Huizhou travel and food recommendations
1. Shuangyue Bay
【Introduction to the scenic spot】
Shuangyue Bay is composed of two crescent-shaped bays adjacent to Daya Bay and Honghai Bay. The two crescent-shaped bays are like hooks, so it is named "Shuangyue Bay". There is a long and narrow sand dune in the middle of Shuangyue Bay, which connects to the Nianping Peninsula. To the east of the long and narrow sand dunes, Rainbow Bay is as flat as a mirror. When the wind blows, ripples appear. At the end of the bay, there are several small islands lying across the sea. The red sun rises from here every day. To the west, Daya Bay has rough waves, clear blue water and white beaches, making it a natural bathing beach.
There is a big star mountain on the long and narrow sand dunes. Visitors can climb to the top of Daxing Mountain and have a panoramic view of the magnificent scenery of Shuangyue Bay from the observation deck. If you have enough time and observe patiently, you can also enjoy the different colors of the sea surface in Shuangyue Bay throughout the day.
There is a Daxingshan Fort on Daxingshan Mountain, which is one of the best preserved forts in Pinghai. In order to resist foreign invasion, in the 57th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1718), Yang Lin, the Governor-General of Guangdong and Guangxi, and others invested in building a fort here and turned it into a military fortress. The fort is built of granite, with a circumference of 295 meters, an average height of 3.5 meters, and a width of 2.55 meters. There is a stone gate in the northeast. The fort is rectangular from east to west, with trenches crisscrossing inside and walls winding like a coiled dragon, which is majestic and spectacular. Behind Daxing Mountain is Stonehenge. The coast here is full of cliffs and strange rocks along the way, which is breathtaking.
Turtle Bay is located on the southwest side of Daxing Mountain in the Gangkou Coastal Tourist Resort in Huidong County. It is the last spawning ground for sea turtles on the coastline of mainland China and the only national sea turtle nature reserve in China. From May to August every year, a large number of turtles lay eggs here, mainly green turtles. Turtle Bay has a beautiful and secluded environment. In order to protect turtles, the beach where turtles lay their eggs is not open to the public.
There is a Turtle Bay Tourist Area in Turtle Bay. The tourist area is also a marine environmental protection science education base, with three major attractions: the Science Museum, the Taming Center (Turtle Museum), and the Sea Viewing Boardwalk. The science museum has a science corridor and a specimen museum, which mainly shows the audience the ecological features of sea turtles and other marine life through pictures, specimens, science cartoons, 3D marine science movies, etc., and introduces knowledge about sea turtle evolution, migration, reproduction, scientific research, conservation and culture. The Taming Center (Sea Turtle Hall) was formerly the Sea Turtle Rescue Center, and is now a scientific research center that integrates sea turtle rescue, conservation, and education. The sea-viewing boardwalk built along the coastline is more than 600 meters long, from where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sunset into the sea. In the Turtle Bay tourist area, people can not only enjoy the beautiful sea scenery, but more importantly, they can recognize and understand the importance of protecting rare marine life.
2. Xunliao Bay
Xunliao Bay is located in the south of Pingshan Town, Huidong County and the east of Daya Bay. Xunliao Bay has a winding coastline with eight bays dotted along the mountains and the sea, and dozens of islands of varying sizes. It is famous for its "clear water, white sand, unique mountains, and beautiful rocks" and has unique coastal tourism resources. Xunliao Bay is shaped like a dragon swimming between heaven and earth. The soft, white sand on the beach has a sand content of up to 99%, and is known as the "God-given Platinum Embankment."
The Xunliao Bay Scenic Area is dotted with huge rocks, which attracted many literati and poets to leave inscriptions here, adding cultural heritage to the beautiful scenery of Xunliao. According to statistics, there are more than 30 cliff carvings in the bay area. Among them, the four large characters "日暖凤池" on Fengchi Island were carved by Fu Wei, a scholar from Pinghai City, in the second year of Emperor Xianfeng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1852). They are the oldest cliff carvings in Chahar history. The group of millstones located on the Gaopai Bay beach in Lanchong is a typical representative of the Xunliao Bay stone forest landscape. There are huge rocks piled up here, two of which weigh hundreds of tons and overlap each other. When you listen carefully in the sea and wind, you can hear a rumbling sound, so it is named "Wind and Waves Pushing the Mill".
Triangle Island in Xunliao Bay is a small island consisting of three connected hills. The island is also full of strange peaks and rocks. There are many animal stone statues that are as beautiful as nature intended, which can be called an "Animal Stone Scenery Park".
Xunliao Bay is not only blessed with unique natural resources, but also has rich cultural landscapes. The area has both traditional Hakka folk culture and unique fishing customs and habits. The local people have a very devout belief in Mazu. The Tianhou Temple, also known as the "Ama Temple", which faces Fengchi Island, was built by local fishermen to bless their relatives who went out to sea to fish to return safely. According to legend, the Mazu statue enshrined in the Ama Temple drifted from Fanhe Port to Xunliao Bay after a typhoon tide. In order to allow Mazu to protect the safety of fishermen in Fanhe and Xunliao, the Mazu statue is enshrined in Xuncha Bay half of the year and in Fanhe Port half of the year. Therefore, the Ama Temple is closed half of the year.
