Kaikyokan is a 5-minute walk from Karato Market, famous for Shimonoseki's tourist fish market.
As a Shimonoseki City Aquarium, you can see various species of fish, centered around the region's specialty, pufferfish.
There are fish inside the cave-like interiors here and there, and the passages you pass through here and there are tunnel-like, so you can see fantastic schools of fish from all directions.
As expected of an aquarium, there are performances such as dolphin shows and penguin shows at different times,
and Kaikyokan is famous for having over 100 species of pufferfish, as it is a Shimonoseki City Aquarium. I was really surprised to see so many colorful pufferfish that I had never seen before.
Also, there is a penguin village here.
It is the largest penguin exhibition hall in Japan that recreates the wild environment,
and many different types of penguins live there, including emperor penguins, king penguins, and Humboldt penguins.
There is also an underwater tunnel under the penguin village, so you can see the penguins in more detail.
Please come visit at least once.
