Izuhara Shrine, where Koreans are not allowed to enter
#2024WishEvent
The shrine located on Mt. Shimizu was a place for fishermen. When you pass the two torii gates and climb the stairs on both sides, you will see a shrine surrounded by quiet trees. If you climb the stairs on the left, you will see buildings that worship various gods, and among them, the shrine that worships Empress Jingu is famous. There are three stairs in total in this shrine, and the leftmost stairs are said to worship the god that the emperor walks, the center stairs are said to worship the god that the emperor walks, and the rightmost stairs are said to worship the god that the common people walks.
This shrine is also a place that Koreans dislike because it is related to the Imjin War. Before Toyotomi Hideyoshi unified Japan in 1590, each region was ruled by a samurai chief who held power. Toyotomi Hideyoshi tried to build a castle on Tsushima Island, but he could not do it due to the opposition of the chief. Tsushima Island was especially close to the Korean Peninsula, so the chief chief who held an official position in the Joseon Dynasty ruled Tsushima Island. Toyotomi Hideyoshi chose the Tsushima Island governor as the governor by forcing a political marriage with the daughter of the governor, Konika Maria.
After that, Tsushima Island governor So Yoshitoshi was placed at the forefront, and after the Imjin War ended and Toyotomi Hideyoshi died, the era of Tokugawa Ieyasu began. During this process, Konishi Yukinaga, who had been fighting Tokugawa Ieyasu, was defeated and killed. At this time, Tsushima Island governor So Yoshitoshi divorced Konika Maria, the daughter of Konishi Yukinaga, and sent her to Nagasaki for the safety of the Tsushima Island residents. After that, when rumors spread that the ghost of Konika Maria, the daughter of Konishi Yukinaga, was haunting Tsushima Island, a shrine was built for Konika Maria, the deceased wife of So Yoshitoshi, and her son, So Yoshinari, and a memorial service was held. To the left of the Hachiban-gu Shrine located in Izuhara City, Tsushima Island, is the shrine of Konika Maria, known as the Golden Palace Shrine. The shrine is not large or grandiose, but is built serenely, with stone steps and vines, moss and fallen leaves adding to the atmosphere.
