Wild Wild North - Inner Mongolia
Definitely a trip for the more adventurous traveler.
Inner Mongolia was an experience and a half. camping in the desert, riding horses, seeing ancient inner Mongolian rituals, and eating ALOT of Lamb.
Two cities to definitely check out would be Baotou and Hohhot. Baotou has a grassland park right in the center of the city and a lot of good hotpot restaurants. Hohhot is a little bigger with a large Muslim population. you can find great halal food in the area and see some Islamic inspired architecture. a lot of dried meats
🐎 Inner Mongolia is known for its horses and if you go visit the many grassland areas you might be able to catch a horse show or even ride one yourself
🍲 The food is amazing. abundant in lamb and milk products, it might be alittle hard to find vegetarian options, but they do exists.
🐫 The grasslands are amazing. you get to sleep in a yurt and see the night sky and all the stars without any glare from city light.
👘 Classical Mongolian Dancing is also a must see. Very well choreographed dance moves combined with balancing objects on their heads, the dancers make it look easy. but it probably took a long time to master. 🙂
Getting There - Plane and rented keep to the grasslands
Attractions - Horse show, Grasslands, Traditional Mongolian Dancing
Hotels - Grassland Yurt
Food & Restaurants - Lamb Hotpot, Milk Tea, Lamb BBQ

In Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, there is a Tibetan Buddhist temple called Dazhao Temple. When you first heard of Dazhao Temple, you will feel a little doubt, just because there is also a Jokhang Temple in Lhasa in the far west. "Call" and "Zhao" have the same pronunciation, but the meaning is different. "Call" is the meaning of Tibetan temples, and "Zhao" is the meaning of "Sakyamuni Buddha". Da Zhao Temple, the Han name was originally "Hongci Temple", later changed to "Woliang Temple", and because the temple is dedicated to a silver Buddha, also known as "Silver Buddha Temple." "Small is hidden in the mountains, and it is hidden in the city." Most of the temples I have seen are in the mountains, and the temple is an exception, located in the city centre of Hohhot. The so-called big hidden
Sky..
Dazhao Wuliang Temple
Dazhao Temple is a large Tibetan Buddhism monastery in the southern part of Yuquan District, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China, belonging to the Gelug school (Yellow Sect). The word 'Dazhao' in its name means 'temple' in Tibetan. Originally named 'Hongci Temple', it was later changed to 'Wuliang Temple'. It is also known as 'Silver Buddha Temple' because it houses a silver Buddha statue. Dazhao Temple is the earliest Gelug monastery built in Hohhot and has a wide-ranging influence in the Mongolian region.
It was founded by Altan Khan, the leader of the Tumed Mongol tribe during the Ming Dynasty, in the seventh year of the Wanli era (1579 AD). Completed in 1580, it is the earliest Lamaist monastery built in Hohhot and is also one of the few Mongolian temples without a living Buddha. Because Emperor Kangxi once stayed here for several days, to show respect for the emperor, the monks abolished the reincarnation system for the living Buddha.
Dazhao is not only a Buddhist holy site but also a famous tourist destination known both in China and abroad. The splendid temple architecture, precious cultural relics and artworks, as well as the mysterious Cham dance and Buddhist music, constitute the unique 'Temple Culture' of Dazhao.

