Kuching: The Charming City of Cats and Culture
#traveldiaries
Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, is one of Malaysia's most fascinating and culturally rich cities. Known as the "City of Cats" (*kucing* means cat in Malay), Kuching offers a unique blend of historical landmarks, natural beauty, and diverse cultural heritage.
One of the first things visitors notice is Kuching’s relaxed vibe, with the majestic Sarawak River cutting through the city, offering picturesque views from the waterfront. A leisurely stroll along the Kuching Waterfront is a must, where you’ll find old colonial buildings, the strikingly modern Darul Hana Bridge, and lively street markets. It’s a place where tradition meets modernity effortlessly.
History buffs will appreciate the Brooke family legacy, with landmarks like the Astana (the former residence of the White Rajahs), Fort Margherita, and the Sarawak Museum offering a glimpse into Sarawak’s past. The nearby Kuching Old Courthouse is another historical treasure, now serving as a hub for cultural events and exhibitions.
Kuching is also a gateway to some of Borneo’s most stunning natural wonders. A short drive from the city, you’ll find the famous Bako National Park, known for its wildlife, including the rare proboscis monkey, as well as lush rainforests and pristine beaches. Further afield, Semenggoh Nature Reserve offers a chance to see orangutans in their natural habitat.
Food lovers are in for a treat, too. The city is known for its culinary delights, including the famous Sarawak laksa and kolo mee. A visit to the vibrant local food markets will reveal an exciting variety of local produce and snacks.
Whether you’re exploring its history, enjoying the great outdoors, or savoring its food, Kuching promises an unforgettable experience.

#wheretogo
This is definitely my where to go list. Plus, it is just a stone from my stay. Under the scorching sun, I braved the weather and walk to Kuching Waterfront. It never fails to catch my attention when looking at the buildings along the 1kilo metre stretch.
You can spot hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, museum, entertainment areas and few historically significant buildings such as Dewan Undangan Negeri, Charles Brooke Gallery and many other.
Happy exploring!

It has been a very memorable kuching trip with my husband this time round. With the help of our helps who brought us around the cities, we have discovered many places. From the ancient temples to the famous street foods in kuching. WE have visited those places and have a taste of how the food was like. It was simply amazing. The trip to the temple was a very enriching one. My husband and I love the kuching Waterfront attraction. We went there during the night time and the view was amazing. We look forward to flying back to kuching again in the future to explore more attractions there and try out more local food there.

Chinese Barbeque specialist

Address - 50, Jln Padungan, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
Highlight - delicious lunch meal
My friend drove us to this famous kuching Chinese barbeque specialist restaurant. They served various kinds of meat. As a group dining together, we get to order more food and try it out. We ordered their pork meat, duck meat, and chicken meat. I was surprised that their duck meat was so tender and juicy. The duck skin was very crispy too. The chicken was quite juicy and tender too. The meat was cooked to perfection. The char siew was alright. It could have been tastier. All in all, the dishes were generally well cooked. It goes well with a plate of white rice. We all enjoyed our meal there. The place of the restaurant is very near to the Everrise at the Padungan branch.

Prayers Buddhist Temple
#malaysia
Address - Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
Highlight - Oldest Tua Pek Kong temple in kuching
On my day trip in kuching, my friends brought us to the oldest Tua Pek Kong temple in kuching. The temple is also called the Siew San Teng temple. The place is near the waterfront area and the Chinese museum. The temple is not very big, but we had a very fruitful tour inside the temple. There were many locals coming here to offer their prayers and worship. At the entrance are two deities guarding the temple to protect them against others. I also offer some prayers and make some donations to the temple. I will bring my friends here on my next kuching trip.

CHEAP, DELICIOUS & AESTHETIC
⛳️ Ezlive Cafe, Kuching
I like this cafe because it’s strategically located in the middle of the city. Nearest with our place to stay as well. And, this place not far from one of the famous place to visit in Kuching, which is Waterfront. So, if it is near to waterfront, you can visit Darul Hana Bridge too! Can walk if you don’t feel like want to take any ride. No worries! 😉
About food, I won’t explain more about this. Just one word, CHEAP! Even their Special Fried Noodle only cost you RM6, got prawn in it yea. I am not believe my eyes 😅. Many choices of food as well. Western food? Yes, they got it. Local? Of course they do have it.
Go and really recommended!

"Windward Village" Sabah, known for its beautiful beaches, is one of the "world's top three best sunset viewing spots". Sabah's evenings are filled with red sunsets all year round. Kuching, also known as the "Cat City", is marked by a cute white cat and is home to the world's first cat museum. At sunset, check out the Kuching Riverfront Park for a boat ride or a leisurely stroll. Langkawi is the largest group of islands in Malaysia. Kuching, Malaysia: A Culinary and Cultural Pa
"Kuching, Malaysia is a truly magical destination that exceeded all of my expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the city's vibrant culture and warm, welcoming people. One of the highlights of my trip was indulging in the local cuisine. The salted fish fried rice was absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of flavors and textures. I also had the pleasure of trying the famous kek lapis, a traditional layered cake that is a true work of art. The local soft ice cream was the cherry on top, it was creamy and refreshing, perfect to beat the heat.
But the culinary delights were just the beginning of my adventure in Kuching. Everywhere I looked, I was struck by the city's rich history and stunning natural beauty. From the charming colonial architecture to the lush green jungle, there was so much to see and explore. I particularly enjoyed strolling along the waterfront and watching the boats come and go.
Overall, my trip to Kuching was an unforgettable experience. I can't recommend it enough to anyone looking for an authentic and enriching travel experience. I hope you will have the opportunity to come and enjoy the same amazing experience in Kuching, Malaysia."

