This is not Switzerland! This is Peacock Mountain, the last secret place in Yunnan...|||Peacock Mountain is located at the border of Gongshan County and Deqin County, about 30 km south of Kawagebo Peak. The mountain is shaped like a pyramid, and looks like a peacock spreading its wings from afar, hence the name. It is also known as "Little Switzerland of Yunnan" for its rich and beautiful scenery. The mountain is shrouded in mist and covered in snow, with a thick layer of snow up to 3 meters deep covering the mountain like a thick quilt. Colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind, creating a stunning and magnificent view like a fairyland.
1️⃣How to get there?
▪️Peacock Mountain is located on the Deqin-Gongshan Highway, and is only accessible by car. There are few tours available. You can drive from Deqin County, Weixi County, Gongshan County, or Bingzhongluo. You can drive directly to the foot of the mountain. I drove a sedan, which was barely passable when there was no landslide. I recommend driving an SUV or off-road vehicle.
▪️Navigate to Peacock Mountain Tunnel, and do not enter the tunnel when you reach the entrance! Take the small road next to it to go up the mountain. Or navigate to "Peacock Mountain" (the peak) on Amap.
▪️The Deqin-Gongshan Highway is not easy to drive on, and is prone to landslides during the rainy season and snow and ice in winter.
▪️I recommend driving there if it is on your way. If it is not on your way, it will take at least 6 hours to drive round-trip from any of the four places mentioned above, and there is nothing else to do nearby. Please consider carefully.
2️⃣What to do?
▪️Hiking. The hiking distance is short, about 3 km round-trip, with little elevation gain. The average altitude is about 3,800 meters, and the highest altitude is close to 4,000 meters.
▪️Camping. There are many places to camp, and many locals go there for picnics.
▪️Photography. The mountain is really beautiful.
