Price per Person: $15 Rating: 4.5/5 I came across this quaint little place while exploring Joo chiat and was intrigued by the shop’s old housing aesthetics. I decided to try it as the recent reviews on google maps were all quite good. And I was not disappointed. I tried their signature cheeky bee hoon soup. The broth was very flavorful and rich, I drank every last drop. I then decided to order a second bowl as I was there with a friend so we shared. Our second bowl was the braised pork cheeky bee hoon dry. The noodles was very springy and had been infused with some delicious broth. The pork was also very tender and melted in my mouth. I also had a pink guava drink which was both refreshing and something I don’t see every day. I love the design on the shop where the shop owners have decorated with antiques from Singapore’s households in the 1980-2000, like the old HDB windows grills, the old sewing machines, old benches, old photos and report cards from schools etc. it was all very well put together to create a sense of nostalgia. The tables are well spaced apart and so you won’t be hearing your bright outs conversations. This shop is really a little hidden gem and I hope it won’t become too crowded the next time I visit. Eh, Braseiro Restaurant at Joo Chiat Road, the lamb merguez and steak was a real treat lah! The spices in the lamb merguez was spot on, it had a real kick to it and the lamb was so tender and juicy. And the steak, wow, it was cooked to perfection and so juicy, I could taste the quality of the beef. The sauces were a great addition too, it added a nice spicy kick to the dish. Overall, the ambience of the restaurant was great, the service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely recommend to my kakis to try the lamb merguez and steak if they haven't already! Visited Kings Cart Coffee Factory in Joo Chiat and had a fantastic experience. I tried their chicken rice tea, which was delicious and had a nice balance of savory and sweet flavors. The coffee was also great, with a rich and smooth taste. To finish off my meal, I had a pecan pastry which was the perfect sweet treat to end on. One of the things that really stood out to me was the decor of the cafe. They had a terracotta statue on display which added a unique and interesting touch to the overall atmosphere. Price per Person - SGD 12 Rating - 7.5/10 Out of all their banh mi, the Battered Crispy Fish Fillet with Honey Mustard Sauce was by far our favourite one. Lady at the counter was really nice and made a number of recommendations knowing it’s my first visit. she recommended a couple of items from each category but I was captivated by the smell of their banana cake that’s filling up the entire shop. They have a couple of benches within the shop and you can have your bakes in the shop. Would be lovely if they were able to add tables although it’s comfy as it is.

Joo Chiat is a quaint neighbourhood a little far-flung from the city centre, but definitely worth the ride to check out the pastel shophouses on Koon Seng Road and plenty of aesthetic cafes 🌈 We decided to visit @commonmancoffee and tried to skip the lunch crowd by arriving at around 1:40pm, but still had to wait for 2 tables 🥲 The sizable place was full of people both indoors and indoors with a never-ending queue (they don’t take reservations) 🫣 Prices were not cheap, but (almost) everything was damn delicious and the huge portions left us walking away super full 🤰 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 Found on the lunch menu served from 10am to 5pm, this was SO GOOD! Address: 218 East Coast Road We chanced upon this place while walking around Joo Chiat Area. The place is located along East Coast Road toward Joo Chiat road. They have different beans available for you to choose from. I love the pastry here too. Doughnut and Korvapuusti are my favourite. The croissants are great too! Another item I love here is their cold brew which you can stock up for those WFH days 😍 If you are a home brewer, you can also get the beans here as they are a local roaster who has won some Australia Coffee Award. Staff is friendly and this cafe is pet friendly too. There are outdoor sitting area too if you wish to. #musteat

Opened just last April, Tigerlily Patisserie was opened by a pastry chef who has prior working experience in Michelin starred restaurant overseas. This cafe is apparently quite popular too, with queues sometimes forming outside to enter. Lemon Basil Tart: citrusy and zesty with hints of basil that is not too overpowering in terms of the herbal taste, with tart pastry that is not too buttery nor hard. Forest Berry Taco: true to its name, it looks just like a taco but a dessert version, using chocolate wafers as the shells and filled with berries and chocolate cream. Interesting concept Pink Guava and Pear Cake: interesting taste of white chocolate on the outside, with a layer of crunchy pink guava and pear bits on the inside. Together with a biscuit base, it is not only pretty but taste good too. Matcha latte: pretty thick consistency and can taste the slight bitterness in the matcha powder. The desserts are plated in really pretty terrazzo plates and cups, in pastel colours. The cafe also has nature vibes with leaves painted on the walls. Do come here as early as possible, perhaps for an early breakfast snack, as the desserts are popular and sold in limited quantities, to avoid disappointment.

