Kuroshio Market, a Must-Visit Fish Market in Wakayama with Tuna Cutting Show
Located a short drive from Wakayama, Kuroshio Market is a well-known local seafood market. Although it's not very large, it's always bustling with people. The parking lot next to it doesn't have many spaces, so you might have to queue, but you can offset your parking fee with purchases inside. If you don't want to wait, you can park near the amusement park instead, which isn't too far if you walk through the park.
Kuroshio Market's other major highlight is the live tuna cutting show featuring black tuna, held daily at 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM. It's quite a spectacle, and the freshly cut tuna is sold in the sales area to the left 👈, with prices starting at one thousand yen.
There's also a variety of fresh sashimi, fried foods, and grilled items. The grilled black tuna has more texture, so if you don't like chewy food, you might want to skip it. There's also an option to buy fresh seafood and grill it yourself in the outdoor dining area, which is a unique experience.

A bit pricy but worth going - Fish Market at Wakayama
One of the most visited tourist spot at Wakayama, Kuroshio Market.
It is cleaner and tidier than that at Osaka, which made us feel more comfortable. There are separated stalls which sell sashimi, skewers, sushi, juices and drinks, etc.
We grabbed some sushi including scallop and tuna, and also a bowl of sashimi rice with different parts of tuna. Also some eel&egg and shrimp skewers, and last but not least local mandarin juice, which is one of the must drink. The shrimp was bad as they were very overcooked due to prolonged heating, but the rest were fine. We also enjoyed the tuna cutting show.
The market is surrounded by a fruit market, an amusement park so you can visit multiple places at the same time.

When I went to the Kuroshio market in Wakayama with my friends, there was a Europa theme park next to the Kuroshio market. The place was not very big, but it was indeed the feeling of a European town. If you don't have a weekend, you can't basically see any tourists. It's a good choice to take a photo. The landscape is relatively small, but you can also take some good scenes. However, it is a pity that basically many houses are not allowed to enter, just decorative, less fun to play. But after eating and drinking in the Kuroshio market, its a good choice to take a photo in the past.
By the way, there is a regular tuna dismantling performance in the Kuroshio market, please don't miss it! ( )
