My route took me along the stunning South Coast and North Coast Parks, where the beauty of the coastline unfolded with every pedal stroke. The fresh sea breeze and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean were invigorating, making it a perfect backdrop for my journey. I made my way to New Paradise, a serene spot known for its picturesque landscapes and tranquility. Here, I paused to soak in the natural beauty surrounding me, capturing a few photos to remember this peaceful moment. The feeling of being one with nature while cycling through lush greenery was truly liberating. As evening approached, I headed to Dongdamen Night Market, one of Hualien’s most vibrant spots. The market was alive with the sounds of sizzling food and the chatter of locals and tourists alike. I savored the mouthwatering street food, from succulent grilled meats to sweet Taiwanese desserts. The lively atmosphere was contagious, making it the perfect end to my cycling day. Cycling solo in Hualien allowed me to connect with both nature and the local culture, providing a fulfilling sense of adventure. I left the night market with a satisfied stomach and a heart full of memories, eager to explore more of this beautiful region.

Even though I don’t usually stay in hostels as I don’t prefer to share toilets, this one was not too bad. We got the room with double decker beds and our own private toilet. It was clean too, very important. But I liked the common lounge spaces most as it looked super hip and trendy. There was even a guitar there for guests to have a hand at it. Affordable youth hostel. Very convenient location. Just across the street from Hualien Railway Station. There are many souvenir shops and motorcycle rental shops nearby. If you are not used to eating out, you can buy some simple ingredients and cook in the kitchen on the second floor. Food in Hualien is actually much cheaper than in other cities. It is also quite convenient. There are not many tourists in recent years. It feels much more lonely. Citizens can come to Hualien more often. The air feels clean and fresh.

My journey to Hualie, was no exception. I signed up for a local tour that promised to unveil the breathtaking beauty of Taroko National Park, one of the most stunning landscapes. Our group gathered early in the morning, a diverse mix of backpackers from around the globe. We exchanged names and stories over steaming cups of local tea, the excitement palpable as we loaded into our van and set off toward our first stop: the mesmerizing Qingshui Cliffs. As we approached the cliffs, the towering limestone walls rose dramatically against the blue sky, their steep faces plunging into the azure waves below. We disembarked and made our way to a viewpoint, where I was captivated by the sheer beauty of it all. Standing there, I felt like a tiny speck in a grand masterpiece painted by nature. Every so often, we caught glimpses of the North Link Line trains whizzing through the tunnels of Daqingshui and Chongde, their bright colors a stark contrast to the rugged landscape. Next, we visited the iconic Buluowan Bridge. The sight of it spanning the gorge, framed by lush greenery, made for an unforgettable photo opportunity. I snapped a few pictures, and soon the camaraderie among our group grew as we posed together, laughing and sharing our travel dreams. But my favorite part of the day was yet to come: the Jioucyu Cave. The trail leading to it wound through dense forests, and as we hiked, our guide shared stories of the indigenous tribes that once inhabited this area. The cave itself was a marvel—a natural sculpture formed by centuries of water erosion. Inside, the play of light and shadow created an ethereal atmosphere, and we took a moment to soak it all in, our voices hushed in reverence. Emerging from the cave, I noticed how the group had become a close-knit circle. We shared travel tips and stories, finding common ground in our love for exploration. We even joked about our various travel mishaps, a reminder that even the most adventurous spirits can face challenges on the road. As the day drew to a close, we made our way back to the van, the sun setting behind the cliffs, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple.
