It is truly an architectural masterpiece!
* Book your tickets online in advance. *
Sagrada Família is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts millions of visitors each year, celebrated for both its architectural innovation and its spiritual significance.
How do I describe such beauty? It is breathtaking, majestic, creative, thoughtful, and much more!
I highly recommend using the audio guide (on the app) to fully understand the details of this masterpiece. It is impressive how each little piece has a meaning. Take your time to appreciate each corner.
Visiting one of the towers was worth it. You get to see beautiful views and go down the 400 stairs. It was an experience on its own!
I would visit again, no doubt!

🇪🇸Forever in awe with La Sagrada Familia
#familytrips2024
This is probably one of the most impressive spots we visited in Barcelona. Most beautiful church, and possibly the most beautiful place I have ever been. It really can't be described without seeing it. It's a true work of art. The best time to visit is when the sun is setting from 3 pm to 5 pm. I would recommend to arrive early and book tickets in advance as the slots get taken very soon! Each ticket costs 26 € and it’s definitely worth it!

If you are in Barcelona, this is amazing and worth a visit. I did a guided tour but I recommend just going on your own and doing your own audio tour. It is worth the climb up the stairs to the top. For the amateur tourist, I would give it an hour, but if you are interested in the history/art that La Sagrada has to offer, I would give it 2 hours. Be prepared to wait in a few lines to get in. But once you are in, there are no more lines.
There are no words to describe such an amazing sacred place. Trust me. If you want to soak up all the details that went into building this church, you can spend a day here. The museum is also a must-visit. The audio guide was very helpful and included in the ticket. Also, sit outside the church building for a while and observe all the columns. It gets crowded, so book your tickets online and get there a few minutes before your slot. This is a must-visit!

La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona, Spain
I stayed in a small hotel local to La Sagrada Familia and enjoyed an excellent experience whilst exploring the local area. La Sagrada Familia is a spectacle mixing both modern and aged engineering techniques culminating in a brilliant view. The experience inside was excellent, once again with incredible views and access to tours that provide expert analysis of the different areas of the cathedral. Overall a wonderful place to visit and an experience everyone should aim to do if travelling to Barcelona!

La Sagrada Familia
The creation and construction of the Sagrada Familia is living history.
Local bookseller Josep Maria Bocabella wanted to build an expiatory temple consecrated to the Holy Family. Bocabella initially assigned the project to the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, who designed a neo-Gothic project, and began construction in 1882.
However, because of several disagreements with Bocabella, Antoni Gaudí took over the assignment. Gaudí conceived a groundbreaking design that pushed the boundaries of all known architectural styles.
Gaudí’s primary goal was to build a church with facades that highlighted the three phases in the life of Jesus: Nativity, Passion and Glory. The architect’s vision was to incorporate organic symbolism in the architecture, stained glass and design elements in order to tell Jesus’s story as well as highlight some key biblical histories.
In 1891, when development of the Nativity facade began, Gaudí realized that the construction of the Sagrada Família was such an ambitious project that he certainly would not see its completion in his lifetime. In fear of the project being stopped after his death and once the church acquired its worship function, Gaudí decided that, instead of building the central nave, he would start on the external part of the church.
At the time, Gaudí was also working on Casa Milà (La Pedrera) and when that was completed in 1912, he focused exclusively on the construction of the Sagrada Família. He worked on it until he died in 1926 and was buried inside the crypt. After Gaudi’s death, Domènec Sugrañes i Gras assumed the main role of architect.
The temple suffered heavy damage during Spain’s Civil War (1936-39), when a group of anarchists set it on fire, burning a significant part of Gaudí’s workshop. Fortunately, part of his material could be restored.
Work resumed in 1954 and it’s been under construction ever since.