The hotel is near to a lot of places of interest. The staffs are very friendly and helpful and always wear a smile on their face. The location is great, just a few minutes walk from the riverfront. Value for my money. I strongly recommend this hotel to my friend & relative to stay here. Location is great. The hotel offers a cheap transfer to the airport in their shuttle bus. Staff are very nice and took care of any questions I had. Towel & Toiletries is Value for money. "Book online for a cheaper deal." as I was told by the receptionist. Indeed value for money. The bathroom is quite spacious and most importantly, clean. Basic toiletries (soap and shampoo) and towel are provided. There is no water heater. Hot water dispenser is at the lobby. They do provide durable paper cups if you bring in your own premix. No iron for individual rooms. It can be found on the 2nd floor where it is shared.

Amazing hometown Kuching Sarawak ❤️❤️
I was born in Sarawak. The biggest state in Malaysia. It have multiple culture, multiple languages and a kot of different foods. The people there were so nice and friendly. I brought my kid n my wife to there for the first time. It's quite amazing to see them enjoy the scenery and attractions. You guys should visit the Kuching Waterfront, especially during night time. It gave a different experience with plenty of activities to be done around. Food there was quite cheap and taste fingers licking good. I hope to bring my family again here. We spent 4 days 3 nights and still got plenty places around yet to visit. #spooktaculartrip #tripblazers

Kuching Waterfront - Kuching, Malaysia
Kuching Waterfront, spread across 900 metres along the southern bank of Sarawak River, is the most iconic place in Kuching. Kuching Waterfront was where the first white rajah, James Brooke, landed in Sarawak. The Sarawak government spent a huge amount of money reconstructing the waterfront and reclaiming parts of the riverside that used to be a docking area for villagers crossing the river by small boats.
Now Kuching Waterfront is a beautifully landscaped esplanade along the Sarawak River with some restaurants and entertainment areas. There are also some historical buildings, an observation tower and other sculptures in the area.

Sarawak Kuching Waterfront
The Kuching Waterfront, is the most popular gathering place in this capital city. The esplanade stretches for about 900 meter along the south bank of the Sarawak river. Dotted the length of it are food stalls, a restaurant, bistro and street food hawkers. Many colonial-era buildings seen here have since been re-purposed for modern use. They are the Chinese History Museum, Sarawak Steamship Building and Square Tower. Besides the old, there is a modern amphitheatre that showcases scheduled live entertainment.
During the daytime, the Waterfront offers excellent view of the north bank of the river. The Astana (governor’s mansion) and Fort Margherita stand out with their white exterior. The imposing State Assembly Building dominates the skyline. In addition, the Malay kampungs bring up a piece of Sarawak’s heritage that dates back to the rule of the Brooke family.
At night, the whole stretch of the esplanade comes alive. Buskers fill the air with ethnic and contemporary songs and music. To add to the vibrancy, the Darul Hana Musical fountain* comes on with its colourful display. #mytripvlog

Waterfront Hotel Kuching.. amazing location
#passionpassport
Kuching Waterfront Hotel is one of the most centrally located located in Kuching. The proximity of the hotel to the heritage old city and beautiful waterfront and the famous Jalan Atap, make it the ever popular hotel to stay in.
Located at 68 Jalan Abdul Haji Open, this four star hotel is just right at the doorstep of the tourist attraction of the old heritage city. Lots of places to explore within 10 minutes of walking distance.
The hotel is also attached to a shopping mall, which makes it even more convenient. The rooms are very spacious and comfy. Prices are reasonable, often can get good deals from trip.com. From the room, I can see the beauty of Kuching City and the amazing waterfront.
Hotel staff are very friendly and with excellent services. All in all, one of the best place to stay when you are in Kuching.

Kuching as in Cat , my Pet city
Do you find a lot of cats roaming around in the cat city of the world. In fact I am dreaming as my avatar to roam the city to look at all sorts of other occupants of the city. May be you can find cat women somewhere.
Kuching is one of my favourite city to live in. It is especially meaningful to introduce it to others in the days leading up to the Gawai Festival, which is the main celebration for the Dayak people in the state. almost all the Dayak ethnic celebrate the Gawai.
The waterfront front of Kuching is one of favourite place to visit in Kuching. It is right in the town centre and if you stay in Hilton Kuching, you will be immerse in the beauty of the Kuching river and the monument building across the river. Hence it was the hotel I often called Home when I was in The cat city.
Recently Kuching has her own beautiful twisted bridge linking both parts of the city. it is light up in amazing neon light during the night. Beautiful but unassuming.
Along the alley opposite the waterfront, there lies all the interesting shops such as antique shops, eateries, pubs and temples. Interesting there is a temple named GodTemple. Directly across the temple you can savour the famous Sarawak Laksa. Kuching version.
My all my, what a beautiful city and I am proud to be a Sarawakian. come, be among the cats in this wonderful place.

I have being here for many time but this is the best i ever being. Is my first time to try on the boat it just cost 4 MYR around 1 USD like that for round trip.
The uncle who is owner of the boat was really nice person, he told us he was doing this job for 42 YEARS! Starting the age of 20 at 1980.
Is a nice idea to have other type of view for the mother river and the Darul Hana Bridge that build next to "Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak" and " Astana" that is proud of Sarawakian.
