This heritage house is very well maintained and there are a good collection of the fixture that they have managed to keep in good condition. They are also very well displayed. 👍🏻
Overall, the Cheng's House is a fascinating attraction that celebrates Macau's rich cultural heritage. Its beautiful architecture, unique collection of antiques, and informative displays make it a must visit destination for anyone interested in this region's history and culture.
Definitely recommend if you have some time to explore the city. 🥰❤️

No doubt the Mandarin House has good historic value, and it's nice that entry is free. I was a bit disappointed, however, to find that the house is not well-maintained. A lot of rooms are empty. There are some nice signs in Chinese and English talking about the history of the place, and the building itself has nice architecture, but it has an almost abandoned feel to it which is a real shame. If they fixed it up and put some period furnishings in it this could be a real gem. But worth a stop for a few minutes en route to A-Ma Temple.

Zheng Jia Dawu is located on the side of Macao Street in Macau. It was built in 1881 and has a history of 137 years. Due to the age, the old house was once weathered into a dilapidated dangerous building, and the mansion that is now seen is repaired later.
Like other World Cultural Heritage sites in Macau, Zhengjia Big House does not charge tickets. It is open from 10am to 6pm and closed on Wednesday. However, if you encounter large holidays, Wednesday is also open to welcome guests. .
Zhengjia Dawu is the ancestral home of the thinker Zheng Guanying. It is composed of a parallel courtyard building. The large house building is about 4,000 square meters and is divided into two floors. The interior of the
big house can be seen in Chinese style, such as screens and window sills, and the wood carvings on the beams are all delicate and delicate.
Zhengjia Dawu was built with full consideration of the sense of space and lighting, such as the opening of a row of windows on the wall, which is conducive to direct light into the room or hall. There is also a patio or an open space in the middle of each courtyard of the big house for daylighting.
Zhengjia Dawu also combines many Western architectural features on the basis of Chinese style. For example, the shape of the window and the shape of the promenade are all Chinese in the Western style.
Transportation: You can take bus No.18 and No.28B to the front of Yapo Well (due to the single-line line, the station only has the descending vehicles to stop); or you can take the bus to Age, and go north along Age Street.

This sprawling complex features intricately designed courtyards, pavilions and gardens that was built in the mid 90s. Macau World Heritage, take a look at this Zheng Family Mansion
Macau World Heritage, take a look at this Zheng Family Mansion.
The Zheng Family Mansion was the family residence of Zheng Guanying, a famous figure in modern Chinese history, and the world-renowned 'Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity' was completed here.
The construction was initiated by Zheng Guanying's father, Zheng Wenrui.
Subsequently, the Zheng brothers expanded the scale continuously, and the construction period should be before the eighth year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1869).
The Zheng Family Mansion now covers an area of nearly 4,000 square meters
and is the largest existing private residential complex in Macau.
The architectural features fully reflect the characteristics of the combination of Chinese and Western cultures in Macau. In the 1920s and 1930s, due to the Zheng family members living in different places,
many parts of the mansion were rented out, at one point housing seventy-two tenants. Many parts of the building were modified or added on to, and due to a long period of lack of maintenance,
some structures collapsed. In 2001, the Macau cultural authorities, with the assistance of architectural restoration experts and former residents, restored it to its original appearance.
After the renovation, the original features of the building were basically restored.

