The rice drying racks are arranged in an orderly manner on the edge of the village, surrounding the village. In September, during the rice harvest season, the layers of rice drying racks become golden barriers, which is the origin of the name of Huanggang Village. It is also said that nine years after the village was built, there was a warrior named Gang in the village, who was very powerful, and people called him "King", so the village was named "Wanggang" in Chinese, which is pronounced as "Huanggang" in Chinese. Simple stir-fried chives with eggs, local eggs fried to perfection, local chives sweet and fresh, a perfect match. The rice is fragrant and sticky. Simple yet homely, ordinary but delicious! The specialty of Dong Village, the paddy field fish, is unique. During the spring rice planting season, fish are released into the fields. The fish eat the pests in the rice, and are also fattened up, truly admirable for the wisdom of the working people. However, these paddy field fish can only be eaten during the autumn harvest season. There are also local restaurants in the village for dining at ordinary times. Sour soup beef, free-range chicken hotpot, stir-fried dishes, barbecue, and noodles are all readily available. 🏠 For accommodation, there are not many inns, but there are homestays and hotels. I stayed at the same place in 2019 and this time, because there was no other choice. When there are many tourists, even finding a place to stay can be a problem. This is also a downside of being unspoiled, as commercial facilities are not well-developed. There is no need for any admission ticket here. Parking is also completely free. There is an observation deck on the mountain where you can see the whole view of Dong Village. It's not high, but the scenery is very nice and definitely worth a climb. Go up from the first drum tower next to the road on the east side, and along the way, you will see many small holes blocked by wooden boards in the ground. Those are used by villagers to store sweet potatoes.

There is a bus to Huanggang Dong Village, but there is only one bus a day. The distance from the high-speed rail station is less than 1H by car, and the taxi fare is about 150. It's better if you drive by yourself. 2⃣️There is no ticket for the scenic spot. 3⃣️There are two or three guesthouses in the village, the conditions are general, but they are clean. 4⃣️There are not many restaurants in the village, but there are snack shops and some farmhouses. 5⃣️The viewing platform in the village is good for watching the sunset.

📍 Qiandongnan The wonders of Qiandongnan in Guizhou in my eyes include such a scene: A mountain range can string together many distinctive minority villages, some of which can be different ethnic groups in the mountain valleys. These gathering places are large or small in scale, some villages with only a few dozen households will hide in the valley or ridge of the mountain in a very quiet way, although quiet but still not lacking their own songs, costumes and ways of working, while some large-scale villages will make people who come here, in the moment of turning a bend, feel the momentum coming. Liping Huanggang Dong Village is located in a valley between the mountains, a large Dong gathering place, the full view of the Dong Village and the interspersed fields and lotus ponds make people who walk into it feel shocked.

Huanggang Village is an original Yi people. Here, not only the children wearing traditional national costumes warmly greeted us, but also the villagers wearing the national costumes to welcome us. We have seen a life completely different from the city here. Living differently, eating differently, using different things, even saying things are different, everything is fresh and interesting. z
