[2025 Jekyll Island Attraction] Travel Guide for Jekyll Island Historic District (Updated May)

Jekyll Island has always been designated for the super rich from the beginning of the founding of the United States.  When General James Oglethorpe settled the colony of Georgia in 1733, he soon after claimed and named Jekyll Island in honor of his friend and financier, Sir Joseph Jekyll from England. The island had been previously known as "Ospo", meaning island of the whales, coined by the native Americans who recreated on the island for fishing and hunting. #jekyllisland. #tripaway Don’t go tho the Jekyll Island 4-H Camp! it sucks. If you are in a group that is going there, RUN! The island is great, I’m talking about the 4-H camp. The camp schools go to. You have no freedom, the food sucks, the beds are less comfortable than a bed of nails. RUNIF YOUR GOING HERE!!!! #tripaway

#tripaway A nice quite island on the Georgia coast. We went in the winter, and burr it was cold. We didn’t do much swimming in the ocean. There are some dead trees that are fun to climb around on. I would come here for a relaxing time of fun and enjoyable time! Come on over to a great beach! #tripaway
