[2025 Zhoushan Attraction] Travel Guide for Luojia Hill (Updated Feb)

Luojia Mountain covers an area of about 0.63 square kilometers, with the highest peak at an altitude of 97.1 meters. The coastline is winding, surrounded by jagged reefs of various shapes, like countless colorful corals surrounding the fairy mountain. It is part of the Buddhist holy land of Mount Putuo and is said to be the holy place where Guanyin Bodhisattva practiced. It is said that pilgrims to Mount Putuo must visit Luojia Mountain, and there is a saying that "a pilgrimage to Mount Putuo is not complete without visiting Luojia Mountain." On the mountain, there are Yuantong Nunnery, Great Compassion Hall, Great Enlightenment Hall, Kalan Hall, Five Hundred Arhats Pagoda, Forty-eight Wishes Pagoda, Crystal Palace, and more. Winter opening hours: 7:00–13:30 How to get to the island: By boat (about one hour apart). The pier is a two or three-minute walk to the right of the Better Stone. You will see the "Nezha" bronze statue. How to buy tickets: Follow Zhoushan Tourism Group, click on ticket booking, CNY 70 for adults, CNY 35 for children. Time arrangement: It takes about an hour and a half to reach the top and return. We took the boat at around 9:00, landed on the island at 9:20, and returned at 10:50. The elderly in our group were not as agile as young people, but they managed to catch up. We disembarked at around 11:30, and by then, there was already a long queue of people waiting to board. Notes: Incense is not provided here, so remember to bring your own. There are stairs up and down, so be cautious if you are not physically fit. Remember to collect the holy water dripping from the jade vase of Guanyin Bodhisattva when you reach the top. There is also bottled holy water available for you to take away, and you can make a donation as you wish.

Luojia Mountain is located about 5 km southeast of Putuoshan, facing it across the sea. According to the Lotus Sutra, there is a mountain in this place, and there is a Bodhisattva named Avalokitesvara. Historically, Putuo and Luojia have been linked together. It is said that Avalokitesvara first practiced and attained enlightenment on Luojia Mountain, and later went to Putuoshan to establish a Bodhisattva temple. Looking east from Putuoshan, Luojia Mountain stands alone in the sea, like a reclining sea Buddha lying on the lotus ocean. There are special boats to Luojia Mountain from Putuoshan every morning and afternoon. Tourist resources include Xiangdao, Miaozhan Pagoda, and Yuantong Hall. This trip to Ningbo and Putuoshan, Zhoushan, started with a high-speed train to Ningbo, where we stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel, Ningbo, and visited the Former Residence of Chiang Kai-shek in Xikou, Fenghua, Tianyi Pavilion Museum, and Ningbo Museum. On the afternoon of the third day, we took a bus to Putuoshan and stayed at the Hilton Zhoushan for three nights. We took a ferry to Putuoshan Scenic Area for two days to worship Avalokitesvara. What a wonderful time!