Hohhot | Unique Experience, Recommended for You Planning to Visit Dazhao Temple in June!
| Unique Experience, Recommended for You Planning to Visit Dazhao Temple in June! 🔥The incense at Dazhao Wuliang Temple in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, is really booming! If you happen to pass by here like me, be sure to visit this Tibetan Buddhist temple beyond the Great Wall!
📍Dazhao Wuliang Temple on Alatan Khan Square |
Dazhao Temple in Hohhot is located on Alatan Khan Square in the city center. This shows the great historical significance of Dazhao Temple in Hohhot. Alatan Khan is the founder of Hohhot, so the square in front of Dazhao is also called Alatan Square.
🏯The Ancient Architecture of Dazhao Temple | 4A Scenic Area
Dazhao Temple is a Han-Tibetan style Gelug Buddhist temple that has been repaired several times, reflecting the complex relationship between the Manchu, Mongolian, and Han peoples. Therefore, the architecture within the temple includes the interlaced eaves of royal buildings with glazed tiles, as well as the traditional features of Tibetan Buddhism, and it also integrates the nomadic culture of the Mongols beyond the Great Wall.
🍀Inside the main hall, the Mahavira Hall, there is a silver Buddha, which is the main Buddha of Dazhao Wuliang Temple. Photography is not allowed inside the hall, but you can get a stamp.
The layout of the entire temple is very complete, including the mountain gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, as well as the Nine-Room Hall and the Sutra Collection Pavilion.
🌼Unique Decorations Inside Dazhao Temple |
➰Thangkas, prayer flags, vajra knots, prayer wheels, and gesang flowers, all of which are characteristic of Tibetan Buddhist temples.
➰In front of the mountain gate, there is a unique horse sculpture, symbolizing the important meaning of 'horse hooves striking the ground, springs gushing forth.'
➰Inscriptions in Manchu, Mongolian, and Han languages are mixed throughout.
➰The plaques of the main hall and side halls are very much worth admiring.
➰Golden discs, the round golden discs on Tibetan-style buildings symbolize the sun, and are found in Tibetan Buddhist temples across the country, including many at Dazhao Temple.
➰White pama grass, a special Tibetan building material, last seen at the Potala Palace, and now at Dazhao Temple.
✅Experiences Available at Dazhao Temple |
〰-Listening to chanting, which is very worthwhile and solemn, located in the main hall.
〰-Requesting prayer beads, Dazhao Temple allows for the requesting of prayer beads, and they can be consecrated.
〰-Turning prayer wheels, which are on both sides of the main hall.
〰-Burning incense, there is a specific process for requesting and offering incense, available in the shops on both sides as you enter.
〰-Fortune telling, which is done in the main hall, with fortune interpretation in the Sutra Collection Pavilion.
〰-Travel photography, there are many travel photography shops at the entrance of Dazhao Temple, which are legitimate stores. I personally recommend wearing the 'tall hat' style, which looks more solemn in front of the Shakyamuni Eight Stupas at the entrance of Dazhao Temple, and also makes for great photos.

In the crowded Da Zhao Temple, how can I take a portrait of a Mongolian princess
My trips can only be on holidays, and I always can't avoid the crowded people. However, facing the crowded scenic spots, I can also take a portrait with a sense of exclusivity. This time at the Da Zhao Temple scenic spot in Hohhot, I took a life photo of the Mongolian princess again.
✅ Step one: Rent a costume
Near the Ming and Qing Street outside the Da Zhao Temple, there are many costume rental shops with a variety of styles, including Mongolian robes and Tibetan costumes, which are beautifully made, with styles for spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
You can ask several shops to find one with good value for money. I rented a Mongolian dress with green edges for 100 yuan for two hours including makeup, which is very cost-effective. The dress I chose was brighter with green edges, and the hairstyle and makeup were also very ethnic.
✅ Step two: Shooting in the scenic area
If you can take photos yourself, you don't need to spend money on a photographer. To take a portrait in a crowded scenic area, just pay attention to the following points:
▫️ Take close-ups
The big scenes in front of the palace are crowded with people, no matter how you take the photo, you can't avoid the crowd, so it's better to take more close-ups. The makeup of the Mongolian princess also highlights the facial makeup and hair accessories, which are very suitable for taking close-ups of the face.
The Da Zhao Temple is exquisite everywhere, even the corners are not inferior, so it is very easy to find backgrounds for close-ups in the Da Zhao Temple, such as walls, columns, corridors, prayer wheels, prayer flags, etc., all of which are very characteristic.
▫️ Shoot from a low angle
Since the ground is full of people, shoot from a low angle to avoid the crowd. The architecture of the Da Zhao Temple is like a work of art, with richly colored glazed tiles, and colorful prayer flags fluttering, which are very suitable for low-angle shots. The photographer needs to squat down, and the model leans forward and looks down slightly to take a photo of the person with the building.
▫️ Use height difference
Standing on the steps, you can avoid the crowd on the ground behind you, and you can also take a photo of the person with the tall building.
▫️ Be patient and wait
The more effort you put in earlier, the less trouble you'll have later. When there are people around but not too many, be patient and wait, keep the pose and camera position unchanged, and you will always find that moment when there are no people, and press the shutter.
✅ Step three: Retouching
Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, there will still be a few people in the photo. By retouching, you can easily remove them with tools like the clone stamp, and the exclusive Mongolian princess portrait is completed.

