Lamma Island felt like a different place entirely! It was the perfect contrast to the chaos of Hong Kong 🏙️ 🏝️ 🗓️Itinerary Scheduling: We were staying in Aberdeen so took the ferry from there to the fishing village of Sok Kwu Wan. It took about 40 mins and cost around HKD 12. Try to time it to have lunch at one of the many seafood 🦞 restaurants by the pier! After eating, we took the well-signposted 5km Lamma Island Family Walk trail to Yung Shue Wan. It took about an hour with plenty of stopping, and the path took us past the Kamikaze Cave as well as some small island villages. At times, the views were outstanding! We were tempted to stop for a while on the beach as we passed it, but continued on to Yung Shue Wan. Once there, we stopped for iced tea for a rest, explored the small town and got a passenger ferry back to Aberdeen from there (about HKD 24)⛴️ 💞Reasons to Recommend: The island is tranquil and laid back, it seems far removed from the city! Lamma Island is my childhood memory of vacationing with my friends in secondary school. When I grew up, I often chose to go to Cheung Chau to Tai O, Discovery Bay or Sai Kung Ta Men, but I haven't come back to Lamma Island for so many years. On the day, take the MTR to Central MTR Station and walk for about 5 to 10 minutes to Central Pier 4. There are two types of ferries from Central to Lamma Island, namely to Banyan Bay or Sok San Bay. We set off at Banyan Bay. The grandeur of the "three incense sticks" can already be seen from the boat. A must-visit for a day trip to Lamma Island! We went to Tai Wan Tu Beach, about 15 minutes from Banyan Bay Pier, to take pictures. It is closer to the power plant and is the best photo spot for a day trip to Lamma Island After taking pictures of the power plant, we walked up the hill through Hong Sheng Yeh Bay through Tin Hau Temple and a village. The path was quite easy and easy along the way. Halfway through Pineapple Hill, we ate the melons and vegetables grown by the locals and had a taste of homemade farm food. HUNG SHING YE BEACH, LAMMA ISLAND The beaches on Yung Shue Wan are a bit of a walk from the main street (about 20-30 minutes depending on walking speed and distractions) and through the wilderness of Lamma. Lamma Island is served by two main ferry terminals, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. Ferries between Central and Yung Shue Wan run every 20-30 minutes in the morning and evening, and every 45-60 minutes during the daytime. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

The ferry rides are worth it just for the views, both of the majestic Hong Kong Island skyline, and the lush greenery of the mountains as you approach Lamma. And once there, enjoy a nice seafood dinner, and perhaps a breathtaking sunset… The beach of course is a must see here and it is almost unmissable since it is located between the two ferry piers and easily reached from either. Not the biggest beach but very clean and with soft sand and lapping ocean waves its perfect for a dip or a sunbath. It is rarely too busy here and gives you a chance to take a break from hectic life and just relax. The beach has changing rooms and toilets which are functional and adequate to use. Take a ferry from Central pier 5. This is one of the beautiful island you have to travel. About 20 minutes for the ferry and 10 minutes walk down to the Main Street of Ying Shui Wan, you will found different kinds of restaurants like Spain,Italian… If you like to take a swim you can go to the beach name .. We live in Western Hong Kong. The most convenient way is to take the ferry from Central Pier. There are two ferries to Lamma Island, Banyan Bay and Sok San Bay. The main attractions are on the Banyan Bay side, and Sok San Bay is mainly for seafood. This time our itinerary is to go hiking on Lamma Island. The route is from Yung Shue Wan to Sok Kwu Wan, the whole journey takes about 3 hours, including taking photos and rest time. First, we set out from the pier and walked for 20 minutes to the windmill power station. Then we walked down the mountain and arrived at Hongshengye Bay. There are several convenience stores near the beach where we can refill water before setting off. Go straight along the hiking trail and you will find a rest stop after about 30 minutes. There are people selling iced pineapples and drinks nearby, so don't worry if you don't bring enough water. Then continue along the road for about an hour to reach Sok Kwu Wan, where there is also a boat to Central! Lamma is an island around 45-60mins away by ferry from Central. There are two main ferry piers on the island; one on the northern shore and the other towards the middle of the island. The northern one, Yung Shue Wan, is more popular and busy. Nonetheless, it is quite common to go into one and leave from the other. As such, Lamma is a lovely island to go for a hike. There are various hiking trails and they bring you to different points of the island. They aren't difficult by any standards and you'll have restaurants and stores in the nearby villages. More importantly, Lamma island is great for seafood. It is extreme fresh and tasty and there'll be something for everyone. On the Sok Kwu Wan Pier, seafood restaurants line the street so you'll never be short of choice. Have a meal here in the outside overlooking the sea in a very comfortable setting. Overall Lamma is a great hop away from the busyness of HK. You'll be able to get some good hiking done while also eating great and fresh seafood. Lamma Says: In order to deepen the cross-cultural connection between Lamma Islanders and let the public discover another side of Lamma Island🏖from December this year to March next year, the Art Promotion Office launched the "Lamma Says:" public art project, which takes "coast" as the theme in the southern section of Lamma, centered on Sok Kwu Wan🏝, to review the history of this area and the lifestyle formed by the interaction between land and sea. This project invited different artists to participate in the artist-in-residence program, and to create art through exchanges and collaborations with different communities🎨 Other artists also displayed works inspired by natural and cultural elements in different spaces on the island🐂 For example, the cow, bird and pig statues that we saw today seemed to be made of scrap iron, and the others were made of paper with special paint to present a rust color, which was very unique🐖 In addition, directors produced documentaries about the Tin Hau Temple and the ferry industry to be screened🎞 and a series of corresponding activities were held during the exhibition, including guided tours, community workshops and documentary screenings.
