Searching for an Emerald Lake ⛵️
#hiddengems
There are 42 islands in Thailand's Ang Thong Marine National Park. Ko Mae Ko, or Mae Ko Island, is one of the best for kayaking as the waters surrounding it are calmer due to its shape. It's also on this island where you can find the Emerald Lake - a super hidden lagoon accessible only by a hike up (~20 minutes) to the viewpoint, and THEN a steep and slippery trek downwards. The lake, known as Talay Nai, is a beautiful turquoise and even glimmering sapphire under the sun, and at different angles. It was quite emotional, even, to enjoy such a view and feel so small in a vast and extensive planet.
The hike up was very manageable. Paths and steps were clear; plenty of railings and durable ropes to guide you. Proper shoes recommended for comfort.
Getting here is easy - many tour companies organize day trips to Ko Mae Ko from Koh Samui, and they're relatively affordable.
At Mae Ko, must-do is definitely kayaking. You can circle around small islets and get back to shore in less than 20 minutes. The sun might be glaring, but the calming waters and stunning limestone cliffs and rock formations will make the effort worth it.
If you're hungry, there's a bar/restaurant/souvenir shop (combined into 1) on the shore.
Overall, the Emerald Lake (or Blue Lagoon) is an exciting hidden gem located less than an hour's speedboat ride from Koh Samui. One can easily spend a day here, so come with plenty of thirst for adventure! Unforgettable experience ✨

The Blue Lagoon
Recommended itinerary for Koh Samui ~ Koh Mae island 🏝️ Koh Mae island is also known as the Mother Island. In addition to the beautiful white sandy beaches, the most special thing about this island is that there is an emerald lake in the mountains 😊 This lake is also called the Blue Lagoon because the lake water is sky blue and very clear. It sparkles under the sunlight and is very beautiful😍😍😍
There are two mountain roads to see the Blue Lagoon, but it is not difficult to get up. It only takes 10-15 minutes to get there, and the elderly can also go there.

Koh Mae Ko
Koh Mae Ko (Mae Ko Island) is located in Angthong National Marine Park. Most visitors or tourists prefer to rent a private boat to visit this island. In our case we booked from the internet and we went together with another group with a longtail boat.
It features the emerald lagoon surrounded by lush green mountain. I feel so relaxed in this place.

The Inner Sea at Mae Ko Island, Ang Thong National Marine Park.
Location: The Inner Sea at Mae Ko Island, Ang Thong National Marine Park
This spot is usually included in tours of Ang Thong National Marine Park. When you arrive at Mae Ko Island, you need to hike up to the viewpoint to see the Inner Sea. The water is very beautiful, and you can see coral from the viewpoint.
Note: Swimming is not allowed due to safety concerns and the depth of the water.
Location: Ang Thong, Ko Samui District, Surat Thani

Ko Mae Ko is like a paradise on earth
Ko Mae Ko, also known as Mother Island, is one of the 42 islands in Ang Thong Marine Park. To enjoy the best view, you need to climb the steep mountain road and go up to the observation deck on the top of the mountain. Even so, when you go up to the observation deck and see the beautiful scenery in front of you, you will feel that all the hard work is worth it! Emerald Lake is the most famous landmark of Ko Mae Ko. The emerald green lake water sparkles in the sunlight, giving a feeling of being in a fairyland! Looking down from the sky, you can also see the sea water gradually changing from blue to emerald green. The sea water is crystal clear, naturally pure, and seems to be unpolluted by any pollution. This paradise on earth, like a fairyland, makes people feel relaxed and happy!