Hohhot 3 Days 2 Nights Guide | Lazy Person's Free Travel Guide get
Hohhot's weather is so nice that a casual snapshot is very healing.
➡️What can you do in Hohhot city area?
This time I didn't go to the grasslands, as the grass hasn't grown in April, so I mainly wandered around the city area for two days~
1⃣️Dazhao Temple: Recommended level🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Pictures 1 to 8
The ticket is 35 per person, we didn't make a reservation and just scanned the code to buy it at the temple entrance~
The temple is very large, with a visiting time of one hour, it has very large Buddha statues and buildings, very characteristic of Mongolia, and the photos look great~
Mongolian portrait photography📷: This time I took one at a photo studio, 299 per person, including makeup and clothes, photography, thirty negatives and eight retouched photos
☑️Photography experience: The service attitude is very good, I am very satisfied with the makeup! I wish I could weld the cloud decoration onto my face haha, the photographer will tell you a lot of movements that suit you👋☑️❤️
2⃣️Baohantan Pagoda: Recommended level🌟🌟🌟🌟
Free admission🆓
The pagoda is really beautiful when the lights are on at night! There is a pair of eyes on the tower that feels very mysterious, and when I got there, it was already night, after taking photos you can walk around the tower three times to pray for peace~
3⃣️Xilitu Zhao: Recommended level🌟🌟🌟
The ticket is 25 per person, not very cost-effective
There are a lot of pigeons at the entrance that are very photogenic! The temple is relatively small, and you can quickly walk around it, there is also a tower inside that looks very good, when there is sunlight it feels like a golden shining pagoda!
4⃣️Qingzhen Mosque: Recommended level🌟🌟🌟🌟
Free admission🆓
The temple has a great vibe, when the wind blows the ribbons fluttering everywhere it's really healing! But it's also a bit small and you can finish visiting soon~
➡️What can you eat in Hohhot city area?
This time I mainly ate at two restaurants, neither of which was a disappointment!
1⃣️Ice-cooked lamb: Recommended level🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Originally we went to Ze Cheng which always requires queuing, and the service attitude was not good so we ran to another one. It turned out to be quite delicious!
There are group purchase meal vouchers, we bought a double set for 129, and we were very full!
The lamb is very fresh, without any off-flavor~
2⃣️De Shun Yuan: Recommended level🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The average price of this restaurant is 30 per person, super cheap
We ordered a lamb offal soup and shaomai
The lamb shaomai is so delicious! Fresh and juicy, as a local Cantonese, I really love it, no gamey taste~
➡️Where can you stay in Hohhot city area?
This time we stayed at the four-star Wan Hao Hotel, four hundred a night, the environment is very good, only ten minutes drive from Hohhot East Station
The hotel is very smart, with smart toilets and curtains, and I am very satisfied with the bathroom with wet and dry separation!
➡️How to get around in Hohhot city area?
Ride a shared electric scooter🛵! There are several companies! It can seat two people, highly recommended!
If it's too far, you can take a taxi, it's very convenient and not expensive in Hohhot~
In the end, I want to say! Although there are not many things to play with in Hohhot, there were not many tourists during Qingming, it was not crowded and very quiet, and I also took some nice photos, personally, I am quite satisfied~

