The General's Mansion is located on the banks of the Meilun River in Hualien. It was established in 1936 and is an official residence built of cypress wood, with a wall and a separate garden. This is the dormitory of the military commander of the Hualien area, Chief Nakamura. The surrounding Japanese-style dormitories are the residences of officers of all ranks. The uniform buildings form a complete small residential area with a history of more than 90 years. It is said that the residents nearby at that time did not know the identity of Chief Nakamura, but only knew that a high-ranking general lived here, so it was called the General's Mansion.

Hualien's New Japanese Attraction: Little Kyoto [The General's Mansion]
The General's Mansion is located next to the riverside walkway by the Meilun River. It is a military officer's residence from the Japanese colonial period that has been renovated and revitalized for use. The restoration took several years, and it officially began operations in April 2024. The park retains a Japanese ambiance, with each cypress wood building being comfortably arranged and filled with the fragrance of wood. It has now earned the nickname 'Little Kyoto of Hualien.' Currently, the entrance is free, and visitors can make reservations via LINE. It is a suitable spot for travelers in Hualien to take a leisurely stroll.

Hualien General Mansion 1936 was an officer dormitory during the Japanese occupation.
After renovation, it was named Hualien General Mansion.
An old house full of Japanese architectural style.
Walking in it feels like traveling back to the Japanese occupation era.
It turns out that one of the buildings is actually a historical monument. The other seven buildings are also historical buildings with a long history!
There are old trees, ponds, and low vegetation in the park.
The landscaping is exquisite, and the trails are smooth and easy to walk.
You can also push a baby stroller, which is suitable for taking children out for a walk.
🥐There are 16 restaurants and gift shops in the General's Mansion.
The most talked-about one is "OOA". Chen Yaoxun was invited to use taro from Hualien to make "Taro Egg Yolk Crisp" and "Salted Egg Yolk Taro Croissant".
🍛This time we went to eat "Home Curry".
There are two kinds of dipping sauces for fried chicken curry. One is a slightly spicy red curry, and the other is a green curry, which goes well with rice!
Even the after-meal dessert - freshly baked egg cake - is very delicious!

Holiday, Take a Trip to 1936 for a Cup of Japanese Afternoon Tea
Near our guesthouse, you can walk through the historical Japanese streets of 1936 Shogunate 🏮🏮 All the historical relics of that era are preserved✨
You might have been to Japan five times this year, but I still haven't planned to go🤣
Another weekend has arrived🎑🎎 The streets are still very quiet✨
There are hardly any earthquakes now, but we still need to take it slow, who knows how many months it will be before people come😅
I thought it would be like other famous attractions in Hualien such as the Chingxiu Temple or the nearby Prosecutor General's Lodge, which have💰, but in reality, it's free. In the evening, I went for a walk in the riverside park, and you can just walk into it, the old Shogunate street inside has cultural and creative coffee shops☕ and the previous Meilun gourmet curry🍲, all traditional pure Japanese architectural designs🏠🏠🏠
You can also set up a tent⛺ to enjoy a leisurely afternoon, bring the kids for a happy holiday experience😍😍
Now there is a hotel being demolished next door, you have to detour to get here🚙🚙 Next week the road should be directly accessible to the downtown area without detours😎😍
