I visited the Maurizio Cattelan exhibition, which is becoming increasingly difficult to reserve! Since I am a student on leave, I thought I could easily reserve a weekday morning and go, but every single time slot was sold out..😮💨 I searched the Internet for reservation tips and ended up going! I'll also introduce some reservation tips at the end😎
I'm someone who's into playing alone these days, so I went alone to challenge myself with 'going to an exhibition alone'~ and even though it was a weekday, there were so many people and the atmosphere was bustling!
'Maurizio Cattelan' is an Italian visual artist who is known as 'the most controversial artist of this era'. As expected from a troublemaker in the art world who causes controversy and debate, the scale of the exhibition was much larger than I thought, and there were so many works that even I, who is an extremely strong S in MBTI, kept imagining and inspiring. I usually like exhibitions, but embarrassingly, I went there to take a picture of my life rather than to appreciate the works.
Since it was an exhibition I went to suddenly without a companion, I couldn't take pictures of myself, but I tried hard to take pictures of the works that made me stop and the works that were trending on SNS! I'll also attach a cut of the banana work that I've been thinking about for a long time and that made 'Catelan', who is currently in the spotlight.
- Breath, 2021
You can see a person and a dog lying down out of nowhere in a large exhibition hall. At first, I thought of a pet playing well at home, so my heart warmed and I just saw the owner and the pet lying down without any worries, but I was a little puzzled because the title was ‘Breath.’ It seemed like they were communicating at a close distance where I could feel each other’s breath, and then I felt sad because it seemed to mean the death of one of them. Whether it’s the death of a person or an animal, I thought that my heart would be at peace if I was next to a loved one. Even if my interpretation was off the mark with the artist’s intention, I felt like it was trying to give the viewers a sense of warmth and stability.
- Comedian, 2019
When I encountered the most famous work, I automatically picked up my camera and started taking pictures. This work is on the second floor of the three-story exhibition hall. As expected, the thought, ‘Why is this art?’ dominated my mind. What was a bit funny was that since the bananas turn brown, they are replaced with new ones every three days, and it takes over 30 minutes just to tape the bananas because the angle has to be precise.
🍯 Reservation Tips!
Online reservations are available 14 days before the viewing date! That means, if the date you have in mind is after the 14th, it would be better to wait and reserve right away, right?
In my case, I made a reservation impulsively after seeing SNS, so I didn't have a date in mind, so I used a cancellation ticket.
Since cancellation tickets come up all the time, it's a good idea to keep 'using cancellation tickets' in mind and go quickly!
Also, you must log in to reserve tickets on the online website, so you should sign up and log in in advance.
The official ticket opening is at 6 o'clock, but it doesn't seem like all tickets open at 6 o'clock. If you go to the homepage at 6 o'clock, there will be a lot of people accessing it, so it takes a long time for the page to open, so try going 30 minutes later and keep refreshing. Even if the screen says it's sold out, if you keep refreshing, you'll see cancellations one by one!