Visiting Hohhot, I was deeply moved by the religious ceremony at the Dazhao Wuliang Temple
It's like a paradise on earth!
Hohhot is definitely worth bringing family and friends to check in. It's too beautiful!
When you come to Hohhot, head straight for the two temples across the street.
The Xiaozhao (Xilitu Zhao) is known for its tranquility and exquisiteness, with more Tibetan-style Lama pagodas inside. Entering around 4 pm, I just caught the temple ceremony, which was already very impressive.
The Dazhao (Dazhao Wuliang Temple) is superior as a royal (Kangxi) family temple, with a higher status and larger scale. It houses the largest existing silver Tibetan Buddhist statue and the Thousand-Handed Guanyin statue is also extraordinary. I was equally fortunate to catch the 9:30 am ceremony. Although I couldn't understand the content, the experience was still overwhelming.
Perhaps it's because it's the first time for a Han Chinese person to visit a Tibetan temple, but seeing the richly colored and gorgeous prayer flags, the exquisite and beautiful Thangka paintings, the mysterious texts and symbols, and the devout prostrations of the faithful, one can feel the power of religious culture and faith.
It's worth mentioning that the Naichun Temple within the Dazhao should be entered with caution; it seems to enshrine a deity similar to Yama in Tibetan Buddhism, with many skull patterns in the inner sanctuary, which can be a bit frightening when seen suddenly. The other halls are all worth a detailed look. If you get tired, you can find a cool corner to sit in, watch the flocks of pigeons and swallows chirping on the temple roof, see the golden light shining from the temple roof under the blue sky and sunlight, and deeply appreciate the unique scent of incense in the temple and the inner peace it brings.

Da Zhao Temple | A Pure Land in the Frontier, Only When You Come Will You Realize How Stunning It Is!
⭐️ Da Zhao Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery, also known as "Wuliang Temple" or "Silver Buddha Temple", built in 1580 AD.
⭐️ Da Zhao Temple integrates elements of Han, Tibetan, and Mongolian Buddhism. The Great Zhao Shakyamuni Pagodas and the fluttering prayer flags around the temple perimeter resonate with the architectural features of Han-style temples and the decorations of Suru ingots on the glazed tiles.
❤️ The "Three Wonders" of Da Zhao Temple: Silver Buddha, Dragon Carvings, Wall Paintings ❤️
Silver Buddha, that is, the Sakyamuni statue enshrined in the Buddha hall, is cast from 30,000 taels of pure silver, over 400 years old, sitting at 2.55 meters tall, and is one of the largest existing silver Buddhas in China.
Dragon Carvings: Refers to the two vividly shaped golden coiled dragons in front of the Silver Buddha's seat, about 10 meters high, each carved on a towering column. Looking up from below, the dragons soar and dance with claws and teeth bared.
Wall Paintings: The content is mainly Buddhist figures and stories, depicting various scenes of heaven, earth, and hell, with rich themes and vivid images. The murals are painted with natural stone colors and, despite hundreds of years, still retain their bright colors.
🌞 Da Zhao Temple is not just a temple, but also a museum 🌞
It houses treasures such as the Ming Xuande furnace, the dragon and phoenix peacock umbrella used by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing dynasty, the eight pearl and treasure palace lanterns from the imperial palace during Emperor Kangxi's reign, Emperor Kangxi's "Longevity Dragon Plaque", the gilded God of Wealth bestowed by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty, and Thangkas from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
🌼Tips:
Opening hours: 08:30-17:30 (Summer) 09:00-17:00 (Winter)
Tickets: 35 yuan (adult), 17 yuan (child)
Guided tours are available.

Check in at Wutai Mountain Spring and Da Zhao Wuliang Temple in Inner Mongolia
💧Wutai Mountain Spring💦 Check in ✔️ Da Zhao Wuliang Temple
📍In front of Da Zhao Street, Yuquan District, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia
Da Zhao Temple's religious status is equivalent to Beijing's Yonghe Temple
It belongs to the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism and is majestic
Its historical status is equivalent to Beijing's Tanzhe Temple
There is a saying that 'Da Zhao Temple was there before Hohhot was established.'
In the sixth year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, the leader of the Mongolian tribes was conferred the title of Shunyi King
He and his wife, Sanniangzi, presided over the construction of Hongci Temple and Guihua City
Hongci Temple is now Da Zhao Temple, and Guihua City is the old city of Hohhot
After completion, it welcomed the third Dalai Lama of Tibet to Da Zhao
He presided over the consecration ceremony of the Silver Buddha, which became famous all over the world
It is both a Buddhist holy place and a tourist attraction
The artworks and decorations of Da Zhao Temple are extremely rich:
1️⃣ There is a Silver Buddha: a Shakyamuni Buddha cast from thirty thousand taels of pure silver
2️⃣ There are dragon carvings: golden double dragons playing with a pearl in front of the Silver Buddha
3️⃣ There are murals: with grand narrative scenes and bright colors
4️⃣ There are the Eight Stupas of Shakyamuni: symbolizing the eight virtues of Shakyamuni Buddha
5️⃣ There are colorful prayer flags: ascending fortunes, exquisitely beautiful
6️⃣ There is the Number One Spring on the Nine Sides: the legend of Kangxi's 'Imperial Horse Digging Spring'
Outside the temple, you can rent a set of Mongolian clothing to take photos with the Eight Stupas of Shakyamuni
From the second floor of the KFC outside the temple, you can overlook the night view of Da Zhao Square
You can stroll through the Old Street with your male/female companion and eat mutton Shaomai
'Spring lags behind the frontier, the night cold is thick, in May the flying sand obscures the desert sky.
The old temple is deeply green with fragrant grass, the new street is noisy with the red of blooming peach trees.'

