2025 Nozawaonsen Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in April)

This month, taking advantage of the skiing season, I also went skiing to join in the fun. I chose Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort, because compared to popular skiing places like Niseko, Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort is less crowded, convenient to travel, has a local atmosphere instead of being a resort, the single ski field is wide, beginner-friendly, and friendly to solo travellers. ❄❄❄❄❄ Convenient transportation: Get off at the Shinkansen Iiyama Station, and a direct bus will take you to the ski resort in 25 minutes. Delicious and comfortable: Nozawa has 13 public hot springs, and most guest houses also have their own hot springs, which are much needed after skiing; there are also enough restaurants, convenience stores in the town, bakeries, cafes, natural bars, etc. All living facilities are within walking distance: The town is at the foot of the ski resort, and it takes only 5 minutes to walk to the cable car entrance from the place of accommodation. It takes only 20-30 minutes to walk from one end of the village to the other, without the need for a car or relying on a shuttle bus. Cable car ticket (snow ticket): If you buy with a discount coupon, there are discounts of 50% and 20% respectively, and a 2-day pass can be used for 5500 yen. Equipment rental: There are many choices for renting equipment, the equipment in the ski resort is new and the price is pure board + shoes 4800 yen, and others can be added. Free shuttle of the ski resort: Nozawa Ski Resort has 3 main entrances, connected by a shuttle bus, remember that the return time is very important.

#japantrip Had a whale of a time here. Everyone is very friendly. Most of the shops have English speaking staff. Recommend trying the Basashi and Kuma meat (if you can find the shops!). Not many people know about them. The ski routes are well marked. Unfortunately the magic carpet was down so we can to trek up every time. The resort also had breath taking views of the mountain range in the distance. Truly an eye opening experience. The resort was easy to get to as well. Just take a train/shinkansen to Iiyama station, and from there, buy a ticket to Nozawaonsen via the Nozawaonsen liner from the vending machines. It would take you to the bottom of the resort, where you have to walk up to your accommodations. There is another vending machine at the Nozawaonsen bus stop so that you can purchase return tickets.

Founded in 2021, this new facility was just completed in 2022 I enjoyed tasting gin. It's interesting because the taste changes just by changing the way you drink it, whether on the rocks or mixed with soda! The tasting room tends to get crowded, especially in winter, so it's recommended to make a reservation. I happened to be able to enter without a reservation, but after a while, group customers started coming in one after another 🥹👍 And the whiskey barrels lined up all over the wall are impressive! A few photos from my magical time at the Nozawaonsen fire festival!!

📍Location: Nozawa Onsen Grand Hotel This trip, starting from Myoko Plateau, has been skiing for three days, then drove 45 minutes to Nozawa Onsen to try out the different snowy atmosphere. There is not only a beautiful ski resort, but also authentic Japanese hot spring culture, most importantly, when booking did not know January 15th was the Taoist God Fire Festival, no wonder the holiday high upgrade and room tight, fit really super lucky. On the last day, after skiing, I drove 1 hour back to Nagano Station, then took the 3-hour Shinkansen down to Nagoya. Before leaving, I had a bowl of hot soba noodles on the station platform, perfect ❤️. ✨ Hotel features The hotel is in a great location, not far from a ski resort or a spa street. Staying here in the winter is really enjoyable, chilling at night while soaking in the hot springs and looking at the snowy scenery! After foaming, the person is loose. The room type I booked has a separate bathroom, so it's okay not to like big baths. 🛎️ Day 1 – After skiing in Myoko Plateau straight down to Nozawa Onsen After three days of snow skiing in Myoko, it’s a 45-minute drive straight down to Nozawa Onsen, with beautiful snowy scenery along the way. After arriving at the hotel check-in, the first thing to do is go to the large bath to soak in a hot soup to wash away the fatigue. At night, I went out for a walk on the hot spring street. I didn't know that I thought I was in Australia. The whole town was full of foreigners. Anyway, walking around found a lot of bars that had to try local snacks such as onsen buns, nozawa vegetables and authentic hand-beaten soba noodles to warm up. 🛎️ Day 2 – Skiing & night fire festival is super shocking After breakfast at the hotel, we immediately left for Nozawa Ski Resort. The snow trails here are long enough, the terrain is rich, and you can still look at the entire hot spring street while slipping. In the afternoon, return to the hotel for several hot spring baths to relax your muscles and prepare for the most important event of the night, the Daozu God Fire Festival. After the fire festival started, the villagers rushed towards the wooden pagoda with torches. 42-year-old and 25-year-old "bad year men" were responsible for guarding the pagoda. The scene was super crazy! The blazing flames burned red into a patch of snow, the atmosphere was so high that even the foreign tourists next to it could see their mouths wide open! 🛎️ Day 3 – Nagano down to Nagoya, last supper After soaking in the hot springs, check out early in the morning for skiing, finish skiing, pack your bags, drive straight from the ski resort back to Nagano, then take the 3 hour train ride down to Nagoya. #2024 Travel Review **Nozawa Onsen** 2024 is coming to an end. I went to many places this year. One of the most memorable to me was Nozawa Onsen! Transportation: It can be reached by bus. Introduction: The hot springs here are very famous, and you can enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery while bathing, which makes people feel comfortable and relaxed.

I stayed in Nozawa Onsen for 3 days and 2 nights to go snowboarding. This area has many cafes and izakayas, and I felt that the most distinctive feature was that there were more foreigners than Japanese people. The town is old-fashioned Japanese, but the people living there are foreigners, so it's a bit of an unusual place. But it's fun. Every store I went to was always attended by foreigners, and some of the owners were foreigners. When I talked to a foreign store clerk, he said that he came on a working holiday and was working hard while looking forward to snowboarding. The town also had old-fashioned buildings and atmosphere, and the snow and scenery matched very well, making it very stylish. For me, the main attraction of Nozawa Onsen is being able to enjoy snowboarding and skiing, taking a bath in the hot springs, and having delicious food at a ryokan. If you have time, you won't get bored even if you visit cafes and restaurants other than the ryokan, so I felt that it was a tourist spot. There are a few free hot springs scattered around the city, so it's fun to explore them.
