Must-visit attraction in Mokpo: Gatbawi Rock
Gatbawi Rock, located along the coast of Yonghae-dong in Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, was designated as a Natural Monument on April 27, 2009. Situated at the estuary of the Yeongsan River where seawater and freshwater meet, this rock formation was created through weathering and marine erosion. Its unique shape resembles a person wearing a traditional Korean hat, known as a 'gat,' hence the name 'Gatbawi.'
Seeing it in person, the rock truly looks like it's wearing a hat, which is quite fascinating. Additionally, there is a well-maintained deck path leading to Gatbawi, making it an easy and pleasant walk.
Gatbawi consists of two rocks forming a pair, and there are several legends associated with them. Exploring these stories while admiring the rock is highly recommended!