Dazhao Wuliang Temple | A Great Temple to Visit in Hohhot (With Guide)
Dazhao Wuliang Temple is really a great place to visit! Not only is it a holy Buddhist site, but it's also an art paradise, attracting many people to come for photos and check-ins. Follow my camera and let's explore this treasure of a temple together!
🌟 About the Attraction
Dazhao Temple belongs to the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism (also known as the Yellow Sect), and it is the earliest Lamaist temple built in Hohhot.
The architecture adopts the style of Han Chinese temples, with main structures including the mountain gate, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Buddha hall, etc. The scripture hall and the Buddha hall are connected, collectively referred to as the 'Grand Hall'.

Praying at the Dazhao Temple
The day I first arrived at the Dazhao Temple, it was snowing lightly, which was completely different from my revisit on a sunny day with a blue sky. Fortunately, during my short trip to Qingcheng, I had the opportunity to appreciate this famous ancient temple outside the Great Wall from close range and from multiple angles, and different psychological experiences lingered in my mind. Especially when I visited the Wuliang Temple of the Dazhao Temple again on a day when the sky was clear, listening to the crisp metallic sound of the bells hanging at the corners of the tower, and various colorful prayer flags fluttering with the wind outside the Great Wall, as the saying goes: sincerity is spiritual. When I prostrated myself in front of the huge Buddha statue, the wind outside the Great Wall blew away the gloom in my heart, cleansing and purifying my eyes and soul, and I felt an unprecedented relaxation and joy.

Dazhao Temple · The brilliance on the Great Gobi
Dazhao Temple is the largest temple in Hohhot. Dazhao, called 'Yike Zhao' means 'big temple', where 'Zhao' is Tibetan for 'temple', is a Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism, built in 1580, mainly to promote the Yellow Religion, and the earliest temple built in Hohhot. The temple is famous for its silver Buddha, murals, and dragon carvings. Whether it's architecture, murals, or Buddha statues, they are all worth savoring.
Outside Dazhao Temple, the old street is lined with shops, and the night view is very charming, attracting many travel photographers. In the cool autumn night, strolling in it has a unique charm.

The Dazhao Temple in Hohhot
The Dazhao Temple was presided over by Altan Khan, the leader of the Tumote tribe in the Ming Dynasty, in the seventh year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. It is a large Tibetan Buddhist temple and belongs to the Gelug sect (Yellow Sect). The word 'Zhao' in Dazhao Temple means temple in Tibetan, and its original Chinese name was 'Hongci Temple', which was later changed to 'Wuliang Temple'. Because there is a silver Buddha enshrined in the temple, that is, the statue of Sakyamuni enshrined in the Buddha Hall, made by Nepalese craftsmen, the whole body is cast from 30,000 taels of pure silver, so Dazhao Temple is also called 'Silver Buddha Temple'.
The treasures of the Dazhao Temple are extremely rich, and the silver Buddha, dragon carvings, and murals have become the 'three unique features' of the Dazhao Temple, which are historical relics of the Ming Dynasty. As a tourist, I feel that the Dazhao Temple is a great place to worship Buddha. The halls are magnificent and gorgeous, the Buddha statues and Thangka murals are exquisite, the entire temple is not commercialized, and you can truly feel the charm of Tibetan Buddhism and cleanse your soul in the Sanskrit.
