Exploring Hue Citadel offers a quiet and calming experience beyond just visiting the Imperial City.
You can enjoy taking photos near the Vietnamese flagpole or find a cozy café to relax and watch life pass by. Hue is known for its royal tea—a delicious and nutritious drink made from local herbs. Sitting at a café in front of Ngan Gate, we sipped tea, chatted, and enjoyed the beautiful old architecture around us. The golden sunlight and gentle breeze made it even more enjoyable. The peaceful atmosphere and historical surroundings helped us connect with the rich history of Hue, creating a memorable experience in this tranquil city.

There is a saying that you will regret going to Hue and regret not going. I prepared it because I thought it would be perfect for taking my in-laws. I purchased transportation online, and I booked the VIP seat, which is the best seat, for a round trip of 170,000 VND = about 9,000 KRW in a 9-seater van that looked like it had just been selected. They picked me up at my hotel and dropped me off at my hotel when I went back, so it was convenient. It took about 3 hours, and they picked up guests in the middle. I left a note asking to be dropped off at Vincom Plaza Hue, so I got off at Vincom Plaza Hue and walked to the Hue Palace ticket office. It takes about 25 minutes to walk, but it wasn’t that difficult because I walked slowly while sightseeing. After seeing all of Hue Citadel, I ate, had tea, and returned to the main entrance of Vincom Plaza Hue at 5 PM. I was there 30 minutes early, but they said they arrived a little after 5 PM. If you calculate the cost of seeing Hue Citadel, it was 9,000 KRW for a round-trip pick-up vehicle + 200,000 VND (about 18,000 KRW) for the entrance fee to Hue Citadel alone = about 20,000 KRW. If you look at the Hue tour packages sold by travel agencies, they say it costs about 50,000 KRW for a vehicle + English tour guide + 1 bottle of water per person + lunch + Hue Citadel and Khai Dinh Tomb entrance fees. Although travel agency tour products are more convenient, I like to take the initiative myself~
📍Conclusion: It's also cheap and okay to buy a car ticket online, then buy an entrance ticket at the Hue Castle ticket office and tour the Hue Castle~

[Vietnam🇻🇳] Visit the ancient city known as the Kyoto of Vietnam!
Hue, the last dynasty of Vietnam🇻🇳
Hue was the capital of Vietnam in the past, prospering as a dynasty for 150 years! The ancient city of Hue, with its many historical buildings, is a place that is also called the Kyoto of Vietnam🪷
The historical buildings of Hue were the first in Vietnam to be registered as a World Heritage Site🎖️.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hue's tourist attractions are widespread, and we visited the main spots in one day🚗.
🚌Da Nang → Hue Travel time about 3 hours📍Imperial Tomb of Khai Dien🍽️Lunch📍Hue Imperial Palace📍Tien Mu Pagoda🚌Hue → Da Nang.
The schedule is like this🗓️🔍
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Hue Imperial Palace, which incorporates Chinese style, and the Khai Dien Imperial Tomb, which was influenced by French art. Even though it's the same city, Hue has its own unique features depending on the king who built it, so it's very interesting to visit 🔭
Hue also has a background as a fierce battlefield during the Vietnam War. Most of the destroyed buildings have been restored, but some still have scars that remain, which made me think about the tragedy... 🕊️.
✈️There are direct flights from Japan to Da Nang, and in addition to Hue, there is also Hoi An, which is famous for its lanterns, near Da Nang 🌜Both can be reached from Da Nang as a day trip, so it's easy to get around by using Da Nang as a base to travel around the surrounding cities◎! .⚠️ Hue was hotter than Da Nang or Hoi An and it was hard to walk around, so don't forget to stay hydrated and be careful 🫙💦.

Compared to Nha Trang in Vietnam, I have a deeper affection for this little World Heritage town
Located a two and a half hour train ride from Da Nang, Hue, the former capital of Vietnam, is home to the Hue Imperial City, An Dinh Palace, royal tombs, and more, with historical relics everywhere, thus it has been designated as a World Cultural Heritage site👏🏻

This time explore Hue City, you can going to Hue City by bus/car from Danang City, it takes about 2hours of driving. I visited the historical building and the famous attraction in Hue City: Hue Imperial Citadel.
The Imperial City of Hue was actually a walled fortress and palace belonged to the ancient city of Hue which was a capital city of the Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years date back from 1805 until 1945.
You can find the history of Vietnam especially about Nguyen Dynasty in this place. What i like the most about this place is theis insta-worthy building and the palace is modelled after the Forbidden City in Beijing. I highly recommend you to visit this place, and don’t forget to spent min 2hrs here (cz the area is so huge).

