I stumbled upon this place by accident, and it was a pleasant surprise. The scenery is stunning.

It's not abroad, it's in the northeast of China. The sunlight illuminates every maple leaf, creating a vibrant display of orange and red. For the first time, I found myself having to lower the saturation while editing photos... This place is truly the best spot for autumn maple viewing! The photos were taken at Laobiangou in Benxi on November 1, 2024. It's even redder now! Laobiangou is not only great for photography but also perfect for hiking and stream tracing in the fall. Route 1: Ice Valley Tour Route You can climb to the top of Phoenix Peak for a panoramic view of Laobiangou's autumn colors. There are activities along the way, so it's recommended to take the tour bus one way and then hike down. Route 2: Yongge River Tour Route (★Recommended) Hike along the stream, and you'll feel like you're walking in a painting. The entire trail is about 8 km, taking around 4 hours round trip. In my opinion, the highlight is the section between Heyan Bay and Yilian Pavilion. If you're only interested in maple viewing, you can hike to Yilian Pavilion, then go uphill to the road, and take the tour bus or walk back. (Walking along the road takes about 20 minutes) Travel Tips: The best time for maple viewing along the stream is between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm, so plan your trip accordingly. √ Laobiangou and Dashihu are very close to each other, so you can visit both in one day. It's cheaper to buy a combo ticket at least two hours in advance. √ Public transportation in Benxi is not very convenient, and traffic jams are common during the maple season, so it's recommended to drive. √ If you're driving and need any tips, feel free to leave a comment! The maple leaves here change from green to yellow, and then from yellow to red. The colorful leaves and the flowing water complement each other, making you feel like you are in a poetic painting. The maple leaves in Laobiangou turn red earlier than those in Guanmen Mountain. There are many kinds of maple leaves, and the colors are bright. Laobiangou was developed later, so it is more primitive. Transportation: Self-driving: Just locate the ticket office of Lao Bian Gou Scenic Area. Taxi: Whether from Benxi or Shenyang, taking a taxi is very expensive. On my way back, I hailed a taxi at the intersection and luckily found an empty taxi that took me to Benxi for 20 yuan. Bus: 1. There are one-day tours from Shenyang or Benxi, but the itinerary is not free. 2. Train from Shenyang to Xiaoshi (Benxi County), Benxi County Passenger Station - Xianchang Town 10 yuan, Xianchang Town - Nanyingfang (passing Lao Bian Gou and Dashi Lake). 3. I walked from Wunushan all the way here, and at Yanghu Gou, I met a traveler who offered me a free ride to Lao Bian Gou. Routes: 1. Yongge River Tour Route: Yongge River (Main Scenic Area) tour route is 8 kilometers long, round-trip tour time is about 4 hours. 2. Bingfeng Valley Tour Route: Bingfeng Valley tour route, road is about 3 kilometers, walking trail is about 4 kilometers, round-trip tour time is about 2 hours. Notes: 1. Whether to take the scenic area shuttle bus depends on your physical strength. Generally, you can choose to walk in and then take the bus back, which can save half of your physical strength. 2. The scenic area is relatively large, it is recommended to stay at a farmhouse near the entrance of the scenic area one night in advance (100-200 yuan), so that you can avoid the crowds when you enter early in the morning. This is how I walked. 3. Although there is a hiking trail that can lead directly from here to Dashi Lake, I asked several staff members and they couldn't tell me clearly. I didn't walk either, so please pay attention to safety. 4. The water in the ditch will first change from narrow to wide, then to red. However, the forest is very large, and if you want to find it, you can still find a place without people. 🚗 More annoying than the people in the scenic spot is the traffic jam, jam, jam!
