Hong Kong 🇭🇰 |One of the must-see places for hiking on Sunday 🌟 - Ma On Shan Country Park 🌲
Ma On Shan Country Park is located in the eastern New Territories, connecting Sai Kung Country Park and Lion Rock Country Park. There are many popular hiking routes, and one of the more rugged and difficult ones is the one that goes through the mountains near Ma On Shan (702 meters), including Diaoshou Rock (588 meters), Niu Ya Shan (677 meters) and Tai Kam Chung (534 meters). The mountain climbing path is dangerous, and there are many floating sand and gravel when going down the mountain. There are cliffs on both sides of some mountain paths, which are somewhat dangerous. It is not suitable for novices, and it is not recommended to go alone. What attracts us to Ma'anshan, besides the opportunity to challenge the intermediate-level routes, is the scenery along the way.

Overlooking Ma On Shan and enjoying the scenery of Sai Kung
This route is very scenic. The first section overlooks the scenery of Ma On Shan and Tolo Harbour, while the middle and later sections offer views of Sai Kung, with an almost endless view. Being high up in Ma On Shan, you can overlook the high-rise buildings in Ma On Shan and Sha Tin. On the other side, you can also enjoy the scenery of Sai Kung Peninsula, Pak Sha Wan and Port Shelter. The blue sea and blue sky there complement each other, forming a sharp contrast with the hustle and bustle of the city on the other side. It reminds us of the scenery under the high mountains in the west of Hong Kong Island, where you can also enjoy the suburban scenery. Although it didn't rain on the day of departure, the clouds were thick at some point and it didn't clear up until the end of the route, which wasted the open views of this route. I strongly recommend that friends who plan to take this route must choose a day with clear weather before setting off.
This time, we set out in late autumn on purpose, firstly because the weather was cooler, and secondly to see the Miscanthus. This route is open and has little shade along the way, so you should think twice if you plan to go there in the summer, and you also need to take adequate sun protection measures. Even in autumn, we did not dare to neglect our efforts. In addition to sunscreen, we also brought more water than usual. The autumn wind blows, and before we know it, it is the season when the Miscanthus is in full bloom. The Miscanthus we passed by this time was even more unexpected. The Miscanthus was in full bloom on the mountain, and the Miscanthus between Niuya Mountain and Ma'an Mountain was the most spectacular. The golden Miscanthus, as tall as a person, covered the mountaintops and swayed in the wind. It was like a fairyland in the silver waves.
