I love outdoor hot springs 😻. Locals recommended this hot spring 🧖 to us. They go there every winter. The environment is nice 😌. I went there again in the morning and took some photos. The water is milky white ⛄. Shirahone Onsen has a history of over 600 years. It is famous for its milky white water, which looks like boiled bones, hence the name "Shirahone Onsen" ♨️. Locals say this is a natural sulfur hot spring, rich in minerals and calcium acid, which is effective for gastrointestinal diseases, neurosis, and anemia. 😆 It's perfect for winter therapy. 📍 Hot spring location: In the Hida Mountains, west of Matsumoto, Nagano, at an altitude of 1,420 meters. There are many mountains nearby, which is very relaxing. 🚌 Transportation There is no direct bus. It is recommended to transfer at Matsumoto or charter a car. 🔷 Train: Matsumoto Station 13:29 - Shinshimashima Station 13:59 🔷 Bus: Shinshimashima Station 14:10 - Shirahone Onsen 15:33 ⚠️ Note: If you miss the above bus, you will need to transfer again. ♨️ Hot spring tips: No drinks or personal items are allowed in public baths (you can take photos if there is no one else or you have the bath to yourself). ♨️Hot spring location: Shirahone Onsen is my favorite outdoor hot spring in the deep mountains of Japan, haha. 🤪 I've been to Shirahone Onsen three times. ♨️Hot spring features: In winter, the entire hot spring hotel is surrounded by thick snow. The hot spring water here is calcified and has a beautiful color. Take a taxi into the mountains, and at an altitude of 1,500 meters, you can hear the chirping of birds from the treetops of the birch trees. Quietly immerse yourself in the hydrogen sulfide hot spring and let everything slow down. This is a great place for a winter holiday. The open-air hot spring is a 100% natural hot spring. It was snowing when we went there. The birch forest in the mountains, the milky white hot spring, the snowflakes falling from the sky, and the snow-covered mountains make it a paradise on earth. ♨️Summary tips: Overall, I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful hot spring worth visiting three times.

Visited Kamikochi on October 27, 2024, by booking a direct bus ticket from Matsumoto at 5:30 AM, arriving at Kamikochi around 7:05 AM. The weather was great, beautiful, and impressive. Initially, the weather forecast predicted rain because it had been raining the days before, so I was prepared for that. However, on the actual day, it didn't rain, the sky was clear, and the sun was shining. It was really beautiful. Around 10:00 AM, it started to get crowded. An important note is that you have to take your trash with you as it's hard to find a place to dispose of it, and there is a 100 yen fee to use the restroom.

[Four] All places are very clean and comfortable, you can walk barefoot anywhere in the house as soon as you enter the door; [Five] There are coin-operated washing machines and dryers. [Six] The location is good, and it is convenient to buy, eat, and play. There should be no more perfect homestay than this one. Everything in the photos can be used, such as ovens, microwave ovens, coffee machines, pots and pans, and even rice cookers; and they are all very delicate. The landlord (about 70 years old) is very enthusiastic and considerate, and he is very up-to-date. He has a very useful translator, and there is no barrier to communication with us. He is very careful to introduce the homestay for fear that we don't know, hahaha. The price is not expensive, only 330 per night. This detached house has a total of 3 rooms, two upstairs and one downstairs. I guess it should be the largest shopping center in Matsumoto Castle. We stepped into Kamikochi, known as the Japanese Alps, and stood in this quiet valley looking at the distant mountains, which seemed to be covered with golden glory under the sunlight. There are several ways to get there. You can take the Willer night bus from Tokyo or Nagano directly to Kamikochi. Alternatively, you can stay in Takayama and take the Nohi bus to Hirayu no Onsen, then transfer to another bus heading to Kamikochi. If you take the Nohi bus, it will stop at several locations before reaching the final stop, which is the visitor center, allowing you to take short walks and capture photos along the way. Kamikochi is especially beautiful in late October, so be sure to check the forecast to visit during the peak Koyo (autumn foliage) season. If time allows, I'd love to stay overnight to fully soak in the atmosphere.

The natural scenery here is amazing, especially in autumn, when the colorful leaves and clear rivers complement each other, making people forget to leave. Early in the morning, we set off from Matsumoto and took the bus to Kamikochi. The scenery along the way is picturesque, with mountains and rivers intertwining, making people feel happy. After arriving at Kamikochi, the first thing that catches our eyes is the majestic Mount Hotaka. The towering peaks look particularly spectacular against the blue sky. We chose to hike along the trail along the river, admiring the clear Azusa River along the way. The water is like a mirror, reflecting the surrounding mountain scenery. As we walked, we came to the famous Kappa Bridge. This ancient wooden bridge is the best place to take pictures of the beautiful scenery of Kamikochi. Standing on the bridge, surrounded by mountain scenery and autumn colors, I couldn't help but pick up my camera and capture the beauty of this moment. At lunch, we tasted fresh mountain vegetables and local specialty soba noodles at a local small restaurant. They were delicious and left us unforgettable. After dinner, we continued exploring and headed to Taisho Pond, where the water shines like sapphire and the surrounding red leaves are reflected in the water, making it feel like a fairyland on earth. You can feel the charm of nature in every corner of Kamikochi. Whether it is the magnificent mountain scenery or the quiet lake, I am deeply intoxicated. This trip to Kamikochi not only allowed me to appreciate the beautiful scenery, but also made me feel the power and tranquility of nature.

Xiaoli Shiyu, this name sounds full of poetry and stories, it is quietly located by the river, as if it is a witness to the perfect combination of nature and humanities. Walking in it, every step is stepping on the echo of the years, feeling the precipitation of history and modern comfort. From JR Matsuyama Station or Iyo Railway Matsuyama City Station, take the city tram for about 10 minutes and get off at Okaido Station. From there, it is about a 5-minute walk to the ropeway station. Visitors can choose to take the ropeway or the single-seat chairlift to the castle. The ropeway takes about 3 minutes, and the chairlift takes about 6 minutes. For those who enjoy walking, Matsuyama Castle also offers several hiking trails, each taking about 20 to 30 minutes. 💰Cost: The entrance fee for Matsuyama Castle is 520 yen for adults and 160 yen for children. #100WaysOfTravel It was a last minute plan to visit Kamikochi. We boarded the train in Tokyo and travelled all the way to Matsumoto only to find out that the bus tickets to Kamikochi were sold out. It was our mistake for not planning well in advance. The timing clashed with Japan's Golden Week public holiday. Our only option was to stroll around Matsumoto City and visit Matsumoto Castle. I started my adventure at Taisho Pond Station, where the serene Taisho Pond itself greeted me with its mirror-like surface reflecting the majestic Hotaka Mountain Range. The early morning mist added a magical touch to the scenery, making it a photographer's paradise. From Taisho Pond Station, I embarked on a picturesque walk towards Kappa Bridge. The trail was well-marked and surrounded by lush greenery, with the sound of the Azusa River accompanying me throughout the hike. The air was crisp and refreshing, and the occasional sighting of wildlife like Japanese macaques and mountain birds added to the charm of the journey. As I approached Kappa Bridge, I was greeted by breathtaking views of the Azusa River flowing beneath the iconic wooden bridge, framed by towering peaks and dense forests. It was a perfect spot to pause, take in the natural beauty, and snap some photos to capture the essence of Kamikochi. For those planning a trip to Kamikochi, starting from Taisho Pond Station and walking to Kappa Bridge is a must-do.
