Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area (Part 2)
Lingyun Mountain, Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, Leshan, Pilu Hall, Leshan, Sichuan
Enter the south gate of Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, and you will see a large Chinese character "佛" (Buddha) in front of you, which will make you feel awe. Not far ahead, on the cliff on the side of the river, there are two ancient cannons pointing to the river. This is the Huanglian Ancient Cannon Platform, one of the dozens of ancient cannon platforms in the San Gui Jiu Ding City. At the end of the Song Dynasty and the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, the Song and Yuan armies fought bloody battles here. This heavy cannon is a historical witness of the Song army's resistance against the Yuan army. At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Yuan army captured Chengdu and then began to attack Jiazhou along the Minjiang River. The Jiazhou garrison spent three years building this independent castle integrating production, life, and military defense on San Gui Mountain and Lingyun Mountain, which is known as "San Gui Jiu Ding City."
Further ahead is the Stele Forest, which is a must-see attraction in the scenic area. It is located between the Duiyue and Zhuru peaks of Lingyun Mountain, consisting of two groups of buildings in the style of ancient pavilions and corridors, hidden among the ancient trees. At the entrance of the Stele Forest stands a stone tablet with the words "poetry, calligraphy, and painting" inscribed by Deng Xiaoping. The Stele Forest displays calligraphy steles of famous people from ancient and modern times, most of which are rubbings of ink marks collected by the Giant Buddha Scenic Area, including many treasures, such as the works of Su Dongpo, Huang Tingjian, Zheng Banqiao, and modern and contemporary figures such as Kang Youwei, Guo Moruo, Zhao Puchu, Li Yimang, Guan Shanyue, and Qian Jiaju. One of the Tibetan steles was written by the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Apai Awang Jinmei, which means that the stone-carved Buddha embodies the essence of Chinese art and hopes to be restored and protected.
Further ahead is Pilu Temple. Pilu Temple is a temple integrating ancient-style architecture, cliff carvings, sculptures, and other elements. A mountain path paved with white marble leads directly to Pilu Temple, surrounded by camphor trees with a pleasant fragrance, creating a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Pilu Temple is located on Danxia Peak of Lingyun Mountain, built in the style of Tang Dynasty palaces, consisting of three halls: Maitreya Hall, Pilu Hall, and Huayan Hall. It is adjacent to Leshan Giant Buddha and Lingyun Temple, quiet and distant. The environment around Pilu Temple is beautiful, with lush forests and bamboo on the mountain all year round, and the confluence of three rivers at the foot of the mountain, enjoying the reputation of being the crown of southwest mountains and rivers.
