【Izu Shimoda】Relax and indulge in hot springs at a retro-style inn.
Established in 1837🫧
Let us introduce 'Kanaya Ryokan,' a famous inn in Izu Shimoda known for its 'Sen-nin Buro' (Thousand-person Bath) at Kawauchi Onsen!!
This charming and nostalgic inn is truly wonderful🤍
This time, we stayed in the main building✨
All the rooms in the main building are built in the traditional Sukiya-zukuri style✨
The rooms are located past the front desk and the large communal bath, further inside the inn. The layout is like a maze, with stairs to climb up and down, making it feel like an exciting exploration🩶
The room even had a retro black telephone, adding to its nostalgic charm🤍
Of course, the baths were absolutely amazing🤍
I tried the 'Sen-nin Buro,' but personally found it quite crowded. Next time, I’d like to visit during a quieter weekday🥺

➸Tips
︎︎︎︎︎︎☑︎ Family baths available
The three different temperature options for the hot springs are fantastic
︎︎︎︎︎︎☑︎ Recommended time for mixed baths is after 10 PM
The baths are open 24 hours, so late-night or early-morning baths are also great options
︎︎︎︎︎︎☑︎ The women’s bath is spacious enough, so if mixed bathing isn’t for you, feel free to enjoy 'Manyo no Yu' (women’s bath)
︎︎︎︎︎︎☑︎ Guests can borrow as many towels as they need, so you can enjoy the baths multiple times
︎︎︎︎︎︎☑︎ The front desk closes at 9 PM, so it’s better to borrow towels in advance
Although towels are placed near the front desk, they were all gone by morning
