⛱️Must-see attractions: Lazikou, Tiechiliang From Diebu to Lanzhou, the recommended route on Gaode Map is to pass through Lazikou and get on the expressway at Minxian County. I thought visiting Lazikou would be a great way to end this trip on a red note, but I didn't expect to pass through a surprise section - Tiechiliang. Lazikou Scenic Area is right by the roadside. It seems that there is no plan to let people stay here for too long, so there is no dedicated parking lot. Vehicles visiting the scenic area are parked on the roadside. Lazikou is a stone gate cut out by a tributary of the Bailong River in the mountains. It is very dangerous, and it is truly a place where one man can hold off ten thousand. In the autumn of 1935, the Red Army, exhausted after marching 20,000 miles on the Long March, had to pass through this pass, which was heavily guarded by the Kuomintang army. The sacrifice they had to make was enormous, and the exact number is still unknown. Not far from Lazikou, the road spirals up the Minshan Mountains to a high point called Tiechiliang. From Lazikou at an altitude of 1,600 meters, the 30-kilometer mountain road rises to an altitude of 3,500 meters at Tiechiliang, which made our just-recovered altitude sickness worse, probably more of a psychological effect. After crossing the snow-capped mountains, Chairman Mao wrote the poem "The Long March" in October 1935: "... The Legend of Lazikou: Lazikou, a mysterious place in Tibetan meaning "a dangerous mountain pass." In September 1935, the First Front Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army encountered unprecedented challenges here. The Kuomintang garrison attempted to block the Red Army's northward march with natural barriers. However, the brave Red Army soldiers did not retreat. They attacked head-on, climbed cliffs, and encircled and annihilated the enemy. After fierce battles, they finally captured Lazikou in the early morning of September 17. This victory not only opened the way for the Red Army to enter Shaanxi and Gansu, but also left a strong mark in the history of the revolution. Today, when you stand at Lazikou, you can still hear the inspiring bugle call and feel that magnificent history.
