Must-Stay Hotel in Nantong!!!
InterContinental Nantong: A Hidden Gem for Family Getaways in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai Region
I recently experienced InterContinental Nantong, which opened in mid-2016. The hotel is well-maintained and is an excellent choice for family trips in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region.
💗Other Tips: Communication, Surroundings, and Service Details
I contacted the hotel via email two days in advance. While they couldn't upgrade me three tiers to the Premier Room, they offered a two-tier upgrade to either an Executive Deluxe River View Room or a Deluxe Corner River View Room - I chose the latter. Regular check-in is at 2 PM, with late check-out available until 2 PM the next day. Parking is free. Only one drink voucher was provided for two guests. Welcome fruits were delivered later, offering good variety and generous portions. The minibar isn't complimentary, but it's acceptable. The hotel is well-staffed, with seamless service from concierge to front desk - polite and enthusiastic, making guests feel welcome. Located in Chongchuan District of Nantong, the hotel enjoys a prime location with abundant nearby attractions. The Riverside Park is within walking distance, and Wolf Mountain, Nantong Botanical Garden, Five Mountains Forest Park, and Hao River are all nearby. Star Light Yao Shopping Mall and Nantong CBD Dayou Jing Mall are also close by. During an evening boat ride on Hao River, the boatman's stories about Nantong's history were fascinating - turns out Nantong has rivers, lakes, seas, and mountains, with rich cultural heritage. First-time guests should note that for those staying on the west side, the lobby is on the second floor - don't take the elevator directly to the first floor, or you'll get lost looking for the lobby.
🏘️Room Type/Layout: Spacious and Comfortable with Unique Views
Though not yet an Ambassador member during check-in, the front desk thoughtfully offered a River View Suite and a Deluxe River View Room for my family. My Deluxe Corner River View Room, although lacking a capsule coffee machine and being on the lower fifth floor, featured an extra window in the bedroom. I could enjoy tea on the sofa while admiring views of Wolf Mountain, Yangtze River, the hotel's lake, and partial city views. The spacious room was very comfortable, with lush greenery outside and beautiful mountain and river views. The bathroom even offers scenic views while bathing, and innovatively features a TV screen in the glass.
🛌Amenities/Facilities: Well-equipped and Well-maintained
Spanning 150,000 square meters, the hotel features abundant greenery with seasonal displays of ginkgo, red maple, osmanthus, and metasequoia trees. Swans, peacocks, and turkeys roam freely by the lake, creating a tranquil garden atmosphere in the city. There are plenty of recreational facilities, including a small outdoor playground, indoor play area (with ball pit and trampoline), and a mini zoo. With nine different themed family rooms, it's perfect for family vacations. While the pool doesn't have a spa tub, it does have a regularly operating sauna room, with clean water and good management. The hotel's gym, restaurants, and other facilities are complete. Breakfast buffet is served at XIJI All Day Dining on the first floor, offering a rich selection of Chinese and Western dishes.
🧹Sound Insulation/Cleanliness: Quiet and Clean, Pleasant Environment
Excellent sound insulation ensures almost no external noise reaches the rooms, allowing for peaceful rest. Cleanliness is well maintained, with spotless rooms and clean public areas, and well-maintained facilities.
🍱Dining Experience: Diverse and Distinctive
The breakfast buffet offers both Western and Chinese options, though the flavors are standard without particularly memorable highlights. The lounge afternoon tea serves a complete set whether for one or two people, with a self-service area offering fruits and soft drinks. The lounge's Happy Hour features a wide selection of drinks, eight hot dishes, chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, and fried rice (thoughtfully including a main course).
InterContinental Nantong excels in family facilities, views, and service. Though somewhat conservative with room upgrades, it doesn't affect the overall stay experience. Highly recommended for those planning a getaway in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai region, especially families.