In Macau (36) | Walking | Feel the character of the city through a stroll
✅Every city has its own character, the indelible yet constantly renewing marks etched by nature, people, and time. Perhaps it's a clarity that's crystal clear at first glance? Or a profoundness that requires meticulous analysis to appreciate? However, each passing of people, the city images they carry in their hearts, perhaps, have their own unique interpretations, just like everyone has their own 'Rome' in their heart.
✅Macau is certainly a city with a rich character. Not to mention the nearly 500 years of integration of Eastern and Western cultures, just the present-day weathered, simple, and even somewhat decadent daily life of the streets and alleys, contrasted with the meticulously crafted, glittering, and world-trend-leading casinos and resorts, is like water and fire, half cool, half passionate.
✅Only by walking through it can one deeply feel it. The recommended City Walking route on the Macau Peninsula takes into account World Heritage sites, modern landmarks, old city streets, and luxury resorts, starting from A-Ma Temple and ending at Largo do Senado, with footsteps measuring the echoes of sound, color, and history.
➡️A-Ma Temple: The oldest temple in Macau, the first stop for the Portuguese, and the origin of the name Macau;
➡️Marine and Water Bureau Building: A European barracks with Islamic decorative style;
➡️Zheng Family Mansion: The former residence of the Zheng family, author of 'Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity', the largest traditional Chinese architectural complex in Macau;
➡️Lilau Square: A quiet corner where ancient springs flow with stories of nostalgia that have been passed down to this day;
➡️Penha Hill: The best viewing platform in front of the small chapel, where even tiny Macau has a vast sea and sky, with the tourist tower reaching into the clouds, the elegant West Bay, the modern South Bay, the green hills of Cotai, and the buildings of Hengqin, all picturesque;
➡️St. Lawrence's Church: St. Lawrence's Church, where countless women and children once watched for returning sails from the high platform in front of the door;
➡️St. Joseph's Seminary and Church: The most beautiful Baroque-style church in Macau, a training base for the spread of Catholicism in East Asia;
➡️Company of Jesus Square: The Company of Jesus Theatre, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, St. Augustine's Church, a dazzling array of World Heritage sites;
➡️Rua da Felicidade: The former red light district, now with a new look;
➡️San Ma Lo: The 'new' of the 1930s, one of the symbols of Macau's entry into modern society;
➡️Senado Square: The most characteristic memory point of Macau, with the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Santa Casa da Misericórdia, Church of St. Dominic, Cathedral, and the three-street guild halls, a collection of World Heritage sites with Chinese and Western features, not to be missed.
➡️Grand Lisboa➡️Hotel Lisboa: Unique architecture, bustling landmarks.
✅Dual-faced Macau, walk a thousand times, never tire.

The Zheng Family Mansion in Macau: A Fusion of Chinese and Western Styles
The area in front of the A-Ma Well is known for its Portuguese flair, but less than 10 meters away lies Macau's largest existing traditional residence—the Zheng Family Mansion.
The Zheng Family Mansion was the home of the renowned patriotic industrialist Zheng Guanying. It was built in the latter half of the 19th century and has a history of one and a half centuries. The mansion occupies a spacious area and features ingenious design. It is a grand Lingnan-style house that combines Chinese and Western elements, representing the pinnacle of traditional Macanese residential architecture in the 19th century, and thus it has become an important part of the Historic Centre of Macau, a World Cultural Heritage site.
The Zheng Family Mansion is the only residence in Macau that holds the title of 'Rong Lu', signifying its distinguished status. The entrance on the main street is surprisingly understated, resembling a small door casually made in a wall. The winding path to the entrance leads to a small yet exquisite courtyard, hinting at the extraordinary nature of the home. Upon entering the main courtyard, one is greeted with a sense of openness.
The main courtyard is nearly a hundred meters long. Walking from the A-Ma Temple, the narrow roads and cramped houses of the Historic Centre of Macau are the norm, so the sudden appearance of such a spacious courtyard is truly astonishing. The various buildings of the mansion line up alongside the courtyard, with their carved beams and painted rafters on the main wall resembling a hundred-meter-long scroll, grand and imposing.
The mansion consists of several sets of houses, similar to today's terraced villas. Each set is independent yet organically integrated into the whole mansion, subtly reflecting the traditional Chinese concept of harmony between the individual and the collective.
The central house is called Yu Qing Tang, the most exquisite and luxurious of all, serving as the main house of the entire mansion. The overall architecture adopts the traditional structure of Lingnan residential buildings, but the local decorations, such as the window lattices, feature a Southeast Asian style. In this hall, one can find elements of architectural styles from various places, truly making it a fusion of Chinese and Western art.
The buildings of the mansion are interconnected on the second floor, and there is a square inner courtyard on the north side. The buildings surrounding this courtyard each feature a different architectural style. The mix of four different styles promotes harmony and unity, making it one of my favorite parts of the entire mansion.
The Zheng Family Mansion has withstood the test of time. Once the home of a prominent family, it now stands as a model of 19th-century Macanese residential architecture that combines Chinese and Western styles. It is a must-visit attraction in the Historic Centre of Macau, with free admission and a visit typically lasting about an hour.