The city,
The Imperial City of Hue, also known as the Citadel, is a large complex located in Hue, Vietnam. It was once the political and cultural center of the Nguyen Dynasty, which ruled Vietnam from 1802 to 1945. Today, the Imperial City is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful architecture, rich history, and cultural significance.
The Imperial City was constructed in the early 19th century, during the reign of Emperor Gia Long. It took over 30 years to complete, with work continuing under successive rulers. The complex covers an area of 520 hectares, with walls that are 10 meters high and 21 meters thick, surrounded by a moat that is 30 meters wide. The main entrance is through the Ngo Mon Gate, which is decorated with intricate carvings and elaborate roof details.
Inside the Citadel, there are numerous buildings, including palaces, temples, and administrative offices. These structures are arranged in a series of courtyards and gardens, each with its own unique design and purpose. Some of the most notable buildings include the Thai Hoa Palace, which was used for important ceremonies and official receptions, and the Forbidden Purple City, which was the private residence of the Emperor and his family.
The architecture of the Imperial City is a blend of traditional Vietnamese and French styles, reflecting the influences of both cultures during the time of its construction. The buildings are characterized by their colorful roofs, ornate carvings, and intricate details, including dragon motifs and depictions of mythical creatures.
The Imperial City of Hue is also known for its cultural significance. It was the site of many important events in Vietnamese history, including the coronation of emperors and the signing of important treaties. The complex was heavily damaged during the Vietnam War, but many of the buildings have since been restored, making it a must-see destination for visitors to Vietnam.

What is interesting about Hue in the win
What is interesting about Hue in the winter?
If you love the cold and want to see the romantic rain of Hue, the winter from September to December will be the most beautiful time of Hue tourism.
You will be immersed in a peaceful life, blending in calm space, strolling on romantic streets, enjoying tasty dishes such as Corn juice, dried squid, etc.
Unlike other cities, the rain caused problems for your trip, but for Hue, on the contrary, the rains of Hue become the unique feature in this place, as Hue has the highest amount of rain in Vietnam.
Airplane: A one-hour flight with one of the several domestic airlines either from Ha Noi city or Hanoi will get you to Hue. It costs around 300,000VND - 1,000,000VND per leg if you fly from Ha Noi city.

Phenomenal experience
Hue is a gorgeous little city in Vietnam and the Hue Imperial City is a must see. It's a well preserved UNESCO heritage sight and its the most visited attraction in the area.
Tickets are 200k VND and well worth it. You can explore the grounds and admire the amazing architecture around. The walls are great to walk from inside and out, and a lot of the structure remains the same as it has for centuries. It's quite pretty in places too with lots of colourful flowers and green grass.
You're free to roam around or can take an additional guided tour if you wish. It's easy to get to from anywhere within the city really. Highly recommended

Half day inside Imperial city. Not many activities on the day we visited but this is definitely a beautiful place for exploring heritage architecture, Vietnamese history and culture. Rent the Ao dai or traditional Vietnamese costume, take a walk along ancient walls and immerse in historical moments.

Although of of the building was destroyed during war time, but they are trying hard to restore it. Will visit back in the future year to check it out.

The area is really big and well worth it for the price. As we are always quite interested in history, this was a great place and gave a bit of an insight about the ancient Vietnam. You should certainly plan half a day at least as the area is quite big. #wintergetaway

The clear water of Hue is Xiangjiang, which is clear and clear through the ancient city, dividing the ancient city into north and south, and also creating many elegant corners. The Imperial City was built like the Forbidden City in Beijing and was deeply influenced by Chinese aesthetics.
Hue's mountain is the Yuping Mountain where the pine trees are forested. In the morning, it is shrouded in a twilight smog, but when the weather is fine, you can see the sea on the top of the mountain. Rivers, mountains, ancient cities, and gentle people.
coming to Hue without an industrial area is like walking into an ancient picture. Vietnam now has four world cultural heritages. In addition to Halong Bay, Meishan Holy Land, and Hoi An Ancient Temple, Hue Ancient City is one of them. Because it is a cultural heritage, Hue has developed the tourism industry in recent years. There are only 300,000 people in Hue. There are also some travel agencies in the downtown area. In addition to connecting the traffic in Vietnam, it is necessary to arrange tours in Hue City. Convenience. Appreciate Hue, need a mood, and never be nervous.
The easiest way to be free and easy to do is to hire a motorcycle and tell the driver what the price and number of attractions are, so that you can decide when to visit and browse. This way, you can really contact Hue at the closest distance. Usually about 8 US dollars a day, in terms of human relations, should provide the driver's drinking water and lunch, Hue attractions are concentrated, you can slowly appreciate it everywhere.

