#Travel itinerary I visited Yeliu & Jiufen on the outskirts of Taipei First of all, Yeliu is said to have been eroded by the sea tide~~ But I went in December and it was so hot!! It's been over twenty years since I last visited Jiufen. I was surprised to find that this mountain town is still bustling and the shops are as familiar as ever! How can you miss the joy of wandering through the alleys in this charming mountain town of Taipei? The narrow streets of the old town are filled with a variety of snack shops and craft stores. Walking along the street, you must try the handmade taro balls and buy the famous Alan's grass cakes... these are all childhood memories! Continuing forward, you will reach Jiufen's most iconic landmark - Amei Teahouse. This is probably one of the most representative landmarks of Jiufen. The red lanterns hanging on the wooden buildings make you feel like you've stepped into a scene from Hayao Miyazaki's 'Spirited Away'. As the lanterns on the street light up one by one, the entire mountain town takes on a more mysterious feel. The café occupies two floors, each with a distinct seating arrangement. The first floor has limited seating, with only one booth table by the window that fits two people. The rest of the seats on this level do not have a direct view, making them less ideal for those hoping to take in the scenery. For the best experience, the second floor is the place to be. This area follows a Japanese-inspired layout, where guests sit on bamboo cushions at low tables, cross-legged in a tatami-style setting. Before entering, shoes must be removed, adding to the cozy and intimate atmosphere. If you stay in Jiufen, you can visit when there is nobody and the shops are closed. The atmosphere is quite different then. This narrow alleyway is filled with local shops and souvenirs along the way making it a very popular spot for tourists to discover Jiufen. You will find local delicacies and gift shops. Because the alley is very small, be prepared for it to be quite crowded every time of the day. It will lead you to Amei Teahouse and other famous places in Jiufen.

Jiu Fen old street used to be known as the spirited away animation. Many say that Ah Mei tea house looks like the bath house in that animation and many claimed it was inspired by Jiu Fen old street. However Miyazaki (the author) debunkers the rumours. It has a lot of ‘No Face’ character in most of the souvenirs shop. However this time I saw very little of it. Nevertheless, it still worth to visit, it still giving ghibi vibes. The nearby mountains also very nice place to hike for the sunset. Both the mango jelly and lychee jelly are not too sweet, making them a good choice for a post-meal treat. Each piece is individually wrapped, which is nice. The size is not small, and it comes with a separate spoon. 2️⃣ Misty Nougat Crackers Jiufen Branch (米詩堤甜點王國) There are two types of boxes: small and large. The large box contains 25 nougat crackers, while the small box contains 15. 3️⃣ Xing Fu Tang Jiufen Xing Fu Tang is a famous bubble tea shop in Taiwan. Fortunately, there is a Xing Fu Tang at the entrance of Jiufen, so I tried a cup. Normally, it costs 100 TWD, but in Jiufen, it's a bit cheaper at 90 TWD.

#2024wish Jiufen Old Street was one of the most beautiful places I went to in Taiwan. The inspiration for the world-famous Spirited Away anime comes from this place, which is quite crowded and interesting. I went for a day trip from Taipei by train. Transportation is not very difficult, I arrived in 1 hour and 15 minutes. 🚞 When I came here, I discovered it everywhere. You can taste famous Taiwanese street food in every corner you walk. I especially recommend you to taste different famous teas. You can also watch the sea view from most places. I spent the whole day without getting bored. Talk a walk down Jiufen Old Street at night, and you will be memerised by its beautiful decorations and architecture. The main attraction in Jiufen at night will be the A-Mei Teahouse. Where locals and tourists will flock to, to take pictures and appreciate its beautiful structure. Almost everywhere is decorated with red lanterns, quite beautiful I would recommend dining in at the teahouse for a better view and also good food. It is not easy to get a table during nighttime, so be early or make a reservation to avoid disappointment. It's not really accessible as there are stairs everywhere. Jiufen Old Street should be a must-visit for visitors to Taipei. The area was once a gold mining town but now is more famous for its teahouses and scenic views of the mountains and sea. It also apparently inspired the Japanese movie Spirited Away, so there are lots of shops selling Studio Ghibli souvenirs.
