[Aomori Prefecture/Iwakisan Shrine] A shrine where you can see the sacred mountain of Tsugaru faith up close
Iwakisan Shrine, whose deity is Mt. Iwaki, also known as Tsugaru Fuji
At an altitude of 1,625m, it was a mountain of faith for Tsugaru farmers that has been watching over Tsugaru since ancient times.
It is an independent peak and well-balanced, and although I have had the opportunity to see many mountains, I personally thought this was a very beautiful mountain.
When you arrive at the shrine, its beauty is even more apparent, as Mt. Iwaki can be seen straight from the approach.
As you proceed along the approach, admiring its dynamic form.
It is in my top three favorite approach paths.
By the way, the remaining two recommended approaches are:
・Togakushi Shrine Okumiya (Nagano Prefecture)
・Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine (Saitama Prefecture)
Other than the mountain, the things that catch your eye in the precincts are
◉ Upside-down lion dogs
◉ Chozuya (purification fountain)
◉ Tower gate
◉ Golden dragon in the main hall
If you count them all, there is no end to it...
I was able to experience a wonderful shrine and its deity!
As you would expect from the Ichinomiya of Tsugaru Province.

❥❥History
The shrine was first built on the summit of Mt. Iwaki in 780 (the 11th year of the Houki era).
In 800 (the 19th year of the Enryaku era), Sakanoue no Tamuramaro rebuilt the shrine. This was made the inner shrine, and a separate Oriinomiya was built in a village at the foot of the mountain.
In 1091 (the 5th year of the Kanji era), Oriinomiya was transferred to its current location under a trust.
During the Edo period, large-scale construction was carried out by successive lords of the Tsugaru domain.