As the ancient capital of Vietnam's three dynasties - Hue, has many popular monuments, among which the most prestigious ones, I am afraid to count the Hue Imperial City on the banks of the Xiangjiang River. The style of construction here is roughly modeled after the Forbidden City in Beijing, and it also incorporates many elements of local character and colonial architecture. In the largest Taihe Hall, there is a majesty of imperial power, which makes people feel solemn. Continue to go in, the gloomy sky, the pattering raindrops, and the grief of the imperial city. Traveling through the cloisters of history, watching the characters in the old photos, you can read the past splendid Tips of this ancient city of Hue. Tickets: 105,000 Vietnamese dong; Opening hours: 6:30-17:30 Time reference: 2 hours

"In August 2024, experience the architectural restoration of Vietnam after World War II"
#AugustGood Place2024
You can deeply experience the glorious history of the royal family in the past, and it is sad to see the buildings that were destroyed and disappeared during World War II. However, the Vietnamese government is trying its best to restore the past history and give people a new glimpse into the life of the royal family.

Vietnam, Hue * The vast Hue Imperial Palace, a World Heritage Site
Hue Imperial Palace
FH9H+9CP, Phú Hậu, Tp. Huế, Thừa Thiên Huế, Vietnam
It takes about 3 hours by car from Da Nang.
The Nguyen Dynasty, the last dynasty of Vietnam, is the core facility of the World Heritage Site "Hue Monuments".
Many buildings remain within the site surrounded by the wall, and buildings destroyed during the Vietnam War have been restored one by one to include temples, fortresses, moats, etc.
It is very large, so it will take more than 3 hours to see everything at your leisure. There is no route written, so you will feel like you are wandering around.
There is no air conditioning, so it is hot both inside and outside, so you need to take measures against heat stroke.
The palace is quite large, and I couldn't find a toilet.
It seems better to use it before entering.
The roads and parks around the citadel are full of green trees, so it is comfortable to walk.
It has a great atmosphere, so it's nice to take a commemorative photo wearing an ao dai or something.

Visiting the historic castle in Hoi An, Vietnam, was a wonderful and interesting experience. When I arrived at the place, I was captivated by the beauty of ancient architecture and the massive walls surrounding the old town. I started the tour by visiting the main gate, which marked the official start of my exploration of the historic city. I enjoyed traveling the streets and discovering old buildings, temples, and museums that reflected the history and culture of the area.
The beauty of gardens and orchards decorated with rare flowers and plants. The atmosphere was filled with tranquility and serenity, making the experience even more interesting and comfortable. In addition, I enjoyed visiting famous cultural sites such as the scoring palace, Toho Temple, and Trang T Bridge, where I learned about the history and heritage of this wonderful region. In the end, visiting the historic fortress in Hoi was a fun and informative experience, leaving me with beautiful memories and a rich knowledge of Vietnamese culture and history.

