Kasama Inari Shrine is the most popular first shrine visit in Ibaraki Prefecture. It is said that 3.5 million people visit every year, but in December there were few people and I was able to visit at a leisurely pace. Founded in the Asuka period, it is a prestigious shrine that is considered one of the three major Inari shrines in Japan, along with Fushimi Inari in Kyoto and Yutoku Inari in Saga. #springwander In Kasama City, azalea flowers are indispensable as a feature of spring. Kasama Azalea Park is a park that was born from the "Azalea One Stock Movement", an activity in which citizens brought and planted azaleas in order to increase the number of tourist attractions in the town. Currently, about 8,500 plants are planted in the garden at an altitude of 147m and 7ha, and from mid-April to mid-May, various varieties of azaleas bloom beautifully and delight people's eyes.

The shrine has a paid parking lot right next to it and another one about 5 minutes away. The omikuji (fortune slips) have numbers written on sticks. You draw from a case with the corresponding number. They also sell ofuda (talismans) and omamori (charms). I visited on a Saturday in mid-January, so it was moderately crowded, allowing for a leisurely visit. The torii gate is along the road and can be hard to see while walking, but it's easy to spot once you get closer. To take a photo of the torii gate, you need to do so from the opposite side of the road, which can be difficult when it's crowded.

Sainenji Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Inada, Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is a special head temple of the Jodo Shinshu sect. It is an independent temple. It is said that Shinran, the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect, began working on "Kyogyoshinsho" here and wrote the draft version. It is revered by Shinshu followers as a sacred place where the Jodo Shinshu sect was founded. On February 28, 1207 (March 28, 1207), Shinran, a disciple of Honen's Yoshimizu sect, was exiled during the Jogen persecution and sent to the provincial government office in Echigo Province. In November of the first year of the Kenryaku era (1211), he was pardoned. He remained in Echigo for about two and a half years after his pardon. In 1214, he was invited by Inada Kuro Yorishige, the lord of Inada in Hitachi Province, to build a hermitage in this place, which was called "Fubukidani," and it came to be called "Inada's Hermitage." He returned to Tokyo at around age 62 or 63. He preached in the eastern provinces for about 20 years. The addresses of his disciples were almost all within a 30km concentric circle centered on this hermitage, so it is believed that he preached from Inada as his base. From the area where the legends related to Shinran remain, it is believed that he preached widely from Kanto to Tohoku, focusing on the three provinces of Hitachi, Shimousa, and Shimotsuke. Kasama City, located in the western part of Ibaraki Prefecture This is where the recently created scenic tourist spot "Ishikiri Mountains" is located In fact, this area is an active Inada granite quarry At the entrance, an outdoor contemporary art sculpture made from the granite is on display Rising behind the sculpture is "Maeyama" This mountain is an old mine that has already ceased its function, and groundwater has accumulated in the remains of the mine, creating a lake This "lake not on the map" caused a big buzz on social media, and it quickly attracted attention (It appears on Google Maps, but it has not yet been updated on the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan map) Even though it is an artificially created mountain, The patterns and shapes of the quarried granite are truly unique, and it looks like a fortress or ancient ruins, giving it a very mysterious appearance. We went to Kasama as a family of four 🚗 I found a great lunch, so I'd like to introduce it to you. "Kuresontei" 20 minutes by car from Kasama Inari Shrine It's a little far from the tourist spots on the approach to the shrine, but if you drive a little along the nature-filled National Route 355, you'll see a magnificent log house. The interior of the restaurant has a warm, woody atmosphere, and the thoughtfulness of the staff is heartwarming. And above all, the taste is superb! A salad with a rich demi-glace sauce and plenty of local vegetables 🥗 The meat and fish dishes, including the gorgeous-looking red radish sauce, were great 🥹 For lunch, starting at 1,000 yen, it's a great value 😭 It's definitely one of the restaurants I'd like to visit again.
