Malacañang of the North
Antique house?? This was the resident of former President Ferdinand Marcos during his reign, it was found in Paoay Ilocos Norte, which now converted into historic Museum and now famously known as Malacañang of the North. During our road trip in Ilocos region, 8-10 hours drive from Manila, we drop by and see this beautiful house. Almost all the appliances were preserved, most of the wood and textiles are made of Narra, the national tree of the Philippines and the windows are really the old style. It is a two-story mansion overlooking the Paoay Lake, and consists of seven (supposedly a lucky number for Marcos) rooms, with each room having a theme of historical events from the Marcos era: Study, Agriculture, Diplomacy, OFW (overseas Filipino workers), Culture, Nation Building and Family.

Malacañang of the North
The Malacañang of the North (or Malacañang ti Amianan in the Ilocano dialect) is a national park and museum in Paoay, Ilocos Norte province. Built in 1977 by the Philippine Tourism Authority, it was originally the official residence of President Ferdinand Marcos and family when visiting his home province.
Twenty years since management was given back to the care of Ilocos Norte. Ferdinand’s daughter, then-governor Imee Marcos had the complex refurbished to become a major historic attraction. The University of Santo Tomas’ Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics put together exhibits in every room, each one curated with themes reflecting the president’s landmark public programs.
How to get there
Malacañang of the North is located in Brgy. Suba, Paoay, Ilocos Norte. The best way to get here is by joining a guided tour or riding a jeepney or van bound for Paoay. Ask the driver to drop you off at the historic attraction.

Visiting the Malacañang Palace of the North in Ilocos Norte was an experience that left me in awe of the grandeur and historical significance that unfolded before my eyes. Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes and overlooking the serene Paoay Lake, this iconic mansion offered a remarkable journey into the magnificence of Philippine history especially the first family then -The Marcoses. If you have an affinity for history, architecture, and cultural heritage, I highly recommend a visit to this remarkable palace. Entrance Fee: 30 per person but may have changed now.
