[2025 Danleng Attraction] Travel Guide for Lao'e Mountain (Updated Apr)

Sichuan has a great number of temples, and I've visited quite a few of them, both large and small. I happened to learn that the first Buddhist mountain in Sichuan is near Chengdu, so I invited a friend to go hiking with me over the weekend and learn about the culture. During the reign of Emperor Ming of Han, a monk came from the Western Regions to practice Buddhism in Lao'e Mountain. His Dharma name was Yuanjue, and he was the founding master of the mountain. Buddhism entered Sichuan and flourished in Lao'e Mountain before spreading to Er'e Mountain (now Mount Emei), which shows the importance of Lao'e Mountain. Every year around the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, Lao'e Mountain holds a traditional mountain pilgrimage. This tradition has lasted for over a thousand years, and countless believers come here to pray for blessings every year. 📈 Itinerary: The overall hiking intensity of Lao'e Mountain is relatively low. After entering, you can first go to Chenghuai Lake to enjoy the lake view. If you bring children, you can also take a boat trip. After visiting Chenghuai Lake, you can climb the mountain along the Golden Summit direction. It takes about an hour to reach the top without a break. Next to the longest staircase, I was attracted by Baozi Temple. The temple was very quiet. When I entered, the monks were chanting scriptures and beating drums, which looked particularly sacred under the sunlight. We choose to explore the lower half of the figure-eight route (Chenghuai Lake, jungle crossing, etc.) on the first day, and the upper half (summit) on the second day. The entire route is circular, with no backtracking. Refer to Figure 2 for the specific route. 3️⃣ From the scenic area entrance to Buddha's Love (Figure 8), you can rent an electric vehicle for 32 yuan for 20 minutes. Fees: Ticket + sightseeing bus ticket 29.9 yuan🎫 3 Navigation: Lao'e Mountain Scenic Area (outside the visitor center at the entrance of the mountain is an open-air parking lot, which is very spacious and parking is charged by the hour)🚗 4 Overall time consumption: The whole mountain is very green, and it basically feels like walking through a forest. 🏃 You need to take a sightseeing bus from the mountain gate to the starting point of the climb. At the beginning, there is a long driveway that requires climbing, but after entering the mountain, it is basically stone steps. We took the large loop that day and went directly to the Golden Summit. The official recommendation is that it takes 5 hours. We went up and down at a normal speed and it took about 3 hours. Overall it is not difficult and is also suitable for family trips. Sightseeing Highlights: 1. At the end of the driveway, there is an arch bridge called Buddha's Fate of Love. A big word "缘" is written on the bridge, which looks like the scene of Fairy Zixia and Zhizunbao hugging each other at the end of "A Chinese Odyssey"; 2. There is a place for drinking tea in the middle of the steps, where you can take a break if you are tired~🍵🍵 3. There is a platform halfway up the mountain with a great view of the mountains. Here you can calm down and listen to the rustling sound of the leaves in the wind;🔭 4. Keep walking along the mountain road and you will arrive at the highest peak of Laoe Mountain, Jinding. From the Golden Summit, you can overlook the entire Danleng County, and the scenery is quite spectacular; 📷 5. When we were going down the mountain, we saw a long jungle adventure area, which was basically a level with steel wires and hanging in the air. It was still quite difficult. I saw a kid in his teens taking the challenge, which was quite interesting. 🧗‍♂️ 6. There is also a Chenghuai Lake at the bottom of the mountain. It is surrounded by mountains and is very quiet. You can go boating and watch the lake ripple slowly, which will make you feel that all the fatigue from climbing has been swept away. 🚣 Note: 1. You can buy mineral water, grilled sausages and other snacks in the mountains. There is also a vegetarian restaurant halfway up the mountain. Overall, you don’t have to worry about food and drink. 2. It is recommended to prepare trekking poles, as the steps down the mountain are basically stairs, which are not very friendly to the knees; 3. There is a fork in the road just after entering the mountain where you can experience the glass suspension bridge, 50 yuan/person. If you are interested, you can go and experience it~ You can climb mountains, enjoy the view, have fun with your kids, and exercise... The trip to Lao'e Mountain is very nice overall!