Traveling in Vietnam, Hue gave me the most surprises
After crossing the Hai Van Pass🚂 and entering the territory of Hue, it felt like stepping into an ancient Vietnam. Hue was the capital of the last two dynasties of Vietnam, the Tay Son and the Nguyen dynasties👑, hence the city is filled with a large number of relics from the 18th century onwards. An ancient city is always accompanied by an elegant environment, flavorful food, leisurely lifestyle, and long-standing crafts, making Hue a preferred destination for locals to visit ancient sites, savor the culture, and vacation⛱️. This city combines the solemnity of Beijing, the leisure of Chiang Mai, and the folk traditions of Guangzhou.
Inside the Imperial City🫅 of Hue, the entire complex is made of wooden structures, with palaces and temples mostly in bright red, while the stone city gates are in a light French-inspired yellow, giving a sense of East meets West. The architecture of the Imperial City is relatively low, and many places are in disrepair🏚️, but there is a tropical ancient feel similar to Angkor Wat, with large and small gates that invite visitors to linger. The most ornate decorations can be found at the West Great Gate, Xian Ren Gate, and the central Chang Chun Gate, where many people dressed in Ao Dai move about, and the Vietnamese like to wear traditional clothing to take wedding photos🎎 here.
The main attraction of the Imperial City is leisure. If you're tired of strolling, consider taking a break at a café☕ within the Imperial City, located in a palace pavilion by the water (which should have been the residence of the royal women). Enjoy a cold drink🍃 while watching the fish by the railing, with cool breezes blowing from the lotus pond🪷. Accustomed to the comfort of Vietnam without air conditioning, you can take a walk around the moat at dusk after leaving the Imperial City.
Hue is just too delicious! The people of Hue have unique culinary ideas that are different from other parts of Vietnam. First is the signature Hue beef noodle soup🍜Bunbo, which is finer and more robust here, with a richer broth; then there's the Hue sweet soup🍧Che, where the dessert stalls offer a variety of small ingredients in a set, and for about 30 yuan, you get 10-20 stacks of various ingredients and a large cup of ice, allowing you to mix and match freely. Without knowing the secret combinations on the first try, I sneakily watched the locals who seemed to have the delicious formula😋 down pat; the street food in Hue is also interesting, where locals use baguettes🥖 dipped in soy sauce as a staple, and I ordered salt-baked snails and stir-fried bullfrogs, which were very similar to Chinese dishes.
Along the banks of the Perfume River outside the Imperial City, it's very worthwhile to take a walk in the afternoon. Dragon head boats🐲 come and go on the river, and as night falls, floating lanterns add to the ambiance. On the southeast side, there are market stalls making traditional handicrafts like conical hats, incense, kites, and bamboo lanterns🏮; on the northeast side, near Dong Ba Market, there are crowded snack stalls🥢; on the southwest side, it's more elegant, with sculptures🗿 and fountains⛲️ lining the riverbank, gardens and art galleries by the roadside, and at night, Vietnamese people come here to enjoy the cool breeze and have picnics, and you can also rent pedal boats🦢 to tour the lake.

The most anticipated World Heritage, a guide to exploring the relics around the Imperial City of Hue
Hue, from the 17th century to the 1940s, was successively the capital of the old Nguyen, Tay Son Nguyen, and new Nguyen feudal dynasties of Vietnam, and is a famous ancient capital of three dynasties. The Perfume River flows through the city, and what seems to be an inconspicuous small city, the surviving Imperial City and the grand royal tombs by the river reveal its illustrious history as the former capital of the three Vietnamese dynasties.
Unlike other Confucian society countries, the Nguyen dynasty of Vietnam at that time was an independent dynasty recognized by the Qing dynasty, so the Imperial City of Hue could use a large amount of golden yellow glazed tiles for the roofs without any restrictions, and subtly conveyed its unique status to people through the names of 'Dai Noi', 'Imperial City', and others.
The Imperial City of Hue, as the World Heritage site I most look forward to in Vietnam, is naturally the highlight of this trip. In addition to spending a whole day visiting the inside of the Imperial City, I also strolled around the periphery of the Imperial City twice, once during the day, riding a motorcycle around the inner city, and stopping by the outer city to check in at the corner towers; once at night, walking to the Meridian Gate outside the Imperial City, experiencing the Hue under the colorful lights.
✅ Tien Mu Gate: Crossing the moat and passing through the Tien Mu Gate, you enter the outer city of the Imperial City of Hue. The Tien Mu Gate is somewhat similar to the Tiananmen Gate, only allowing entry and not exit, but it is much smaller in size and not located on the central axis of the Imperial City. However, this Tien Mu Gate is very photogenic, especially when a large number of motorcycles pass through the ancient city gate, creating a magical sense of traveling through time.
✅ Nine Dynastic Urns: After entering the backyard of the Tien Mu Gate, you can see nine large cannons, known as the Nine Dynastic Urns. Each brass cannon is five meters long and weighs about ten tons. The four cannons on the right symbolize the four seasons, while the five on the left represent metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.
✅ Flag Tower: Unlike the Forbidden City in Beijing, there is a huge flag tower at the outer city of the central axis of the Imperial City of Hue. This flag tower was built in the early 19th century and was originally used for hanging flags during celebrations. It is said that the flagpole was originally made of wood and broke several times. The current flagpole is made of reinforced concrete, divided into three sections, with a total height of 57 meters. Because the flag tower is directly opposite the Meridian Gate, this is also the best place to take pictures of the Meridian Gate at night.
✅ Meridian Gate: Apart from the mottled city walls, the biggest attraction of the outer perimeter of the Imperial City is the various city gates, of which the most important is the Meridian Gate. The Meridian Gate is the southern main gate to enter the palace, and it does look quite like a scaled-down version of the Meridian Gate of the Forbidden City, but it is indeed a lot less imposing. However, the smaller size has its own delicacy, such as the Five Phoenix Tower on the upper part, which is indeed very aesthetically pleasing.
✅ Changde Gate/Xianren Gate: The main western and eastern gates of the Imperial City, the exquisite decorative art is completely different from our city gates, especially the application of porcelain, which feels very delicate.
✅ Heping Gate/Sifang Wushi Tower: Heping Gate is the northern gate of the Imperial City, and on the northern platform of the central axis, there is also the Sifang Wushi Tower. The name of the Sifang Wushi Tower is quite meaningful, and it is also one of the tallest buildings in the Imperial City of Hue.
✅ Corner Towers: The corner towers of the Imperial City of Hue are all in the outer city. Although they are also blessed by the moat, there is no reflection, and the dark and severely damaged city towers are not worth fantasizing about like the corner towers of the Forbidden City. However, the small corner towers near the flag tower are quite interesting, feeling like the watchtowers of the Imperial Guards.

