I went to Mount Kuno in Shizuoka City! After climbing the 1,159 stone steps, I found plum blossoms in bloom, although it was a little early. Mount Kuno, home to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, a shrine with a view of the sea. You can get to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine by ropeway from Nihon-daira, but from the sea side you have to climb 1,159 steps. It's called "Gochou" because it's 1,159 steps! Perhaps it's the perfect weekend exercise? ! Of course, climbing the long stairs is tiring, but the view at the end of the climb is amazing! Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, where Tokugawa Ieyasu was once buried You can get to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine by ropeway from Nihon-daira, or by walking up the 1,159 steps from the stone torii gate. The ropeway only takes about 100 steps! The 1,159 steps are said to be a pun on the Japanese word for "ichiichi gokurosan" (every single effort)! The view of Suruga Bay from the top of the stone steps is amazing♪ The shrine building is also gorgeous! Further in is the shrine mausoleum, where Ieyasu's remains were buried. There is an old saying that goes, "Itchi Gorou-san" (thank you for everything). The Toshogu Shrine is full of stairs with steps, so it's very difficult, but you can feel a sense of accomplishment when you reach the top.
