After a 12 hour long bus journey through the highways of Rajasthan, I found myself standing in Jaisalmer. Known as the 'Golden City of India', Jaisalmer is a small city in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, right in the heart of the Thar Desert. Standing on a ridge of yellow sandstone, this city is crowned by the ancient Jaisalmer Fort, the one I grew up knowing as 'Sonar Kella'. Despite the searing heat, the vibrant colors of the city would cause phosphenes in your eyes as the magnificent fort seem to glow like a beacon. As you would walk through the narrow, dusty alleys of the Sonar Killa, the lively energy of the people around you would lift your spirits puting a big damn smile on your face. 🏰 The haveli (mansion) was built in 1805 by the Patwas (a wealthy family) and took about 55 years to complete. It is a combination of five different havelis, each with its own unique quality. The family still lives in some parts of the haveli which are excluded from tourist access. 📍 Location - It is within walking distance from the Jaisalmer fort, which is one of the main attractions of Jaisalmer and located in the heart of the city of Jaisalmer. It is quite accessible through public or private transport. Facilities were average, as we had to ask to the reception for a few stuff for the bathrooms, but all the staffs were really good and well-behaved. ⚡️Highlights - The poolside view was gorgeous. t was just an amazing trip at the year end. All arrangements of camp, jeep safari, camel safari, food, lights, buffet were phenomenal. Their hospitality was really good. Only thing you should have some extra blankets, ask for it, they will provide it for sure. We didn't do that and suffered a little due to chilling wind at the night. Loved it. Recently went to Jaislamer to explore more about traditional culture and stuff. I bought this Jaisalmer Sightseeing tour from Thrillophilia and my overall trip was amazing and wonderful. Thrillophilia's team was amazing with all the arrangements. Kuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. Established around the 13th century, it was once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. It was abandoned by the early 19th century for unknown reasons, possibly because of dwindling water supply, or as a local legend claims, because of the atrocities by the Jaisalmer State's minister Salim Singh. A 2017 study suggests that Kuldhara and other neighbouring villages were abandoned because of an earthquake. This village was once inhibited by the wealthiest Brahmins of North India. People who migrated from Kuldhara have settled in different parts of India but the majority of people are living in Sirmaur of Himachal Pradesh. Nathmal Ki Haveli was built by two Muslim jeweller brothers not stone carvers on the order of the then prime minister. The brothers started working on the opposite sides of the building which lead to a similar but non identical left and right side. Apart from its extraordinary outer carvings, this haveli is known for its beautiful interiors filled with paintings and equipped with modern facilities. An amalgamation of Islamic and Rajputana architecture, Nathmal Ki Haveli is well justified as being one of the most beautiful haveli in Jaisalmer. #givethanks

An abandoned ghost town, Kuldhara was once a prosperous town occupied by Paliwal Brahmins. The reasons for why a whole city was abandoned within a night is not clear but the popular belief holds the then state minister Salim Singh responsible for the same. The minister wanted to marry the village chief’s daughter and therefore delivered an ultimatum to the village chief to accept his demands or let the whole community face dire consequences. Rather than giving in to the minister’s demands, the whole village decided to move away. Before leaving, they cursed this place to never have any kind of human settlement and this has been proven true to this date. Right in the middles of the Thar Desert, the beautiful and remarkable Kiradu Temples are situated. The conglomeration includes five temples of which the temple of Someshwara leads the line. The temples are close to 1500 years old which make them even more special. The details and the construction of the temples leave everyone spell bound and awe struck. Similar to the Khajuraho, the Kiradu temples have erotic statues carved on it. I went to a castle in the center of Jaisalmer. It felt like a desert castle, with yellow walls and buildings with winding roads that continued upwards. This was my favorite spot during my 14-day stay in India. The surrounding streets were full of life, and there were many dogs and cows, but they were peaceful. When I bought clothes at the clothing store, they gave me free chai. There was also a store that would tailor shirts for cheap, so if you have the time, you could ask them to do it. They could be tailored for you the next day, and it cost about 300 yen. I went on a desert tour in Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is famous as a desert city, so we went to a desert camp! After a 1.5-hour car ride from the city of Jaisalmer, we changed to camels and rode through the desert. After that, we moved to a campsite, ate dinner, and laid our beds in the desert to sleep. At night, the sky was full of stars, a must-see! In the morning, we had breakfast and were sent straight to the hotel.