Discover Imperial Grandeur at Hue, Vietnam
Hue, the former 19 century capital of imperial Vietnam, is located a couple of hours drive from Da Nang. The vintage bright yellows and reds, the ornate colonnades and intricate roof arrangements of the imperial palace are awe-inspiring. When I visited on 19 March, the weather was swelteringly hot. Be prepared and take plenty of water along with your camera.

The Hue Imperial Palace in Vietnam's history.
The saying 'If you don't go now, you'll end up going later' doesn't really apply to me... I guess it's more like 'If you don't go, then later is the right time'.
The Hue Imperial Palace was the last royal dynasty of Vietnam, the Nguyen Dynasty's palace grounds, and it is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The scale of the Hue Imperial Palace is quite large. The halls are also splendid and well-maintained, offering plenty to see. If you plan to take your time and explore every nook and cranny, you should allocate more than 2 hours.
Since the weather is hot, essentials like a parasol, hat, and water are a must.
The street food noodles outside the castle are decent, but if you're concerned about hygiene, you might want to pass on them and just have a refreshing juice instead.

A Must Visit Hue Vietnam Timeless Beauty
It's their winter season. It's perfect to walk around the Hue Citadel. I would normally avoid tour guides as I think they are overrated and can simply search Google on the places to check but getting a private car that speaks English made me reconsider. It was so much more worthwhile and meaningful to visit places when you understand it. All thanks to VM Travel. I got their services half way of my Vietnam Adventure but they made everything perfect for me at affordable price.
Important Note: Forget diet when in Hue. Everything is delicious. 😅😋

Address - Thành phố Huế, Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam
Ambiance/Facilities - the old royal castle is located in Hue. This palace like all palaces is huge in size and has a moat around it. Even though this is Vietnam but you can see how it is heavily influenced by the Chinese culture. Spent few hours there walking around. Worth it.

An icon of the Nguyen Dynasty, Imperial City of Hue
#tripblazers
The last monarch dynasty of Vietnam is ruled by the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 - 1945. This citadel is served as the forbidden city of the Nguyen Imperial family during their reign. It was built under the order of the first Emperor Gia Long in 1803, who shifted the capital from Thang Long (Hanoi currently) to Hue, which is also the seat of the Nguyen family. The monarch consulted the geomancer on which direction should the gates and the Emperor's seat should face during the construction. There is also a moat constructed encircling the citadel to protect it against foreign invasion. This citadel has served as the seat of the monarch until Emperor Bao Dai's abdication in 1945. It suffered heavy damages due to the 2 wars in 1947 and 1968, and major restoration works are still ongoing to rebuild the citadel to its original form.
