourists also climb the mountain along the path that they have provided. Today, I have been traveling all day, so I think I will not be able to do it. I am afraid that I will not make it back in time for the last tram, so I will not go up.
When I got off the car, I turned on the navigator back to the accommodation. I did not know how to set it up. It did not look like what they taught. I saw someone come to the car. He was about to drive away, so I went to ask for help. He taught me how to set up the navigator. He could speak a little English, but he was kind enough to set it up for me. After setting, he drove away. I followed him. When we reached the intersection, he drove away and waited. I guess he should go the same way as me. I'm not sure why he waited, but unfortunately he went to the right. But the navigator in the car told me to turn left. I felt sorry and didn't want him to worry and waste my time anymore. So I turned in the opposite direction. Let's learn how to set it myself again. The one he set was to drive in a circle back to the original place. I tried setting it again and drove back to the original place. So I used Google Maps on my phone to navigate back to the hotel. My phone's battery was almost dead because it was cold. I took a lot of photos and videos. I didn't prepare a charger or a backup battery because I thought that driving would be fine. It was scary to think like this. If the battery ran out, what would I do? How would I get back to the hotel? I couldn't remember the way at all. 😱😰😓 When I got back to the hotel, it was almost 9 pm. The sky was starting to get dark. I was nervous the whole way back because I was driving on a narrow mountain road in the forest. There were no lights. There were no cars following or oncoming. Sigh... There was another exciting thing to do today. I learned another life lesson: don't be careless. Wherever you go, always have a backup battery for your phone. #Europe #Spain
