Chania is an outer island of Greece, one of the regions of Crete. It has the elegant architectural style of a European community and the local residents are also very warm and polite. The landlord who was responsible for receiving me was such a person. Although I only stayed for a short day, I felt that this place was very special. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Moreover, this B&B was over a hundred years old. The owner packaged the things left by his ancestors into a small museum, allowing us tourists to visit and understand their Chania culture. The mere sight of this beautifully restored 16th century Venetian church is a good reason to visit and see the fine collection of artefacts dating from the Neolithic period to Roman domination. Notice the late Minoan sarcophagi and the large glass case with a whole herd of clay bulls (used to worship Poseidon). Other items of particular interest include Roman floor mosaics, Hellenistic gold jewelry, Linear A and Linear B clay tablets, and a marble sculpture of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Loutro is a small fishing village located in southern Crete (Chania Prefecture) time has forgotten. It took its name from the baths found there (loutro means bath). It is believed that it was the side of the ancient city of Phoenix and also was the port of ancient Anopolis. There are two ways to reach Loutro, by boat or on foot via Anopolis. However, we would not recommend the second one unless you are an experienced hiker. In reality Loutro is accessible only from the sea, which is why it has escaped the environmental and cultural deterioration brought by rampant touristic growth. There are no big hotels here, no crowded streets, no cars. Only a handful of residents along with a relatively small number of visitors enjoying the sun, the sea and the “freedom of seclusion”. The village is so small you can actually walk from one side to the other in 5 minutes or less. Still, you will not miss on anything; there are markets, taverns, restaurants, coffee shops and of course several hotels and rooms to let. Doing nothing is the best thing to do here. Most hotel rooms have balconies facing the bay, offering you the opportunity to get lost in the hypnotic view - yes, this is the peak of your day. Other than that, make sure to enjoy the food and rent a small boat to visit the marvelous beaches in the broader area especially Marmara and Glyka Nera. The waters are mythical. Moreover, there are several nice walks in the area, if you are up to a hike. You can explore the Gorge of Aradena, Imvros Gorge and of course the great Samaria Gorge. You can also climb the road up to Anopolis where you can admire the magnificent views towards the bay. The iguana beach is located on the island of Crete in Greece. We walked a bit though the uninhabited areas of the island near the sea to reach it. In Chania, the old Venetian harbor is super photogenic, and the narrow streets are packed with cafes, little shops and colorful houses. It’s easy to lose track of time just wandering. Heraklion feels a bit busier, but it’s got cool street art, markets, and a lot of local food spots. The mix of old ruins, Byzantine churches, and random alley cats makes the whole experience feel really real and down to earth. If you're into history, check out the old city walls or the Archaeological Museum. Everything’s pretty walkable, just wear comfy shoes because there’s a lot of cobblestone. Crete’s cities aren’t just beach detours, they’ve got loads to offer on foot. Perfect for slow exploring with a camera, a gelato, and no real plan.

This is so much fun. It can only be done from April until the end of May as this is when the snow melts on the White mountains to provide enough water along the river. you can have up to 6 people in the raft & the instructor gives great instructions with jokes along the way. You are on the raft for approx hour & 15mins. there is also someone taking videos which are sent to your WhatsApp free of charge. when finished, we were offered homemade cake & wine. It was a lovely enjoyable morning

You will feel miles away from anywhere here with the only noise to keep you company being the peacocks and pollinating bees. 🎭 Climbing back up, I passed my favourite plant of the whole visit, the Coral Plant (Picture 6).