Upon entering the restaurant, an eye-catching and elaborate rustic floral display created by Windflower Florist stood to the left of the entrance to welcome us. According to the staff, the other floral decorations around the restaurant were also done by the same florist as part of their collaboration. At certain points, the restaurant got a tad noisy when many tables of people were talking. We ordered the hot chocolate, which tasted super legit. It was smooth, milky and chocolatey – so good that my husband got himself a second cup! For the main course, I had the beef cheek ragu linguine while my husband had the fish and chips. Pretty standard fare, was nice but not fantastic. My main could’ve used a bit more salt and pepper for flavour. Lastly, our dessert was a brownie with a scoop of ice cream. It had a unique feature of a charred brownie base, leaving a smoky roasted taste which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. However, it felt more like eating burnt bits to me, not appealing at all. Plus there were chunks of walnuts in it too (I rarely eat nuts), so I just spent a lot of time picking stuff out from my dessert – that wasn’t very fun. The only room open during our visit was Pangaea, an interactive adventure game that involved board game elements, role-play characters with specific abilities and heavy facilitation by a game master. The whole thing was a pretty new concept to us as we were used to being thrown into a room with a countdown timer to try and figure things out by ourselves. It was an entirely different experience, like playing a game with multiple possible endings that depended on the decisions we made. As we have come to expect, the puzzles there were well-designed, logical and illuminating (once we figured them out!). I would consider these puzzles to be of a medium level of difficulty. There were a number of carnival-style, kid-friendly games (probably to cater to families with kids) instead of the usual code-deciphering, lock-breaking sort, but we found them rather entertaining nonetheless. No scary elements at all, which is perfect for me. If you’re planning on wearing a dress or skirt, chuck that notion aside and be prepared for some mild physical and flexibility demands towards the end of the experience! After we completed the game, we were ushered to a nice, chill lounge space to spend the next 30min playing board games or console games. This came with our booking as part of the package. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a wide selection of games to offer. Not sure if they’re planning to flesh out this space a bit more as it did feel quite sparse and underdeveloped. Situated along the streets of Joo Chiat, you will find this gem alongside many other “old school” stores of the shophouses. Inside the shop, they are mainly selling furnitures made of rattan material which reminded me of the days where my grandparents house is filled with all of these furnitures. Personally, im not a collector or any knowledge of the quality/value of the products so I will not comment much about this. But definitely, I will recommend everyone to come by visit this shop to learn more about the history and culture of Singapore. To be honest, this was the first time I felt specialty coffee was worth the price. I was pleasantly surprised by both the taste and presentation. they served it almost as if we were at a cocktail bar. finishing off the drink with garnishes and flair. We got the Bees knees and a comfort warm white coffee. For the Bees knees, they topped it off with fresh honeycomb and was served beautifully with a clear cube ice. the latte art for the white was nice as well. taste wise it was really quite unique with fresh fruity tastes and notes. #hiddengems While Joo Chiat is iconic in Singapore for its Peranakan architecture and colourful murals, there are hidden cafes waiting to be discovered such as ToMo, and Kōhī Roastery & Coffee Bar. These cafes tend to close by 6pm. Hence, do go early for breakfast or tea time. We visited ToMo, which means ‘friends’ in Japanese and indeed it provides a minimalistic ambience to chill out with friends over coffee. These shop houses are well preserved and they are both eye catching and beautiful. You can learn more about the peranankan culture here. You will be surprised to see a mix of modernity here too, as you see street art or wall murals on these historic buildings. It was a pleasant walk and a great mix of old and new here. Many restaurants and cafes have popped out in this area, so take a walk, grab some food and drinks and absorb some good old vibes at Joo chiat street.

That's the kind of nasi lemak that you get from Dickson Nasi Lemak. This shop/cozy cafe is famous for this dish and they specialize in it. There are no huge tables or chairs in this cafe. Justa table top and it's a take away or stand and eat concept. It's simple and fuss free just like their menu. Do not forget to eat with their sweet sambal chili too, it makes everything taste even better!
