Just returned from a fantastic trip to Lyon, France, and it exceeded all my expectations! 🏙️🍷 Lyon is a city that perfectly blends rich history, vibrant culture, and incredible food. We started our visit in the old town, Vieux Lyon, with its narrow, winding streets and Renaissance architecture. The entrance to the impressive Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière was free, and the views of the city from the top were absolutely stunning. ⛪️🌟
We spent some time exploring the Musée des Beaux-Arts, where the €8 entrance fee gave us access to a vast collection of art spanning from ancient times to the modern era. The museum itself, housed in a former abbey, was a marvel. 🎨 After soaking up some culture, we indulged in Lyon’s renowned cuisine at a traditional bouchon. The coq au vin and local wine were delicious! 🍷🥘
In the afternoon, we strolled through the Parc de la Tête d'Or, a beautiful park with a large lake and a botanical garden—perfect for a relaxing walk. 🚶♂️🌳 We also enjoyed exploring the traboules, secret passageways between buildings that date back to the Renaissance. The Historic Old Town of Lyon
The Old Town of Lyon
🏖️ Environment/Facilities: It is a Renaissance-style district. In 1954, it became the first cultural heritage protected by the Malraux Law in France. Located at the foot of Fourvière Hill and on the west bank of the Saône River, it covers an area of 24 hectares and is one of the largest Renaissance districts in Europe.
💞 Recommendation Reason: The Old Town still retains streets of the Renaissance era, and the signboard layouts of the shops also preserve traces of the years. Nowadays, most have been transformed into galleries and concentrated areas of art, filled with an artistic atmosphere and a sense of mystery, making it very worthwhile to appreciate.

On the second day of the old lady's solo adventure in Europe, she strolled around Lyon for eight hours
2/21 Lyon CITY WALK day tour, eight hours, 26,500 steps.
⭐Lyon is one of the oldest cities in France. The main urban area is divided into three major parts: the Fourvière Hill on the west side, the old town located on the peninsula between the Rhône and Saône rivers, and the new town area mainly concentrated in the east.
⭐Walking path: Rhône River - Old Town of Lyon - Saône River - Bellecour Square - Lyon Cathedral - Miniature Museum of Cinema - Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière - City Hall Square - Murals of the People of Lyon - Vieux Lyon.
⭐The old town of Lyon is not large, with narrow streets and few pedestrians, very quiet. Lyon has little greenery, apart from the ancient buildings, art, and historical and cultural relics, as well as the two rivers, there are no natural landscapes. Bellecour and other squares are all paved with sand and soil; if there is a strong wind, will it blow up these yellow soils into the sky.
⭐After walking for a day, I particularly liked the Lyon Cathedral and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, admiring their grandeur and exquisite architecture, as well as the atmosphere inside.
⭐Lyon Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saint John, began construction in the 12th century on the ruins of a 6th-century church, and after three centuries, was completed in 1476. It is the most majestic church in Lyon.
⭐The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière was built in the 19th century, located on the Fourvière Hill to the west of the cathedral, and is a landmark building of Lyon. Climbing up Fourvière Hill, you can not only visit the Basilica but also overlook the entire city of Lyon.
⭐The overall architecture of Lyon is low and antique, around six stories, with brick-red roofs, uniform in color and height. A few towering modern buildings are located near the Part-Dieu train station.
A quiet Lyon, a day's tour is enough.
⭐You can use a credit card on Lyon's buses, which is very convenient. Yesterday, at the bus stop outside the train station, I asked the attendant how to buy a ticket, and for some reason, the attendant said that you can't use a bank card or cash on the bus, and kindly took me to a small shop across the street to buy a ticket. The bus fare is 2 euros, and the shop charges 2.2, with about a 10% handling fee. Today I only took the bus once, the rest was all solid CITY WALK. If you need to take the bus more than four times, buy a day pass, 24 hours for 6.5 euros, which is relatively more cost-effective, and it is said that the day pass can only be bought at the subway station.
