A Day in Mojiko

Located at the northern tip of Kyushu, Mojiko was an important trading port in the early days. As a result, the retro area is home to many Western-style commercial buildings from the early 20th century. Even the Mojiko Station hall is decorated in a quaint and beautiful style. The Mojiko Retro Area, which is right outside JR Mojiko Station, is a pleasant seaside area. Walking here feels like stepping into a different time and space. Key attractions include the Blue Wing pedestrian bridge that opens and closes at regular intervals, the Railway Museum, the Old Mitsui Club, the Former Moji Customs Building, and the Mojiko Observation Deck. The Mojiko Observation Deck ticket costs 300 yen. Although the view from the deck is not as dazzling as that of a bustling metropolis, the ticket is cheap, and you can still enjoy a cup of coffee up there. If it's mealtime, you must try the baked curry. The charred cheese paired with the rich curry is especially delicious. It was so good that I even bought a curry pack to take home. After visiting the retro area, a half-hour walk will take you to the Kanmon Bridge pedestrian underpass. The Kanmon Strait is the sea between Kyushu and Honshu. After crossing it, you will reach Shimonoseki in Honshu. Therefore, a 15-minute walk through the Kanmon Bridge pedestrian underpass allows you to experience the fun of traveling from Kyushu to Honshu. You'll get there in 45 seconds by high-speed elevator. You can see Moji Port, Iwaryu Jima, Dannoura in Shimonoseki, and Kanmon Bridge. The ships that come and go are going back and forth without losing to the flow of the Kanmon Bridge. Nice and relaxing place. This place is wonderful. You can start taking pictures right from the station sign as soon as you step off the train at Mojiko Station. Additionally, the town features the Mojiko Seaside Train, which is decorated with underwater sea creatures. When the train passes through tunnels, the lighting effects are mesmerizing, making it an exciting experience for families with children as well as adults.

When you visit Mojiko, there are many different ways to experience. Some goes for the fresh seafood especially the puffer fish at Karato. But You can choose to explore the historic western building (shown in the picture). Every building has the story to tell and they are well maintained and you will be “rewarded “ on the important history background of the building. #mojiko

During the Dragon Boat Festival, I enjoyed a trip to Kyushu, Japan, soaked in the mountain hot springs, and then visited the seaside Moji Port to experience the charm of a blend of Eastern and Western cultures.😼😼😼 ❤❤❤My favorite part is the preservation of many European-style buildings here. It's no wonder it was one of the famous ports that connected with Western culture in the past. And there are many Japanese elements when you least expect them. The combination of East and West is very perfect.😍😍😍 I especially like to check in at its landmark train station, where the hustle and bustle of the day and the tranquility of the night complement each other. This route is actually quite interesting. There are many places to visit. You can organize a 1-day trip not far from Hakata. For the trip, we took the Sonic train from Hakata to Kokura Station and then transferred to the JR Kagoshima to Mojiko Station, which took about 1 hour. (Even though there is a JR Northern Kyushu Area Pass, you cannot take the Shinkansen from Hakata Station to Mojiko.) The specialty of this city is that in the past it was a trading point with other countries. Mojiko Port is a large international shipping port in Kyushu. As for Mojiko Station, it was inspired by the train station in Italy, making the atmosphere look retro. Whether it's the train station, the buildings, or the train station itself, it's very old. It is also the first station building of the Kagoshima Line. For those who like taking pictures, this is very chill. There are many buildings with a vintage feel. It looks like they are in Europe, such as the former Osaka Shosen Building, which is a shipping company built in 1917. It is a beautiful octagonal building.
